The days grew quieter. But the silence wasn’t peaceful.
It was heavy. Watchful.
Aria felt it constantly — Dominic’s gaze following her every move.
Not just at the penthouse.
Everywhere.
Every meeting. Every gala.
Even when she walked through the city with Luca as her escort, she knew Dominic was watching.
That night, she confronted him.
She found him in the rooftop garden — their private sanctuary. But tonight, it felt like a gilded cage.
“Are you going to follow me everywhere now?” she asked softly.
Dominic didn’t turn. His voice was calm. Too calm.
“I protect what’s mine.”
Aria stepped closer, her voice growing sharper. “You don’t trust me.”
“Trust is a fantasy, Aria.” He finally turned, his dark eyes locking on hers. “Control is real.”
Aria’s throat tightened. “You’re not protecting me anymore. You’re watching me. Like prey you’re afraid might escape.”
His smile was cold. “Because you could.”
“Is that what scares you?” she whispered. “That one day I might want freedom?”
He closed the distance in a flash, gripping her chin hard, forcing her eyes to meet his.
“I don’t fear your freedom, Aria. I fear my own reaction to it.”
Her breath caught.
“You think I wouldn’t destroy this entire world if you ever tried to leave me?” Dominic’s voice trembled — not from anger, but from the overwhelming weight of his obsession. “I would burn everything. Everyone. Including you.”
Tears welled in her eyes. But not from fear. From the terrifying truth of it.
> She loved him too much to run.
But she was beginning to understand the price of that love.
Aria whispered, “This isn’t love anymore, Dominic. It’s a cage.”
His voice broke. “No, Aria. It’s our cage. And we both chose it.”
The wind howled around them. But neither moved. Neither backed down.
They stood frozen — two lovers trapped in a prison of their own making.
Neither willing to leave.
Both terrified of what would happen if they did.
Later — Alone
Aria lay awake in the grand master bedroom, Dominic’s arm heavy across her waist, anchoring her even in his sleep.
Her heart pounded as one thought repeated in her
mind:
> There is no escape.
And yet…
> She didn’t want one.
