“How did he know?” Gio asked. “He seems to know more than he let on. Where is he getting his info?” Good question.
“Yeah. As if someone is feeding him info about you. Maybe this thing about Dani, asking you to take her back home, was just the tip of the iceberg,” Celestina said.
My eyes were still pinned to the monitor even though Dani left the basement a minute ago. Francesco might not be aware of the existence of the cameras in the basement.
“He might know I installed cameras. He’s baiting Dani to ask more questions.”
“I was a little bit edgy earlier when he asked Dani. I really thought she would give up what she knows,” Papa said with a worried tone.
I stole a glance at him, not to tell more about it, but Celestina was already asking. “She knows about what?”
“It doesn’t matter, Celestina. There’s still a big threat out there,” Papa replied.
“Well, there’s always a threat, but life must go on. We just have to be extra careful,” she said confidently.
Minutes later, a sharp knock interrupted us, averting my gaze to the door. I clicked some keys to see who was behind it. I remotedly unlocked it, then shut the monitor screen to its screensaver.
Dani walked in, scowling. “That son a bitch. I should have listened to you. You were right, I’m not ready to face him. He’s a monster.”
“You okay?” I tucked strands of her hair behind her ear. She was shaken up. Her eyes were wild.
“How are you so calm? He just said that you have to be scared of the real enemy.”
“Yeah. I know. I was watching.”
Her eyes widened. “Oh. You were listening to our conversations?”
“Yeah. Does that upset you?”
“Hell no. Glad I didn’t have to relive it to tell you. So the threat. It’s real, isn’t it? How does he know?”
“We’re asking the same thing, Dani,” Papa told her, sitting in the corner.
“Oh.” Her cheeks turned red. “I didn’t notice you’re here, sir.”
Celestina smiled. “I think there’s a snake in the organization.”
“No,” Papa disagreed. “Nobody knows what he has in the organization. There could be a leak from your previous job, son.”
“I was thinking the same. That’s why I’m going to see that son of a bitch.”
“The Ruslan guy?” Dani asked.
“Yes. I’ll be leaving tomorrow morning.”
“No. You can’t.” Dani widened her eyes at me, holding my arms. “This is just a bait. He was just asking what made you tick. What if he knew we were listening and watching him? Did anyone search for a tracker or listening device on his clothes?”
“Yeah. We let him strip and gave him a new set of clothes, including his shoes,” Tristan explained.
“Right, but before you brought him to the compound. He could be tracked,” she insisted.
“She’s right, Tristan,” I backed Dani up.
“I burned his clothes.”
“Like she said, he was already tracked down.”
“So, are we doomed?” Celestina looked at me and Papa.
“We’ll figure out soon enough,” I told her, then I turned to Tristan. “No one leaves the compound. If anyone comes in, double-check the vehicle or the person. Dani will not leave the house.”
“Gee, thanks.” She rolled her eyes.
“I’m serious, Dani.” I looked at her. You may dodge bullets earlier because they were ordered not to shoot at you, but now that your father is here, he still has loyal men out there, and they come to raid the compound and rescue your father, they won’t hesitate to shoot you.”
“I have a feeling that was the case. When will the result be available?”
“Result of what?”
I turned to Celestina. “Not now, Cee. We’re still trying to figure out what Francesco’s real motive here is.”
“I feel like he’s just paid to do it. He’s chosen because of his urge to avenge his son. I think our real problem is who’s behind all these,” Dani said.
“How do you know so much about conspiracy, Enola?” Celestina was amused by Dani.
“Somehow, that’s the only thing I believe he said the entire time I spent with him. He’s trying to rebuild the trust he broke, and he was desperate for me to be on his side. But that’s not gonna happen. After what he put me through, I’m never gonna trust him again.”
“I’m sorry, honey,” Papa told her. “You’re caught up in this feud that my son created.”
“In Terzo’s defense. I’m saying this not because he’s my husband and he saved me from being tied to whomever he wanted me to marry, I realized what my brother did was wrong, but it’s all Francesco’s fault. Tomas wouldn’t be on a razor's edge if Francesco just helped his son. That’s too much for teaching someone lessons. I would have done the same thing if I were in Terzo’s situation. Things like just this need to end.”
“I don’t need you to defend your husband, but thank you.” Papa stood up. “It’s been a long day. Celestina, let’s go home.”
“I’m coming with you, sir,” Tristan said, heading to the door.
“I already briefed our men,” I told Papa. “I suggest you leave Sicily. Mr. Braddson has a holiday cottage somewhere. I feel a lot better if you and Celestina take a vacation while I’m finding out to whom Francesco’s taking orders.”
“That’s a good idea, sir, Celestina,” Dani agreed.
“You can go with them, too.”
“Me?” She raised her eyebrows. “I’m the center of this feud. I’m not going anywhere until it’s done. Capisce?”
I chuckled. “Okay, Dani. Capisce.”
“I’ll take it under advisement, son.”
“We should consider it, Papa.” When Celestina agreed, I felt tons of weight lifted off my shoulders. “You worked hard for decades, and isn’t it the reason why you retired? So you can do what you couldn’t while you were running the business?”
“We’ll talk about this tomorrow. I know your brother can handle this problem, but I don't want to leave him while things are still in chaos.”
“No offense, sir, but if you’re looking for a chaos-free, I have a feeling there’s always one to come, big or small. Take a vacation with Celestina. You deserve it.”
Once they were off to their house, I locked the door to my office and grabbed Dani by her wrist, pulled her to me, and wrapped my arm around her waist. She yelped, her eyes were wide in surprise and anticipation.
My gaze dropped to her lips and back to her eyes. “Are you still mad at me?”
“Maybe, maybe not.” Her chest rose and fell. “But you can ask me again after you kiss me.”
I broke into a smile and cupped the back of her head with my free hand. Then I leaned down to capture her waiting parted lips.
She moaned into my mouth, pressing her body against mine. The kiss went instantly passionate, deep with pure longing and desire. I traced my tongue at the seam of her lips, and she granted me access. I missed the taste of her sweet mouth and her pussy.
My cock instantly hardened, bulging, and wanting to be free. I shrugged off her blazer, dropping it on the floor while she was doing the same thing to me. I unbuttoned her blouse, and then she pulled back, causing me to alarm.
“You’re changing your mind?”
“No. Hell no.” There was a frown between her eyebrows. “Are you?”
“Fuck no. Then why did you stop?”
“I hate unbuttoning your shirt. It’s too difficult. We might have to adjust a little.” While she was talking, I was already taking off my shirt, undoing my belt, and pants. I kicked off my shoes.
She shook with a silent laugh. “Okay, Rambo.” She shyly took off her top and undid her pants. Her shoes were next to come off. We were both standing in front of each other, just in our underwear.
“So?”
I held her hand and ushered her to the couch. “Tonight, you’re sleeping in our bed, or I will sneak into your room.” I sat down and patted my lap.
She came, straddling me, cupping my face. “You’re the one who kicked me out, remember?”
“I’m sorry, beautiful, and I mean it.”
“I don’t want your apology. What I need right now is for you to make me feel good and let me forget all the things that happened outside this office. Do you think you can do that?”
“I can do better than that, mia bella.”
