I slid the signed divorce papers onto the table and programmed a timed delivery for the recording meant for Vincent.
With that final task checked off, I hoisted my luggage and made for the airport.
My phone buzzed the moment I stepped through the terminal doors - Vincent again.
"Jude, I'm sorry," his voice oozed false regret. "Some partners just crashed my meeting about next quarter's collab line. Can't ditch them now."
"I had my assistant handle everything for you. Oh, and remember how you always nagged me to design you a dress?" His tone turned smug. "Well surprise - it's ready. You'll look stunning in it."
"Thanks," I deadpanned before ending the call.
Nearby, two starry-eyed girls were practically vibrating over a phone screen.
"No way! Mr. Long doesn't just have model looks - he designs maternity wear that makes me wish I was expecting!" one squealed.
"Like you could afford these," her friend snorted. "Every piece at today's show was custom-made for his pregnant wife. Hundreds of exclusive designs in premium fabrics - she'll outgrow half before wearing them! Ugh, the jealousy is real."
"My boyfriend pulled strings to get us these pics - he's a manager at Long Enterprises. This invite-only event? Total media blackout to 'not disturb the expecting Mrs. Long.'"
The video showed Estelle gliding down the runway on Vincent's arm, radiant in gowns that cost more than my annual salary.
Long Enterprises dominated fashion, and Vincent's talent was undeniable. I'd begged him for years to design me just one dress - always met with "too busy" excuses. Yet for Estelle? He'd crafted an entire maternity collection without breaking sweat.
His earlier "surprise dress" comment now tasted like ash in my mouth.
The boarding call interrupted my thoughts. I powered off my phone and settled into my international flight seat - freedom bound.
Meanwhile, after playing dress-up with Estelle, Vincent rushed to the hotel where Judith's surprise birthday party awaited.
He pictured her twirling in his chosen gown, looking every bit the angelic wife.
Instead, he found his panicked secretary wringing her hands. "Mr. Long! The madam - she's gone!"
