                    TERZO
She changed her outfit from what she wore earlier. She wrapped her body in a trench coat, and I knew exactly what she was wearing inside.
She locked the door behind her, ran her fingers through her dark wavy hair when she noticed me watching her.
“Hey.” Her red lips spread into a smile. She had no idea this was the last time she would see me. She had no idea what she had walked into. And she risked her life with whatever lies and manipulations had been fed to her. And here I thought she was smarter than that, not selling herself to the devil.
“Hi.” I forced a smile to my lips. My smile was like I was carrying the world over my shoulder, like someone just let me down.
She stalked in my direction, dropping her bag on the bed. “Sorry, it didn’t work out.”
I sighed, crossed my legs over the other. “How would it? I killed her brother, and I just killed my father before I left.”
She wasn’t even surprised that Francesco, her partner, was dead. She pouted her lips and untied her coat, showing me the black lace gartered lingerie as she knelt before me. Her hands are on my knee. “Can I just be honest with you, Terzo?”
I looked right down into her eyes. Damn, she was good. I could barely see the darkness and lies in her eyes. “That would be great. Honesty is exactly what I need right now.”
“She’s not the right woman for you. She’s still a girl. What you need is a strong woman who can match your strength, your intelligence, and your capability, and you don’t need an obedient wife. You need a confident woman who takes control of things with goals for the future. You need a woman with extensive experience in bed.” She spread my legs and settled in between.
“I was wrong.” I set my intolerance and aggression aside. I wanted to watch her lie to my face, which gave me more reason to kill her.
“You actually broke my heart, Terzo.” She ran her palms against my inner thighs. “I thought we were gonna be together.”
“It won’t work out.” My self-control was fraying. My evil side was clawing to the surface.
Her gaze flicked up, meeting mine, losing her hope. “What made you say that? I care about you, Terzo.”
“Is that why you worked with Francesco to get to me? So you could kill my wife and make me a widower and take over her place because I broke your heart?” I was surprised I was still calm.
She gasped, eyes widening at me. Her face blanched as she swallowed hard and asked warily, “W-what are you talking about?”
“Don’t lie to my fucking face, Nicolette.” I remained seated, enjoying the glimmer of fear in her eyes. “I have the six-month call logs of Francesco’s phones, and you both talked and exchanged calls a lot. Do you think I wouldn’t find out who had been betraying me? How stupid do you think I am?”
She startled, instinctively rose to her feet. She almost stumbled with her nice black and red stilettos. She wrapped herself and tightly tied her coat back. Then she eyed her bag.
“Don’t. You’re not fast enough.” I pulled my gun behind the magazine. “You betrayed me, Nicolette. You’re the last person I suspected because our parents were friends. Your parents died thinking you would remain loyal to me and my father. And you did all that for what? Because I broke your heart? I didn’t even know you wore your heart on your sleeves when we fucked!”
“It’s not—”
“Tsk.” I shook my head. “What did he offer you? Money? The book? I let you into my house. I introduced you to my wife, whom I love so much.” Yes, I fucking loved Dani with every cell in my body. “You almost got her killed. You almost fucking got my wife killed, Nicolette.”
“I just wanted to be with you, Terzo, and I was willing to do anything to have you.” She swallowed hard and blinked away her guilt. Did she really love me? I highly doubted it.
“You wouldn’t hurt me and betray me if you truly care, but you lost your way because you were manipulated and listened to his lies.”
“He said, I deserved more than her. He said, she’s not his daughter, and if I did what he asked, he could get rid of—”
I pulled the trigger. Three bullets to her chest weren’t enough to undo the rage coursing through my body. One life, one useless life, wasn’t enough to pay for what she put my wife through. Her body dropped to the floor with a thud, blood oozing from her chest.
I called Gio. “Call the cleaner. Make sure the cops will not find a single trace of evidence back to me. The suicide note is on the table.”
My phone vibrated the moment the call ended. It came from Katie.
I answered it. “Yeah.”
“It’s done.”
I stood inside Danatti’s office in front of at least six men who played a huge role in Danatti’s family business. Since Nicolette’s parents were dead, one of her cousins would take over her position.
Her first cousin, Arturo, the possible next in line, found his gaze on the gun in my grip, which alarmed and confused him. The rest looked at my entourage. Yes, I came here to intimidate them. I came prepared in every way when they acted recklessly.
Even for a second, I did not regret pulling the trigger. Nicolette would serve as an example of her treachery and lies. I would never hurt any woman. That was my exception, but she crossed the line.
I wanted to send a message to our allies that I may not be my father, but I could be worse. I would not tolerate another mistake that could harm my people. I was done being lenient. Starting today, things have to change in the organization.
“If any of you has a plan to come after my family.” I looked at them one by one and made sure they got the message. I also didn’t come alone. I brought six men from Osmium, including Lynx and Memphis. “Think again because I won’t tolerate another betrayal like what your cousin did to me. Or you can continue with your business, but the alliance between our families is over.”
Arturo was surprised. He didn’t know what his cousin had been doing behind their backs. “What’s going on?”
“See?” I faced him. “Nicolette betrayed me and came to me as a family friend while working with my enemy behind my back. You know the punishment for her deceit. I leave you alone for now, but if you come after my family again, I will retaliate ten times fold. You will receive her body in a few hours.”
