                    (Lily’s POV)
Tobe had just said he didn’t pick up Lamia and Zeus.
I stood frozen, heart hammering so loudly I could barely hear anything else. Slowly, I stepped out of the room where Mrs. Grace and the technician remained, my knees trembling beneath me.
“But Tobe…” I whispered into the phone, barely holding on. “I told you to pick them. We talked. I called… you said you would.”
His voice was laced with disbelief. “But this is the first time we’re talking today. I’ve been at the martial arts center since morning. You know Wednesdays are my training days.”
No. no, no, no. This isn’t happening.
Tobe was still speaking, “Usually I leave my phone with my men but today I'd put it in one of my private locker at the suite. I just got it back.”
Something inside me broke.
The phone slipped from my fingers and hit the floor. I staggered, the world tilting, my vision going dark... but I didn’t hit the ground.
Strong arms caught me.
I didn't need to turn to know who it was, his earthy and forest spice scentl gave it way... I collapsed into him, and the words tore out of me, broken and shaking. “Our kids… my kids—” I caught myself. “My kids have been kidnapped…”
His arms tightened around me, grounding me. Mrs. Grace stepped out, her expression twisted with confusion and concern, but I couldn’t focus. Not on her. Not on anything.
The phone buzzed where it lay on the floor. Zion picked it up, typed quickly, then glanced up. “It’s Tobe. He’s asking where you are,” he mouthed. “I told him.”
I nodded, unable to speak.
He pulled me into his arms again and whispered soft words of comfort.
After sometime, he called Lucien, while still patting my shoulders. As they spoke, I heard screeching tires outside; my friends were here. Aria, Dev, and Tobe ran toward us.
“Lily!” Aria cried.
I pushed myself out of Zion’s embrace and ran into Aria’s warmth. Dev and Tobe flanked me, their eyes hard and furious, especially on Zion.
Moments later, Lucien arrived. He didn’t speak much but exchanged a soft look with Aria. The tension between them hung heavy.
“We’ll split up,” Lucien said. “Now.”
“I’m going with Tobe,” I said instantly. I couldn’t trust myself with Zion right now.
Lucien nodded. “Aria with me. Dev, go with Zion.”
They hesitated, but urgency pushed us all forward...
As Tobe and I got into the car, the silence was thick and suffocating. The city lights passed in a blur outside the windows, but all I could hear was the pounding of my heart and the thoughts screaming in my head.
“Lily,” Tobe said softly as he drove, gripping the wheel tight. “I swear to you, I would never hurt your children. Never. I— I can’t believe this is happening.”
I stared out the window, voice low “I know. I know you wouldn’t.”
“Someone must have used my phone,” he murmured. “That means they know us. They know you’d trust me.”
I showed him my call log. “I spoke to you. I was so sure it was you, and the CCTV... the man looked like you, but he limped. Tobe, you don’t limp.”
He clenched his jaw, clenching the wheels till his knuckles turned white.
“They took my babies,” I whispered, hugging myself. “Right from under our noses.”
His grip on the steering tightened. “Then we’ll find them. I promise.”
Our first search was at the Glimmer Park. The sun had fallen low, and the park was nearly empty now, a breeze rustled through the trees that stood tall and indifferent. The swings creaked gently in the wind, and the sandbox was scattered with forgotten toys.
Lamia’s laughter echoed in my mind, how she loved playing there. How Zeus once fell in the fountain and pouted for hours.
I ran to the bench where I usually sat with them and scanned everything. “Lamia! Zeus!” I called out, voice cracking.
There was nothing, just the wind.
We turned back to the car, the silence clawing at my chest.
The second stop was at the Xato Library. The small glass-fronted building sat tucked between two stores. I burst inside, startling the elderly librarian.
“Have you seen two little kids?” I asked breathlessly. “Twins. A boy and girl. Four year-olds with blue eyes, curly hair. They love the picture book aisle.”
She frowned. “I haven’t seen any children all evening.”
I walked straight to their favorite shelf, but they weren't there. I touched a book with shaking hands and bit back a sob. “Please…” I whispered to no one.
Tobe encouraged me to check more places and not give up... I was already going crazy. Our final stop was at the StarVista Rooftop Mall.
The parking lot lights buzzed as we got out. I didn’t wait for Tobe. I ran through the crowd, past the glass doors, into the elevator, to the rooftop garden where they loved the lights.
“Lamia! Zeus!” I screamed.
I ran along the stone path, past the glowing sculptures. The children’s play corner was empty. The fake stars overhead flickered dimly, casting long shadows on my hope. I fell to my knees near the fountain where Lamia once made a wish.
“Come back to me,” I whispered.
“Lily...” Tobe grabbed me as I lunged forward. “They’re not here. We’ve looked everywhere...”
“They have to be!” I screamed. “They have to be!”
My sobs turned to screams. I fought him, shoved at him, but he held me anyway.
“LET ME GO! I have to find them! They’re out there, scared and alone. They need me!”
I clawed at the air, my throat raw, body shaking but Tobe didn’t let go. He carried me back to the car like I weighed nothing. My body was stiff, my face wet... the onlookers and camera clicks were least of my worries.
“Please,” I whispered, not even knowing who I was begging anymore. “Please bring them back to me.”
When Tobe eased me into the house, I sank onto the couch, arms limp, eyes blank.
“Maybe… maybe the others found them,” he whispered. “Maybe Zion, Dev or Lucien and Aria…”
I didn’t answer.
Then the phone buzzed again. I barely reacted.
“Hello?” Tobe answered.
It was Aria. “Is Lily there? where are you guys?" she asked "Please haven’t found them.”
“We’re at home.”
“We’re nearby. We’re coming.”
Minutes passed in a blur.
Lucien and Aria walked in; their faces were carved from stone and sadness. Then my protocols began to return, one by one.
All of them came with empty hands. Some didn’t speak, while others shook their heads.
I couldn't move, but stare blankly at the door.
My children were gone...
I pressed my palms against my face and screamed into them. Black dots began to cover my eyes when the door creaked open, and there were tiny footsteps.
“Mommy?”
My vision brightened instantly. I trembled...
Dev had entered first. Followed by Zion who had my babies hands clasped in his.
Lamia and Zeus were home.
