DANI
I stared at Terzo for several seconds just to let the words ‘I love you so fucking much’ sink in my brain. It seemed terrifying and overwhelming at the same time. And Terzo telling me that he loved seemed non-existent. I mean, why me? How did he learn to love me after—”
“Dani?” I felt his thumb tracing my cheek, wiping off my tears.
“Why do you love me after I shot you?”
“Why can’t I love you after you shot me? I got shot because of me. I came to you, approached you, and you were terrified over a stranger trying to kidnap you back home. But since then, I never stopped thinking about you.”
I smiled.
“If I’m being honest, I didn’t just marry you because I wanted to protect you or because my father said so. I chose you. I made that decision, and there’s no way I’m letting you go after that.”
I sagged into his arms and cried. Terzo was literally the only family I had left, the only person I could rely on, and I trusted him with my life despite our rocky start.
“You didn’t just say that because we had sex, did you?”
He chuckled. “Sorry if it took me so long to tell you how I feel. I’ve never fallen in love before, and it scared me. I didn’t know how to handle it until I went a little too far.”
“Don’t tell me you locked me up because you fell in love with me.” I looked right into his eyes, glimmering in joy.
“No comment?” My eyes widened. “Is that all you can say? Oh, you’re dead.”
“I surrender.” He raised his hands and then offered me his wrists. “Guilty as charged. You can cuff me now, officer.”
I grabbed his hands and kissed them. “When I was voiceless, I really wanted to tell you how I felt about you, but I was scared. Deep inside, it would hurt me if you told me you didn’t feel the same way about me. I love you, Terzo.”
“I love you, sweetheart.”
We spent the night making love, drinking wine. Even though my voice was still healing, he allowed me to sip. We ordered pizza, and I ate salad. It was a great night. Then we watched a movie on Netflix.
I inhaled a sharp breath, snapping my eyes open. I realized I just fell asleep without finishing the movie.
“Hey.” I felt a grip on my shoulder. “You okay?”
“Yeah.”
“Here.” He offered me a bottle of water. “That’s for drinking wine.”
I sat up and drank it. “You’re overreacting. I don’t feel weird. I didn’t cough, so I’m good.”
“You’re stubbornness is what makes you beautiful and sexy.”
“Really? I’m beautiful and sexy?”
“Yes,” he said with confidence. “Now go back to sleep.”
“What time is it?” I checked my phone even though he already said it was four in the morning. He had a laptop open on his side. God, I hoped not another killing. “What are you working on?”
“My lazy ass wife and assistant is not much of a help.” He shot the laptop off and turned to me.
“At least I’m a good help in bed.”
He laughed. “Not gonna lie, I have no complaint on that part. I made some calls about our trip to Ireland.”
“Good.” I came to straddle his lap, cupped his head, and kissed him.
One moment we were just talking, the next thing happened was me moaning as I rode his cock and rocked against him.
My breasts were in his palms, cupping them, pinching my nipples, which made me gasp. I arched my back, pushed his head down where my flesh needed his mouth.
He moaned as he closed his lips around my breast, sucking it, nipping my nipple.
“Don’t stop. God, Terzo. Yes, baby. Don’t stop!” My hips bucked wildly as I felt I was so wet, dripping down his balls.
When he rocked his hips into me, thrusting fast and hard with an unfaltering rhythm, I came right away. Ripples of intense pleasure rushed through me as my orgasm struck me like lightning, stealing my breath away, making my vision blur.
I bit my bottom lip hard not to cry out loud, but failed as I said his name in broken gasps.
“Fuck, mia bella.” He groaned, the sound so raw and untamed as I continued clenching around him. His self-control finally snapped. His body tensed. His muscles bulged as he gripped my hips tightly. It hurt and might leave bruises later. And then he bucked and stilled.
“Fucking mine. You’re mine, Dani. You belong to me.” His cock twitched inside me before filling me with his release.
Our flight to Dublin lasted around seven hours. Then we traveled an hour from the airport to get to where my parents lived before they got killed.
I was relaxed the entire trip, but now that I was closer to the truth, I was both excited and scared. I felt anxious that I didn’t know what to expect to see and meet.
“It’s gonna be okay.” Terzo squeezed my hand. It should bring me some comfort, but I became more nervous.
“What if there’s nothing to see anymore? Do I have relatives? I know you told me that my grandparents were dead. I should have done my research before coming here.” I looked at Terzo. “I think we should go back and stay at the hotel for a night. We can drink Guinness. Right, boys?”
“Look at you.” Gio smiled. “Now you sound like an Irishwoman.”
“Half-Irish. I’m actually half-Italian.” The reality amused me.
Just a few minutes later, the SUV stopped before the iron wrought gate, and then it opened from the inside.
My heart raced fast. I gripped Terzo’s hand when it felt so much. Mine was cold and clammy.
“Sweetheart, we can come back if it’s too much.”
I squeezed my eyes shut and shook my head. “It’s fine. I wanna get this done.”
Tristan parked before the brick house that looked like a manor.
The door to my right opened. Terzo climbed out and offered his hand. Mine was trembling as I gripped his. Despite my shaky legs, I managed to get out without falling.
An old man in his seventies came and welcomed us. Terzo immediately introduced himself and told him that he was the one he had talked to over the phone.
I didn’t know he got all the information we needed, but he was really good at finding missing persons and putting connections together.
“You must be Danielle.” The old man grabbed my hand and shook it before I could react. “Ronan. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’ve been the house caretaker for the last twenty-five years.”
Twenty-five years? So, he knew the people who lived here.
He welcomed us inside. Goosebumps erupted on my skin the moment I stepped into the living room. It looked like it was well-taken care of. The dark wood furniture, including the couches and the cottage fireplace, seemed untouched, and the design dated back to the early 2000s. The velvet floral-patterned burgundy tufted chair seemed to be calling me.
I let go of Terzo’s hand and walked towards it. I ran my fingers over what felt like a familiar chair.
“There was a dark leather tufted chair similar to this. It’s in his office.” I took the cushion that matched the chair and sat down. “Why can’t I remember this?”
“That one was in the garage. You fell on the chair when you were still very small. So your father decided to keep it to avoid hurting yourself.”
I looked at the old man. “So you know me?”
He smiled and nodded. “You might not remember me, but my memory is still perfectly intact. Let me take you to his office. I did not touch anything but kept everything clean.”
The moment I reached the door, I already shook to cry as I bent to touch the small dent on the door. “When my father didn’t answer me, and I knew I was inside, I grabbed a big spoon and banged it against the door to get his attention.”
“You remember?” Terzo asked.
“Some.” I wiped my tears, but it kept coming. “It’s bits and pieces. I don’t know about a memory of a child, but I must be older than four.”
The door swung open, and I began to hyperventilate as my memories rushed like blurs.
I saw my father sitting in the chair, writing. All of a sudden, he was smoking while reading, and then he was standing at the corner near the window, laughing. Then he came back to answer the phone, and then there was a beautiful, dark-haired woman who just walked in, and they kissed and danced. And then the little girl in pigtails and then she looked at me before everything just went black.
