                    (Lily's POV)
“I’m sorry, Lily. But I can’t let you both reject each other. Not like this. We’ll have to come to a compromise.”
The King’s words echoed in my head, bouncing around like cruel laughter in a haunted room.
My heart thumped with disbelief, and the sting of betrayal ran hot through my veins. A compromise? Was that it?
For a moment, I just stared at him... at the man I had grown up calling Father. The one who had sent me away, not once, but twice. The one who claimed to protect the kingdom, yet never once thought about how his decisions shattered me.
“You’re joking,” I whispered, blinking rapidly as I took a step back. “You’re joking, right?”
Neither of them said anything. Not the King. Not the Queen. Zion stood beside me, his mouth slightly open like he wanted to say something but didn’t know how.
That’s when it hit me.
They were serious.
“You’re being selfish!” I snapped, my voice trembling with fury. “All of you! This isn’t about what’s right or what’s best for me. This is about what’s best for Zion or the kingdom right? that’s all it’s ever been!”
“Lily…” Queen Eden said softly, reaching out.
“No!” I jerked away from her touch. “Don’t. Don’t touch me. Don’t pretend like you care.”
Her face crumbled.
“You don’t get to stand there and act like you care about me. Not when you’ve always picked him over me. I'm only your daughter when it's convenient, but the moment things got complicated, you cast me aside like some taboo.”
The Queen’s hand dropped to her side, and tears filled her eyes.
Zion took a step forward. “Lily, please—”
“Shut up!” I cried, the sound raw and loud. “You lied to me. You told me you loved me. You said I was your everything, and all the while, you slept with Celeste and didn't say a word.”
The room felt too small. My chest heaved. Every inch of my skin buzzed with fury and pain.
“I will reject you,” I said, looking Zion dead in the eye. “I don’t care what anyone says. I will reject you, and I will make you accept it.”
Queen Eden reached out again, a fresh wave of tears running down her cheeks. “Lily, please, listen to me. That’s not what we want. We love you.”
“No, you don’t,” I whispered, stepping back. “You never did.”
The silence was thick and suffocating.
Then I turned and ran.
The last thing I saw was the Queen collapsing into the King’s arms, her sobs shaking her shoulders as she crumpled to the floor.
The King held her, his face pale, like the weight of everything had finally broken through his usual composure.
I didn’t look back.
My feet carried me through the halls, and through the gates. I didn’t care where I was going. I just needed to get away.
But I wasn’t fast enough.
"Lily!" Zion's footsteps pounded behind me. I pushed myself harder, channeling on Ravena and Vaelith's strength.
Suddenly the sound of running receded. A second later, his strong arms wrapped around my waist, and I was yanked off the ground.
“Let me go!” I screamed, thrashing wildly.
“No.”
Zion held me tightly and increased his pace. Everything else was a blur of motion; the trees, wind... My hands instinctively gripped his shirt without meaning to.
The night air was cold against my skin, but his arms were so warm, and I hated that it still comforted me.
We stopped in an open clearing, the moonlight bathing everything in blue and silver. He set me down, and I stumbled back a few steps, chest heaving.
“Don’t touch me,” I snapped, hugging myself.
He looked at me like I was breaking him.
“We need to talk Lily,” he said, voice low.
I scoffed. “You don't get to decide that anymore.”
“Please, you have to believe me Lily.” he shouted. “I'm fighting for our love!”
I paused because even though my heart was aching, it still fluttered at his words.
I shook my head quickly. “It’s too late. You let Celeste get pregnant for you and you still want me in your life as your mate... sorry, but you can't eat your cake and have it."
Then, he stepped forward, eyes burning.
“You’re mine, Lily.” he whispered, crashing his lips into mine fiercely, and desperately...
My knees turned to jelly, my fingers curled into his shirt... but then I remembered the betrayal. I didn't know when I shoved him back and slapped him hard across the face.
The sound cracked through the forest.
He staggered, stunned.
Tears burned down my cheeks. “No. This ends now.”
I swiped my face, and took a deep breath.
“I, Lily Pison, reje—” I was saying when he vanished into thin air.
He was gone just like that.
“Zion?!”
I spun around, but there was nothing but the wind and the shadows.
