(Lily's POV)
I shouldn't have waited for him, but I did.
I couldn't help but hope he'd just open the door, take one look at me, kiss me passionately, and somehow, we’d continue from where we stopped. That the fire in his eyes would return, and he’d take me roughly on the desk until we’re exhausted...
But alas, he never came. I was left all alone to fix myself.
I stared at my ripped panties on the floor and slid down the desk with shaky legs to pick them up. My fingers trembled as I stuffed them into my pocket. Then I adjusted my skirt and tried to tame my wild hair with my fingers. My cheeks were still warm. My lips, still swollen.
The hallway outside was silent, almost haunting. That’s when it hit me; class had probably started. And not just any class.
We were having ‘Moon Lore and Pack Relations’ with Miss Halley.
Oh no.
Miss Halley was the only teacher who made attendance count for forty percent of our grade. She was as elegant as she was strict, and never tolerated tardiness.
Panic surged in my chest.
I broke into a run.
My boots echoed down the corridor as I whispered a silent prayer, begging the moon goddess that Miss Halley would be late, just this once.
When I reached the classroom door and peeked in, relief washed over me. She wasn't in yet.
I exhaled shakily.
I slipped into the room, trying to ignore the eyes already turning in my direction. I kept my chin up and my gaze straight, refusing to meet anyone’s stare.
Although I promised myself that I’d be strong and show to Zion that I could do without him, he had easily broken through my defenses… Now, I was an emotional wreck, hiding behind a weak armor.
Whispers stirred around me “Zion really carried her out like that?”
“And now she enters after him? I bet they weren’t just studying.” a guy said with a mischievous grin.
Laughter filled the air. I clenched my jaw and walked to my seat, heat rushing to my ears.
Why wasn’t Zion saying anything?
My eyes fought to avoid him, but my wolf and demon; Ravena and Vaelith, were restless. They howled and prowled within me, begging me to just look.
I gave in… There he was, sitting at the back and laughing at ease with Lucien and Kade.
Lucien.
They had reconciled just like that, like nothing happened. Like Zion hadn’t thrown us under the bus at the party…
I blinked fast and looked away.
All the effort I made to show that Zion didn’t have control of me was fruitless… I wasn’t over him, and he? He wasn’t even looking at me.
I sank into my seat and reached for my bag. My fingers brushed the worn-out corner of my textbook when the classroom door creaked open.
Miss Halley walked in, elegant as ever. Her pale blue skirt swayed with each step, and her silver-blonde hair was packed in a ponytail.
“Settle down, everyone. Books out,” she commands firmly, and my classmates went to have their seats; chairs scraping and bags unzipping.
I kept my head low, pretending to look for a pen I’d already found.
That’s when I saw her.
Celeste’s minion.
The one who caught me and Zion in a compromising position.
She was already seated beside an unusually quiet Celeste, but the moment our eyes met, she smirked and leaned in to whisper something into Celeste’s ear.
I didn’t hear it, but my heart raced rapidly.
Celeste’s posture stiffened, and her smile faded. Her fingers held a pen so tight that it snapped into two. Then she turned, and my breath caught my throat. She slowly stared at Zion, and then me.
Her pupils narrowed, her eyes flashing icy rage as I gulped hard.
She knew.
I looked away instantly, my heart thudding painfully against my ribs.
There was no more hiding about Zion and I.
I opened my book with trembling hands, and pretended to follow Miss Halley’s lecture as she scribbled notes on the board about the moon goddess and the ancient rites of bond awakening.
But I didn’t hear a word. All I could feel was the weight of Celeste’s glare burning through me.
I skept my eyes on the page. The letters blurred, my vision swam but I didn’t blink- couldn't move.
Celeste hated me before.
But now?
That look… it was more than hate. It was almost evil.
When Miss Halley finally dismissed us, I didn’t wait for the bell to stop echoing before shoving my things into my bag and turning to leave.
I walked quickly to my locker, needing to breathe when I twisted my lock open and something fluttered out.
A folded piece of paper landed at my feet.
I stared at it.
My name wasn’t on it. There was no decoration; just clean, precise folds.
I picked it up slowly, and unfolded it:
"Meet me at the Catiken woods after school.
Z."
Zion?
My heart pounded. Was this an apology or a joke?
After school, I hurried to the Catiken woods. The place was quiet, and leaves rustled gently above me as I stepped into the clearing where I thought he’d be.
But he wasn’t, and my heart sank. “Zion?” I called cautiously, my senses alert.
No reply.
I took another step, and that was when I heard it.
A footstep. Then another.
I spun around just in time to see three figures stepping out from behind the trees. Their faces were covered with dark masks.
“Who are you?” I asked, baring my teeth slightly. Ravena stirred, and Vaelith energy snaked through my veins.
One of them lunged, and I ducked before kicking his leg. He fell to the ground with a groan. Another man charged at me from the left, and I growled before slamming my elbow into his ribs. My claws slipped halfway out… when the third person suddenly grabbed me from behind and pressed something cold against my neck.
I smelled wolfsbane.
“No!” I snarled, thrashing to be released but I wasn’t quick enough.
Black dots covers my vision and my knees gave way...
