I seethed as I flung open the car door, storming out with a such force that the door slammed shut behind me. The men immediately noticed my rage and tensed, readying themselves for a fight. I was pissed off!
I could hear Enzo calling me from behind but Dante-his own brother-pressed a hand to his chest, pushing him back, "What did you do?" he turned to me, "Boss, what did he do?"
I glared at Enzo and then shook my head, "It's alright, Dante, let him go"
Dante stepped out of his way and Enzo followed me into the building. I stepped into a different elevator to get to my floor, I really didn't want to be in such a small space with him right now because I might commit murder.
With a ding, the elevator doors slid open and I walked to my penthouse suite. I swiped the key; entered my apartment and I was about to close the door, Enzo stuck his foot between the door.
I glared at his foot and raised an eyebrow, "What?"
"I was worried."
I pursed my lips as irritation gnawed at my skin. "You were worried because you think I couldn't handle him on my own. Well, for your information, Enzo, I have been handling Nikolai Costello on my own since I was eighteen. I didn't need anyone then and I don't need anyone now. Stop questioning my authority, it's time you realize that I'm the one who calls the shot after Uncle Luca, not you!"
He nodded, swallowing thickly, "I understand that, but there were three of them. You were alone."
I threw my hand in the air frustratedly, "I don't care! I told you to stay in the car which means, you fucking stay in the car! You disobeyed a direct order from me!"
"I didn't mean to "
"Yeah, well, you did."
He nodded, slumping his shoulder, "I'm ready to take any punishment."
I lifted a shoulder, "I don't have to give you a punishment, you gave yourself one when you showed your face to Nikolai Costello. He won't kill me, I know that, but he will gladly kill the boyfriend of his wife." He gave his head a shake, "I'm not afraid of him, I'm afraid of you-"
I cut him off, "Bullshit! If you were afraid of me, you wouldn't have done what you did. Now enjoy being Nikolai's first target."
"You are not his wife anymore!"
I gave him a sarcastic look, "Aren't I? I mean, if I wasn't why would I be here getting a divorce?"
My condescending tone was enough to shut him up. He removed his shoe from between the door and stood straight before me, "I'll try my very best follow your orders. I'll try to keep our personal life out of our business."
"There's no personal life between us, it's just business because one more mistake and I'll shoot you without a second thought."
"Got it."
I slammed the door shut in his face and ran my hand through my hair. I blew out a breath and walked to the window looking up and down, checking the buildings and the sides in front of us. I drew the curtains and went to the kitchen.
I made microwave popcorn and poured myself a glass of red wine. I checked my cell phone to see if there were any calls and texts from an unknown number or anyone.
There was only one person I really wanted to call. Bianca Costello, gosh, I have missed her so much in the last year.
I dialed Dante's number and he picked up after a single ring, "Do you need anything?"
"A number, I want you to get me the number of Bianca Costello."
"Bianca Costello?"
"Yes, she is Nikolai's cousin. I want you to find out her number and her address."
"Yes, boss."
I hung up and threw the phone beside me on the couch. I took off my heels and propped my legs up on the couch, folding them underneath myself.
I lazily plopped a popcorn into my mouth, mindlessly watching some Tom Cruise movie. I laughed a few times at how unrealistic the fights in the movie were. Now I get Scott.
I hadn't slept in thirty-six hours and my eyes started to close of their own accord. I dropped my head over the armrest of the couch and closed my eyes, letting the sleep take over me.
I woke up with a start and immediately looked around my suite. The TV was still playing, the movie had ended a long time ago, and the popcorn and wine were still placed before me on the coffee table untouched.
I sat up, letting my feet drop to the ground, and tucked my hair behind my ears. I got up and turned the TV off. I realized that I had slept through the whole day as I watched the night sky.
I grabbed the bowl of popcorn and the glass of wine and went to the kitchen. I put it on the kitchen counter and came back outside because I was too lazy to do anything right now. I didn't want to do the dishes, I think I'll hire someone soon.
Then I heard something and I stilled, I got rooted to my spot. My eyes darted all around the spacious living room. The sound was little, like a slight jingle of the keys but it was enough to alert all of my senses. 1 There goes any hope of getting a good night's sleep.
Then I noticed a shadow from behind one of the walls, I knew, I just knew it, it was him. I didn't expect him to retaliate so soon, I thought he'd take a day or two to concoct a plan on how to take me down. He wouldn't let me go so easily, he won't give me a divorce without getting his revenge. This is Nikolai we are talking about, he wouldn't have let his own mother get away with something like this. I bruised his ego and now he won't rest until he bruises not just my ego but my whole body.
I lazily moved to my bedroom, acting all nonchalant as if I didn't notice if anyone was in the apartment. I smirked as I saw a vase turned over, he really wasn't being discreet about breaking into my apartment. I wondered how it pulled it off. This building was crawling with our men from top to the bottom, how did he get inside, undetected and how did he know which suite to break in? There were almost five penthouse suites in this building.
I deliberately turned the light off, letting my dearest husband think that I didn't notice him at all.
I could hear footsteps, getting closer and closer. So, I decided to have a little fun with him.
I delicately slipped the arms of my blazer from my shoulders, feeling the intensity of his gaze trailing down my back as I let it fall to the ground. Taking my time, I slowly slid my shirt up and off my body, relishing the pleasure of feeling his eyes watching my every move.
I unbuttoned my pants, letting them glide gracefully down to the floor, revealing my bare skin.
I slowly undid my bra, savoring every sweet second. I delicately grasped it between my forefinger and thumb and let it gracefully fall to the floor, my heart beating faster with each passing moment.
I slowly hooked my fingers into the waistband of my underwear, teasingly holding it for a few minutes before sensually letting it slide down my legs, aware of his eyes tracing over the back of my body.
I swayed into the closet and saw that all of my clothes were now hanging neatly in them. I grabbed a white lace plunge slip and wore it over my naked body with matching underwear.
The second I stepped out of the closet, someone grabbed my neck from behind and slammed my body into a hard, warm body.
A sense of familiarity washed over me, I knew that body, I knew every single dent and curve of that hard body.
It belonged to my husband.
