                    (Lord Adonis’ POV)
I slammed my fist into the wall of my study, the force sending cracks through the stone.
The ache that pulsed in my knuckles was nothing compared to the fury simmering in my chest.
How dare he? How dare King Eros; my best friend, embarrass me and my family in the presence of those peasants?
That bastard son of his standing there and proclaiming that the demon child was his mate… as though the Moon Goddess hadn’t lost her mind.
“The Moon Goddess.” I scoffed bitterly.
She must’ve been drunk when she paired Zion with that monster’s seed.
I paced the room, my jaw clenched so tightly it ached.
Once upon a time, I would’ve died for Eros. We fought side by side in the great war, trained together, ruled together. But now? Now I saw it clearly.
He wasn’t better than me. He never was.
So why wasn’t I King?
The thought had started as a whisper. A quiet question in the corners of my mind but over the years, it grew louder, bolder, until it became a roaring storm I could no longer ignore.
I remembered the night it all changed. The night he came to me.
Hades.
It was during the anniversary of the King and Queen’s union. A grand affair, with nobles and royals in attendance. That night, while everyone danced and drank, I’d stepped out for air, retreating into the garden behind the palace.
The night had been still when I felt dizzy and like in a trance… I saw the skies split open.
A thick, black mist rolled in like smoke, extinguishing the stars. The moon turned red.
Then I saw him descending slowly, a towering figure cloaked in darkness. His skin was ashen, and his eyes… his eyes were bottomless pits of shadow. He reeked of dread and ruin. My breath caught. Every instinct in me screamed to run, but my legs refused to move.
I knew instantly who it was.
Hades of the underworld. The evil deity who helped Pison become King and corrupted him into madness.
He should have terrified me. I should have turned the other way.
But instead… something in me stirred. A hunger. A desperate, shameful desire.
He spoke, not with thunder or rage but with a deep, resonant calm.
“I see you, Adonis,” he said. “I see your desire.”
With one flick of his fingers, the mist around us shifted, revealing a vision so vivid it stole my breath.
I saw myself seated on the throne. My crown was black as midnight, and Lady Beauty sat at my side, radiant and regal.
The royal court bowed, chanting our praise. The realm was mine.
“This is your future,” Hades said. “And I will give it to you. All of it; power, glory and riches. In return, all I ask… is your devotion.”
My knees hit the grass before I even realized what I was doing. “I am yours,” I whispered.
When I blinked, I was back in the garden. The stars had returned. The music from the ballroom floated out again. But everything had changed.
I had changed.
When I told my wife, she resisted. Beauty wanted no part of it. She called it madness, evil… But the Queen had also grown cold toward her, and she grew tired of being treated like an afterthought.
Eventually, she came around.
That was when I began to plan quietly. At royal dinners and council meetings, I would speak about how perfect Zion and Celeste would be together— how their union would stabilize the realm.
The King and Queen were pleased by the idea. They laughed, joked and encouraged our children’s friendship.
I knew what I was doing. I was crafting a future. One I would control.
Over the years, I worked in silence. Using my influence, I infiltrated the strong pillars of the realm and reached out to members of Pison’s fallen circle.
Not all of them were dead, or lost in the human realm. Some were simply… waiting.
Waiting for someone with vision.
Someone like me.
And then, Hades appeared to me once more. This time, not in smoke but in a dream. He told me the Moon Goddess had paired Zion with Lily; the monster’s seed.
He snarled her name with venom. “She is the final obstacle. Remove her, and the crown is yours.”
So I did what needed to be done.
I had to get her out of the palace before their sixteenth birthday. I used the white noctar.
A rare, illegal substance that could suppress a wolf’s bond, blur memories, and enrage their instincts.
Twice I dosed Lily with it, and twice she lived, only creating havoc.
That brat was tougher than I thought.
Thamorum, the royal’s most trusted warrior and my loyal spy, even smuggled the noctar into the palace and handed it to my daughter. She had hesitated, but I reminded her of her training, her purpose. That girl was born to be Queen.
So she did it. She threw the liquid in Zion’s face that night, and his beast went blank that night… and she was able to sleep with him.
Everything was on track.
But now… now they’ve started to suspect.
Thamorum even said that Zion and that peasant girl were onto me.
Usually, I would have wanted them to come so I’d set a trap for them. But I couldn’t wait any longer… the king was unbending, and the blood moon was too far. If I wait, the royals might discover more.
I picked up the telephone on my desk, and dialed. When the receiver picked, I muttered “Tell the inner circle,” I said, my voice calm and deadly. “We’re doing it tonight. We can’t wait until the blood moon.”
The King will fall.
And I will rise.
