"What… what do you mean by 'nutrition,' Vince? I don't—I don't understand," Estelle stammered, her face flushing with panic.
Vincent had expected this. With a cold smirk, he pulled up the security footage from the Long Estate gates that day.
Back then, Estelle had been so smug, so sure of herself, she'd forgotten about the cameras.
"All these years, you've played the victim—pretending to care about Jude when I was around, then tormenting her the second my back was turned."
"If it weren't for your little slip-up at the birthday party, I might never have seen through your act."
"Because of you, I've had to destroy my own children. I made sure Jude could never carry another. I'll burn for that, I know. But you—you paid off everyone around me just to keep torturing her. She's no threat to you anymore. Why couldn't you just let her be?!"
Estelle stood frozen, her lies unraveling before her.
"Vince, I—I had no choice!" she sobbed, tears streaming. "The fortune teller said… said I had to consume those things to bear a son. Only a son would secure my place. I swear, it wasn't my fault!"
"Enough!" Vincent roared. "All you care about is your status—your precious 'Mrs. CEO' title. Did you ever think about Jude? Why did you tell her I gave you that child? Just to drive her away? To make me your puppet?"
His voice dropped to a lethal whisper. "You wanted a son? You wanted to be Mrs. CEO so badly? Fine, Estelle. I'll make sure you lose everything you ever cared about."
He clapped his hands. Men in white coats entered, their faces impassive. Estelle's breath hitched.
"W-what are you doing? I'm your cousin's wife! I carry the Long family bloodline—you can't touch me!"
Vincent's grin was pure malice. "Mrs. CEO? After what you did to Jude?" He turned to the men. "Scrape that filth out of her. No anesthesia. And make her watch as she eats it."
Her screams echoed through the estate long after they dragged her away.
When Jared and I arrived in Snowdonia, the aurora stole our breath. No camera could ever do justice to its shimmering brilliance.
We decided to stay—to write, to fish, to live. I even started selling my catch at the harbor. One day, as Jared and I bickered with a stingy old man over prices, a voice cut through the noise.
"I'll take all of it."
Vincent stood before me.
His gaze was haunted, desperate. When he finally spoke, his voice was barely a whisper, as if I might vanish like a dream.
"Jude… I found you."
Before I could react, Jared shoved between us, fury blazing.
"You've got some nerve showing your face! Haven't you ruined her enough? Get lost! We'd rather feed this to strays than sell it to you."
Vincent—proud, untouchable Vincent—took the insult without flinching. His eyes never left mine, raw with guilt.
"Jude, I know I'm a monster. But please… just talk to me."
I met his gaze, ice in my veins. "There's nothing left to say, Vincent. Go home."
He shook his head, stubborn to the end.
