                    (Lily’s POV)
My lips parted, but no words came out. I was trying to process what Tobe had just said.
They were getting married? Already??
Aria blinked beside me and tilted her head, trying to make sure she’d heard right. “Wait, what did you just say? how many weeks again?”
“Two weeks,” Tobe repeated with a boyish grin, his arm wrapped tightly around Rose, who beamed at him like he was the center of her universe.
I turned to look at Aria, our eyes locking. The same thought passed between us: Why the rush?
I cleared my throat. “Don’t you think it’s… a bit soon?”
Tobe turned his head toward me, his expression gentle yet firm. “We’ve waited all our lives to find each other, and now that we have there’s no reason to delay or stall our forever... besides the Moon Goddess doesn’t make mistakes.”
I swallowed hard at that. My wolf stirred cautiously within me, while Vaelith purred with quiet interest. I didn’t know what disturbed me more, the timing or how seamlessly Rose has woven herself into our lives.
Still, I nodded slowly. Tobe looked genuinely happy. He was happier than I’d seen him in years. It wasn’t in my place to ruin that for him.
“If this is what you truly want, Tobe” I murmured, “then we’ll support you.”
Aria agreed, though her voice lacked its usual warmth.
Rose gave a small squeal and leaned into Tobe. “The invitation cards should be out soon,” she added excitedly.
We saw them off to the foyer and watched as they slipped into Tobe’s car. He glanced back at us once and smiled before pulling out of the driveway.
When I turned back to Aria, she stood still, her brows drawn slightly together. There was something heavy in her gaze.
“You okay?” I asked quietly.
She blinked and nodded. “Yeah… just processing.”
We didn’t speak again as we returned inside.
The next morning I tried to focus on work and not the lingering discomfort I felt after they left. I didn't want to overthink it, especially not when I had so much on my plate already.
As Marcus dropped me off at the office, I greeted a few of the early staff, entered the building, and took the elevator up to the executive floor. The scent of citrus-oiled marble floors and the morning coffee filled the hallway. It was familiar, and comforting.
My office felt a little too quiet when I stepped in. I set down my bag and opened it to begin sorting my gadgets and files when I noticed a thick envelope sticking out.
I pulled it out, and as soon as I did, a smile tugged at my lips. I had forgotten the swimming park pictures in my bag and brought it with me. I hadn't even show the kids yet.
Carefully, I slid them out. The fun memories came rushing back. Zeus, in his cartoon-themed red trunk, matching cap, and goggles, while Lamia had her heart-patterned strawberry piece.
There were shots of them splashing water, of Aria laughing, of me holding their hands mid-jump. The joy in our faces was raw, real… I smiled at the pictures, my heart momentarily light.
Just as I was about to place them in the drawer, the landline rang.
I reached for it. “Yes?”
“Ma’am,” came my Receptionist’s voice. “There’s someone here to see you…”
“Who?” I asked.
“The CEO of Virelux Conglomerate.” she answered.
My heart stopped.
“Zion?”
“Yes, ma’am. He’s here on the executive floor. I believe the staff downstairs let him up because of his position.”
A nervous chill ran down my spine. Panic fluttered in my chest. Why was he here? I forced myself to breathe, to stay calm. I needed to act normal. Whatever this was, I could handle it. I should be able to handle it.
“Okay… send him in.” I muttered, standing up in haste, the chair scraped slightly behind me as I dropped the photos onto the table.
My hands were trembling slightly as I smoothed my dress and walked toward the door to welcome him.
When I opened, Zion was standing there just behind Rita-the receptionist. I gave her a nod of acknowledgment and she bowed before leaving.
Zion stool tall, and breathtaking in his tailored dark suit. The silence stretched between us like a fraying string seconds away from snapping.
Then I ushered him in, stammering “H-Hi, please come in.”
“Thanks,” he replied stiffly.
When he entered my office, I sat on my seat and he sat just opposite me. I fumbled for what to say and quickly stood to my feet “I’ll go make something warm,” I said, heading there to my small kitchenette.
My nerves were firing in every direction. Why was he here?
I measured the water, making Aunt Lamia’s special tea into a cup, and let the scent of chamomile and honey ground me. There was something cool about making it for Zion.
I’d always wanted him to try this tea, and even though we are like strangers now, I still wanted him to taste it.
After mixing it thoroughly, I carefully carried the cup out, the warmth of the tea seeping through the porcelain.
But then I stopped mid-step.
He was holding one of our photos from the swimming park.
His eyes were red-rimmed. Not from exhaustion… but from something else.
He growled softly, his voice thick. “What is this?”
I blinked, whispering “W-What?”
He turned the photo toward me, fingers pointing at Zeus’s bare arm. “This mark… what is this?”
My breath caught in my throat as my heart slammed in my chest.
I looked closely… the small, spiral-shaped birthmark, identical to the one that ran down Zion’s arm was very obvious in the picture.
I opened my mouth to speak; to lie, to explain, or say something but nothing came.
I trembled, and I didn't know when the teacup slipped from my grip.
It hit the tiled floor and shattered with a sharp, echoing crack…
