(Lily’s POV)
My breathing was shallow as I tossed restlessly on the bed. Sweat clung to my forehead, my sheets tangled around my legs. In the dream, I was running…no…fighting.
Fighting in the middle of the palace.
The walls were in ruins, dust, fire and ash in the air. Swords clashed and blood painted the stone tiles.
My friends were behind me; Aria’s hair was matted to her face in sweat, Dev snarling as he took down another warrior, Tobe crouched and ready.
And then, I saw him.
Celeste’s father.
He stood tall, eyes dark with power, his blade dripping red. Behind him, more hooded figures kept pouring in. They had overrun the palace.
Aunt Lamia was up ahead, her arms raised to the moon above, whispering words I couldn’t hear. Power swirled around her, silver and blinding…
Tap. Tap. Tap.
My eyes snapped open.
Aunt Lamia was at my side, her eyes wide with urgency. “Lily,” she said quickly, “wake up. The palace is under attack.”
My breath caught.
Then I heard it, outside the walls. The screams, roar, sound of bodies slamming against the marble floors, swords clashing, ripping fabric, growls and commands.
Aunt Lamia grabbed my wrist, pulling me from the bed as I scrambled to steady myself. “We have to move, now.”
We ran down the hallway, barefoot, my heart pounding in rhythm with the chaos around us. The ground quaked beneath our feet, and the smell of smoke and blood curled into the corridor.
Then the doors burst open.
There were three warriors, dressed in royal armor. At their front was Thamorum. I remembered him as one of the men Zion introduced to me when we were still in good terms.
I froze.
“We were sent to protect you,” he said, his voice calm, like the world wasn’t collapsing. “The Prince gave orders. Come with us.”
Aunt Lamia hesitated. I could feel the magic buzzing in her fingertips, the way her hand flexed at her side. But she looked at me and when I nodded, she sighed “Fine.”
We followed them, running past the rooma and bloodstained halls.
But something felt off.
Instead of leading us out… They led us straight to the throne room, into the heart of the battle.
The roof was in ruins with some hooded figure creeping in through the walls.
Moonlight poured in through the shattered roof, and warriors fought in every direction. The King was locked in a deadly duel with Celeste’s father. The Queen and Lady Beauty also spun and struck at each other.
Zion was there too—fighting off three, no, four hooded men at once, he seemed to be in control even though he was outnumbered. He was bleeding from a cut at his temple, but still moving like a storm.
Zelda’s voice rang through the chaos as she wrestled with Celeste, the two girls dueling fiercely. My gaze jerked toward the platform where the throne once stood.
And then everything slowed…
Celeste’s father was no longer fighting the King.
He was standing behind me.
I didn’t see him move. I only felt the cold tip of the dagger at my neck.
“Don’t move,” he hissed, “Or I’ll slit her throat.”
Every sound seemed to disappear.
Zion froze mid-swing with the hooded figure he was lifting up.
“Don’t!” Zion barked, but Celeste’s father only pressed the dagger harder. My knees trembled.
“Don’t dare me, I’ll do it,” he said coldly “This is a blade from the Omnaki Cave. One cut and she dies, slowly.”
The King stopped. Even the Queen lowered her hand, horror widening her eyes.
“No,” Zelda whispered. “Lily…”
“Everyone. Surrender now,” Lord Adonis barked. “Or I’ll spill her blood on these very stones.”
One by one, they obeyed. From Aunt Lamia, to my friends, to the King, Queen, Zelda and Zion, they all obeyed. Zion was the last to give in… saw Zion’s hands trembled. He looked broken.
My heart cracked.
Celeste’s father smiled cruelly. “Now, Zion,” he said. “You will marry my daughter right here, right now.”
My chest squeezed. “No…” I whispered.
Two men stepped forward from the shadows. They pulled off their hoods.
My mouth fell open.
Principal Thamior and Kade.
They were part of this? Celeste stepped up beside her father, blood smeared across her cheek but her smile was triumphant.
A silver bowl was placed at the center of the platform. Runes glowed at its edges.
The Marriage Binding Bowl.
“No,” I said louder. “Please…”
Zion’s face twisted in rage. “You’re insane.”
Celeste’s father tilted his head. “Either you marry her… or I end Lily’s life in front of everyone.”
I felt Ravena scream within me.
Vaelith growled like thunder.
My power surged, butI couldn’t move. Not with the dagger so close.
Zion looked at me, then at the blade, then back at me. His lips trembled. For the first time, he was scared.
He took a step forward.
“No,” I begged. “Zion, don’t—”
But the ritual was already beginning.
Celeste extended her hand. Zion didn’t move.
The runes on the bowl began to glow brighter.
I looked around. No one moved. My loved ones were trapped behind the enemy lines.
Aunt Lamia was held back by two hooded figures.
And me?
I was one breath away from death.
Or worse— watching the love of my life be bound to another.
