                    (Lily’s POV)
"I've heard a lot about you," she said softly as we all stepped into the living room.
Her voice was friendly but something in my chest tightened. I couldn’t tell if it was instinct or just the built up tension from everything Lydia had told me about a certain Rose. Still, I managed a small nod.
Tobe looked like he couldn’t stop smiling, "She means me. I talk about you guys all the time." he chuckled.
Aria, ever curious, clapped her hands together. “Oh really? What kind of things?” she asked Rose, settling into one of the chairs as she smiled warmly.
“Oh, that you’re fiercely protective, and that you once slapped a guy for trying to touch Lily’s hair without asking,” Rose said with a mischievous glint. I remember that scene clearly. We had just come to the human world and my baby bump wasn’t obvious at that time… the guy was interested in me and thought the best way to get my attention was by caressing my hair.
Aria burst into laughter, clapping her hands. “I did! That creep thought we were a display shelf.”
Rose laughed some more and told us more. Like when Dev tried to cook and nearly set the kitchen on fire, or how I used to sneak snacks under my pillow because of my extreme cravings at the time.
I laughed too, despite myself. The room warmed with easy chatter, and for a moment, I let myself breathe… Maybe I was overthinking.
Maybe she wasn’t the Rose from the prophecy. Maybe this was all just a coincidence.
“I like her,” Vaelith murmured, unusually soft. “She feels like home.”
My wolf, Ravena, tensed immediately. “No, that can’t be good. Stay alert, Lily. She’s hiding something. I can feel it.”
I tried to keep my face neutral, but I was rattled inside. Two beasts; two voices, two instincts and neither agreed.
Rose’s gaze shifted when she spotted Lamia and Zeus. Her face lit up.
"Aww, are these your twins?" she asked, but before I could respond, she had crouched down beside them, cooing and reaching for their faces. She tucked Lamia’s curls behind her ear and gently tapped Zeus’ nose.
The kids were polite of course, smiling and saying hello, but my instincts screamed. Her gaze lingered far too long. It wasn’t admiration. It was study.
My arms moved before my brain caught up.
"They’ve had a long day," I said quickly, sweeping Lamia into my arms and taking Zeus’s hand. "They need to bathe and rest."
Aria stood too, catching the tone in my voice. "Definitely. They’re sticky from the park."
I nodded. "Let’s go."
As we turned toward the hallway, I could feel Rose’s eyes drilling into my back. Something in me clenched.
Once we were in the hallway, I glanced at Aria. “What do you think of her?”
Aria shrugged as we reached the kids’ bedroom. “She smells human. Seems okay. Why?”
“I don’t know. I just…” I rubbed my arm. “I feel something. It’s probably nothing. I’ve had a long week.”
“Exactly. You’ve been through a lot. Your senses are on high alert,” she said softly.
Yes, she has to be right. I was being paranoid, besides there were a lot of Roses in the world. Meeting this Lady could be just a coincidence and not some orchestration…
I handed the twins over to Nanny Sophia, who took them upstairs to wash up.
Back in my room, I changed into something soft and comfortable. Aria did too. We returned to the sitting room, where Rose was still sitting neatly beside Tobe, her hands clasped, her smile unwavering.
As soon as we sat down, Rose nudged him gently. “Go on. Tell them.” she said, grinning from ear to ear.
Aria and I exchanged curious glances.
Tobe cleared his throat, then beamed.
“We’re getting married in two weeks.”
