Dominic lay next to her, one arm possessively draped across her waist, his breathing deep and slow. But Aria couldn’t move. Not because he held her—but because the cage was now inside her.

Dressed in black slacks and a crisp shirt, Dominic stood at the end of the dining table, scrolling through something on his tablet. His voice was calm, business-like.
“You’re not to leave the penthouse today.”
Aria looked up from her untouched plate. “Why?”
“There’s a situation I’m handling. I don’t want you involved.”
She swallowed her irritation. “You don’t even tell me what’s happening anymore.”
“I tell you what you need to know.” He didn’t look up. “And what you need is to obey.”
Aria stood. Her voice wavered, but she didn’t back down.
“I gave you my body last night. I gave you everything, Dominic. Doesn’t that earn me a little truth?”
Finally, he looked at her.
There was a flicker of something in his gaze—conflict, maybe, or regret. But it disappeared as quickly as it came.
“You gave me what was already mine.”
The words landed like a slap. Aria’s breath hitched, but she didn’t cry. Not this time.
She spent the day alone.
But that night, as she lay in bed with the lights off, she realized something had changed.

In her.
She no longer felt like she was being held captive.
She had stopped fighting.
