                    (Zion’s POV)
I hadn’t planned on going to her office.
Initially, I thought I’d stop by her house in the evening but that felt... invasive, ungentlemanly and too personal. This wasn’t a casual visit, it was something official. Something necessary.
Rejecting my supposed mate deserved some form of dignity, professionalism and distance.
That’s why I decided to speak with her in her office this morning.
Although I arrived without an appointment, her staff regarded me with respect. My protocols and I were ushered in with polite bows, and warm smiles… But none of their reverence prepared me for what I was about to walk into after I told my protocols to wait a few distance to her office.
The moment her receptionist led me to her door, and she came to welcome me in… the air shifted.
She looked like she hadn’t expected me either. Her posture stiffened as her lips twitched into a rehearsed smile.
Then we sat opposite each other, and a beat of silence stretched.
She smoothed her skirt, barely meeting my eyes and stood up. "I’ll go make something warm.”
Before I could respond, she turned on her heel and walked briskly toward the corner of the office. Her heels clicked softly against the tile as she moved, a little too fast for comfort.
Then she was out of sight.
I was still rehearsing the words of my intended rejection when something on her desk caught my eye.
Photos peeking out of an envelope.
I reached for them instinctively, a faint smile curving my lips as I recognized Lamia and Zeus’ happy faces. They were laughing and playing in a pool. Their curls were wet, and Lamia was in a tiny swimsuit and Zeus was bare-chested in swim shorts, cap and goggles.
Their smiles warmed my soul. I looked closely... then I saw it.
The smile slid from my face.
My blood ran cold.
My gaze zeroed in on their exposed arms. There it was. The mark. That unmistakable spiral.
The one only three people in the supernatural realm bore; my father, Zelda, and me.
No one else.
Until now.
Lily returned, holding a teacup with careful hands. She paused when she saw me.
I didn’t even let her speak. “What is this?”
“W-What?” she asked in return
I turned the photo toward her, with my fingers pointing at both Zeus and Lamia’s bare arms.
The teacup slipped from her grasp and shattered against the tiles. She bend down to pick it up, but I wouldn't let her. I needed answers for crying out loud and I needed them quick.
I moved toward her, my boots crunching lightly over ceramic shards.
I pulled her away “What is that mark they have on their arms?”
She went silent and avoided my eyes. Finally she said,“It’s nothing serious. It’s just a scar from a little accident- a cut at home. It’s nothing to worry about.”
I could tell she was lying.
I narrowed my eyes on her. “Lying doesn’t suit you, Lily.”
Then I removed my suit jacket in one fluid motion, my gaze fixed on her as I tossed it aside. I began to unfasten the cuffs of my white shirt slowly, deliberately, then rolled up my left sleeve.
I turned my arm and pointed to the spiral-shaped mark etched into my skin by the goddess herself.
“Compare them,” I said, my voice rough. I held up the photo in one hand and extended my arm with the other. “Look at them, Lily. My mark. Their mark. Tell me it’s just a coincidence.”
Her hands trembled. She stared, eyes wide.
“...Is there something you’re not telling me?” I asked.
Tears slipped down her cheeks as she shook her head “you’re lying to me,” I whispered.
Regnar surged inside me, screaming “Mate! She’s our mate!” but I shoved the beast down, barely.
Still, my body betrayed me.
I reached for her jaw, not thinking, just feeling… And then I kissed her.
It wasn’t gentle. It was a desperate clash of lips and emotion, short and stolen.
My heart thundered in my chest as I pulled back, stunned by how familiar her lips still were.
I should’ve stopped. Should’ve walked away.
But I didn’t.
I kissed her again… harder.. deeper.
And this time, she didn’t resist. Her body curled toward mine like it knew me. My hands gripped her waist, her breath caught in her throat. The taste of her, the feel of her… but just as I began to lose myself, a knock shattered the moment.
We broke apart instantly.
The door creaked, someone muttered “Oh... I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
I turned just in time to see a woman poke her head in, eyes wide with cheeks flushed.
“I was just leaving,” I said sharply, releasing Lily’s face.
I adjusted my jacket, turned on my heel, and walked out of the office. My protocols met me...
As I descended from the elevator and stepped into the sunlight, everything inside me burned.
The moment I slid into my car, I exhaled sharply.
I didn’t even know that I was holding my breath.
I reached for my phone… and didn’t hesitate.
Lily Pison.
What the hell are you hiding?
I grabbed my phone and dialed the private line royals are to use only in critical situations.
The voice on the other end answered immediately. “Your highness?”
“I need you to run a background check on someone. Her name is Lily Pison… I need every detail... Where she’s been, when she came to the human realm. If she was pregnant before or after. Who she knew… Every secret, every connection to the supernatural realm, use all spiritual and physical means possible. Leave no stone unturned.”
There was a pause.
“Alright, Prince Zion. We’ll get on it now.”
I ended the call.
The city blurred past the window as the driver pulled out.
This wasn’t over…
