.Nikolai.
"By the end of this week, you will be a married woman, Evangeline," I whispered on her lips.
Her eyes went wide and all the color drained from her face. "No..."
She stopped struggling, her body went completely still. A beautiful little crinkle appeared between her brows, she was confused and she seemed a little scared. "What do you mean?" she asked.
I gripped her wrists tighter. "You'll know soon, Angel."
"No, tell me now!" she demanded.
"Kiss me back and I will."
She shook her head. "Tell me first maybe then I will kiss you."
"I don't negotiate with little girls."
"Then I'm not going to kiss you back."
"Or I could just forcefully take what I want," I wasn't planning on doing something like that to her, I just enjoyed unnerving her.
She scowled, trying to fight me off her. "You wouldn't!"
"I'm not the man you want to mess with, Angel. I'm downright cruel and I've never pretended otherwise."
"You may be cruel but I know you can't hurt me, I know you won't hurt me, so, threaten me all you want, I don't care. They are nothing but empty threats."
I breathed out and let go of her wrists. I sat up, my knees resting on either side of her waist on the bed, her body caged between my legs. This is quite perfect, I loved how helpless she looked underneath me. "You're fucking infuriating."
"Tell me what you mean by that. I don't want to get married, Nikolai. I'm just eighteen," she looked like a lamb facing off a butcher.
I wanted to tell her what I meant by that. Fuck, I wanted to write my name on her forehead to make her understand what I want. But it's better to just fucking let it go right now. She won't be able to handle it.
She looked up at me, innocence dripping from her soft features, her long dark hair sprawled all across the white sheets, the sight made my blood burn hotter. Every time my eyes met with hers, there was only one thought that ran through my mind that this girl... is fucking mine.
I placed my finger on her clavicle bone right beneath her neck, her eyes squinted as she tried to understand what I was doing.
I slowly moved my finger on her smooth skin. She trembled, and her breath hitched. She scowled as she realized that she was unable to contain her reaction to my touch.
I slowly wrote an N first, she could feel it, she could feel the pattern I was drawing on her skin.
"N..." she whispered and I gave her a half-smile.
"I..."
"K..."
"O..."
The realization dawned on her face, her lips curved into a slight smile that she tried hard to cover up by biting on her lower lip.
With my thumb, I gently pulled her lip out from under her teeth. Dipping my head, I took her lower lip between my teeth instead, pulling at it but as I was about to kiss her once again, her eyes shot open and she bit down on my lip hard.
This little-
She pushed me back, letting go of my lip. "No, answer my question first!"
I let out a dry breath, completely getting off her and standing at the edge of the bed. She sat up and smoothed her hair before rubbing her reddened wrists that were in my hold.
She was so fucking stubborn that it pissed me off. I ran a hand through my hair frustratedly and then glanced back at her, remembering my conversation with Ignacio earlier. The best way to answer her question is to fucking avoid it.
"What did Ignacio want from you?"
She looked taken aback by my sudden question about Ignacio, she furrowed her eyebrows before she shifted in her seat, clearly uncomfortable by the conversation that came out of nowhere. "Why would you ask that?"
"Answer me."
She lifted a shoulder. "I told you he kept asking for a key..."
"And?"
She gave her head a gentle shake. "And nothing..."
I raised an eyebrow. "So, nothing else happened. Something that might help me understand the real reason behind your kidnapping."
She thought for a while, I crossed my arms as I looked down at her, waiting for her to tell me something.
"Well, they once took me somewhere. It was like an underground tunnel or something, much like the one you have under your garden shed," saying that, she looked up at me and I gestured for her to continue." I don't know where it is, they blindfolded me before taking me out of the cell, I was blindfolded throughout the car ride"
"So, you didn't see anything?"
"Leo... Mark Leopold, our butler, he was there. And in that long tunnel, there were doors." she sighed. "I don't remember much, Nikolai" she looked as if she'd cry any second now.
I sat down beside her on the bed, grabbed her arm, and pulled her over my lap. She curled into me, and suddenly she looked nothing like the fiery little Evangeline I have grown used to. This Evangeline reminded me of the one, that came to my house after her parents died, scared and traumatized.
I didn't fucking like that.
She rested the side of her head against my chest, and her arms went behind my back, clutching my shirt as if her life depended on it.
"He scanned my face into a weird device that I had never seen before and it somehow opened the door. I have no idea how it happened. He said that my dad had built it and I was somehow a key..."
"Hmm..."
"I have never seen anything like it before..."
"I know, Angel..." I whispered to her.
"Then, we walked further in and there was another door. It needed a key, a real key. he thought I had it, but I don't have anything. He thought that my dad must've given it to me, I didn't even know that dad worked with you, that my dad worked in this world. I didn't know anything."
I slowly caressed her arm up and down with my knuckles, I had never been this gentle with anything in my life. "What happened then?"
"Nothing, he turned crazy. Leo tried to tell him that my dad would never tell me anything related to his work. He got so mad, Nikolai. I didn't even know what I was doing wrong. He hurt me so much after that, I felt like I would die, that's when he decided to use me against you. He told me that you were looking for me and that he was going to use me to destroy you."
I breathed out a laugh. "I guess, his plan failed"
"I guess..." she whispered. "What if it didn't fail?"
"No one messes with Nikolai Costello and gets away with it, Angel"
She soon fell asleep in my arms after that, I didn't notice until later that she was crying. As I laid her back down on her bed, I swiped at the tears at the corners of her eyes.
She makes me do shit I shouldn't be fucking doing.
My phone vibrated in my pocket and I picked it up. Evangeline stirred in her sleep and then grabbed my hand which was slightly caressing her cheek. She opened her eyes and gazed at me as I talked to Scott. "Where are you?" I asked Scott, my thumb stroking her skin as she held onto my hand tighter. "I need to be at the warehouse, now. I don't care if you're in a fucking threesome, get your ass here right now." Evangeline frowned and glanced at the wall clock before setting her eyes back on me. I hung up, putting my phone back in my pocket.
"Where are you going?" she asked with furrowed eyebrows.
"Warehouse," I answered, raising her hand to my mouth and pressing a kiss over it.
"At this hour, Nikolai? You need to rest, do you even sleep?" she asked, a look of incredulity crossing her face.
I leaned in and placed a quick kiss on her throat. "There's no rest for the wicked, Angel."
She pursed her lips, disappointed by my answer. "For how long will you be gone?"
"I have no idea, but I will let you know the second I'll be back."
She nodded. "I miss our gym sessions."
I laughed. "I thought you hated the gym."
She shrugged. "I did but I think I kinda like it now. It makes me feel powerful."
"Does it now?"
"Yes..."
"We will box tomorrow morning, alright."
She smiled. "I'd like that"
I got up and I saw Scott calling me again. "Gotta go, baby girl."
"Nikolai?"
"Hmm?"
"Was it Ignacio who murdered my parents?"
I looked down at her for a few seconds. Not knowing how to answer her question, I pressed a kiss on her forehead. "Good night, Evangeline..."
I walked out of her bedroom and went to my study to get my stuff. I had to go back to the warehouse. Torture the location of those tunnels straight out of Ignacio, so, I could finally put all that drama with Elijah Bolton behind me.
Elijah was a pain in the ass when he was alive and even dead he is still the most annoying motherfucker I had to deal with. I have no fucking idea, how someone like Elijah Bolton can father a kid like Evangeline. That fucker was up to something, something big and I'm not going to rest until I find out what it was.
In my twisted, fucked up mind, I wished that he was alive, so, I could fuck his daughter right in front of him and make him watch as she screams my name again and again. Wouldn't that be the best fucking revenge?
Special Agent Langston from the FBI sat in front of me, puffing on a cigar made from the rarest tobacco money could buy. I needed something from this bastard, so I had to play the part of a business associate, even though, in reality, Langston was a lowlife, a hypocrite who flaunted the law while constantly skirting around it.
I'd laid out what I needed him to do, but instead of just doing his damn job, he had the audacity to dig for more information. His frown deepened as he asked, "You want me to raid your own wedding?"
I leaned back in my chair, rolling the cigar between my fingers. The agitation rolling off me was almost palpable. If I didn't need him so badly, he'd already be bleeding out on the floor. "What's so hard to understand?"
He shrugged nonchalantly, a smug edge to his voice. "It's a huge risk. Lots of powerful men will be there, not to mention it's YOUR wedding."
My patience was fraying, each second with this asshole making me angrier. "I thought you'd be thrilled. This could get you that Medal of Valor or whatever they hand out."
Langston let out a bitter laugh. "And it'll also earn me the wrath of a dozen pissed-off crime lords. I have a family, Don Niko."
I blew out a cloud of smoke, irritation simmering. "They'll get over it. Every one of those bastards has dirt on their hands. They'll think twice before messing with the bureau. And as for your family, remember, you don't want to be on my bad side, Langston."
Langston gave a stiff nod, still clearly unimpressed. "Is there anyone in particular you want me to target or eliminate?"
I met his gaze with icy resolve. "Just make sure the father of the bride never sees another sunrise."
In our world, a contract becomes null if either party is taken out.
The infamous Paul Russell's death wouldn't just be a footnote; it'd be a statement. And I think the world would be better off without him.
