(Dev's POV)
When I returned to the human realm, I didn't tell anyone in my family where I’d disappeared to. Not my stepmother, step-siblings.. No one.
And I certainly never told them that I suspected our father; the man we all mourned and buried, might still be alive.
It sounded crazy. Even to me.
But I could never forget that day. The battle at the palace.. The fight, the blood, and Aunt Lamia casting a spell to save our lives… then just before the portal swallowed us whole, a gust of wind blew back one of the hooded figures, and underneath the hood... I saw him.
My father.
Or someone who looked exactly like him. But the way my heart slammed in my chest, the way my breath caught, the way every fiber of my being screamed his name… it couldn't have been coincidence. It was raw instinct. It was pain. I felt it in my bones, like a ghost clawing back into the world.
I was told of his death. I stood before his coffin. I saw his corpse. So, how could it be?
But if it was him, why had he never reached out? Why make me loyal to Lily when the inner circle sees Lily as a threat? Or did they not?
All of these seemed like puzzle that didn't fit. They made no sense.
"Mr. Dev?"
A voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I blinked and looked around. I was still in the VIP lounge of Red Hearts Club, seated with two businessmen and my assistant. A cold wine sat in my hand, half-forgotten.
This meeting should've been handled by my stepbrother; the marketing lead but of course, he bailed again. Always disappearing when responsibility knocks, and showing up when it comes to spending money.
I straightened in my seat and responded clearly. The investor had asked about our digital expansion model: how we planned to improve outreach and boost quarterly sales.
“We’ll use targeted influencer partnerships," I said, gesturing toward the tablet. "We’ve revised our strategy to focus on micro-influencers within our target regions. This way, we maintain trust and high engagement.”
He raised a brow. "And revenue projections?"
"We’re expecting an 18% increase over the next six months," I replied confidently.
He nodded, visibly impressed. "That’s exactly the kind of aggressive, data-backed strategy we need."
A deal was agreed on with a firm handshake. My assistant tapped something into a tablet, noting down the agreement.
"I’ll have the contracts emailed over shortly, sir," my PA said politely.
After the business was concluded, the atmosphere loosened. The men leaned back, ordering more drinks. They began chatting casually, their conversation quickly descending into the usual women talk.
I tuned out, nodding occasionally, until I excused myself to the restroom. On my way, I passed a couple tucked in a quiet corner, whispering and laughing together. Their closeness hit me harder than expected. My heart stuttered, and I felt a longing so deep it nearly pulled me to my knees.
I closed my eyes briefly and whispered, "Moon Goddess, please help me to be strong. Help me wait for her, till we meet again"
I turned back toward the VIP lounge, the weight of the deal still lingering in my thoughts, when I reached for the handle of the lounge door. But just as I pulled it open and sat down, it hit me—a scent so sweet, so powerful, it slammed into my senses like lightning.
My wolf surged forward with a feral growl.
"Mate!"
My vision sharpened, flickering silver as my wolf threatened to push forward. Every hair on my neck stood as I turned slowly.
No.
It couldn’t be.
The princess? Here? In the human realm?
Or had the Moon Goddess given me another mate?
I stood slowly, scanning the club.
And then I saw her on the podium, dancing.
Zelda.
She moved like fire… wild, free, and mesmerizing. Her skimpy dress clung to her curves, her hips rolling in ways that made the men around her lean closer. But her eyes… they locked with mine. It was like time stopped.
Then some fool placed his hands on her waist, trying to dance with her.
My beast roared.
I was on my feet before I realized it.
"Excuse me," I muttered, already striding away from the table.
I reached them in seconds. Rage boiled inside me. I grabbed the man by the collar and yanked him back with a snarl.
The music stopped. Conversations paused, and all heads turned.
Then, as if on cue, the crowd erupted with cheers, thinking it was part of the club show. I rolled my eyes.
Zelda giggled, clearly drunk, and stumbled into me. Her hands found my chest.
"Hmm… Mr bad wolf guy" she murmured, pressing hard against me.
Oh goddess, give me strength.
I scooped her into my arms. My escorts at the club entrance quickly took their positions. I stepped out as one of them opened the car door. I wrapped my suit jacket around her bare shoulders and carried her out.
In the car, her head rested on my lap. She smelled of strawberries and danger.
I should’ve been angry. I should’ve been focused. But all I could think was: how was this happening?
When did she come to the human realm? Why didn’t anyone inform me? What does this mean for Lily and the kids?
Because one thing was certain: nothing would ever be the same again.
As the car sped toward home, I contemplated whether I should have my intel dig up Zion’s address and return her there.
It would be safer, and morereasonable or lodging her in a hotel. Against my better judgment, I couldn't let her go. I wasn’t sure what state she’d be in come morning, and I wasn’t ready to risk her waking up somewhere unfamiliar… or worse, alone.
We reached the house in no time. I carried her upstairs, past the curious staff, into one of the guest rooms.
She stirred as I laid her on the bed.
Her voice was soft. A whisper
She sat up slowly, her eyes glossy, her cheeks flushed.
"You’re here," she said, stepping off the bed.
She walked to me. One step. Then another.
My heart pounded.
Then she kissed me.
I froze for a split second.
Then I kissed her back.
Every moment we had missed. Every smile. Every touch. Every stolen glance from years ago. It came flooding back.
When she stepped back and slowly climbed onto the bed, her eyes pulling me in, I didn’t resist.
We threw caution to the wind.
I took her like my last meal. My hands roamed, claiming every inch of her as she welcomed me with eager, burning touches. Her skin was fire beneath mine, her breath hot and needy against my neck.
Finally, she was mine.
