                    (Zion’s POV)
Lucien said I needed to act like humans, and use a private jet when coming to their realm. He had further said that coming in such grand-style would be fit for the new Billionaire CEO.
As I stared out at the city skyline. I couldn't help but wonder why over the years Lucien replied my messages curtly and coldly, like we had a major rift in our relationship. He is only being nice to me because the king asked that he supports me in this mission.
It's the reason he is responding to my messages.
I sighed just as the jet landed, and suddenly Ragnar leapt inside me.
“Our mate's here,” he growled. “She’s in this realm.”
My heart thumped against its chest.
I had a mate? And worse, a human maybe?
"You must be wrong. We are married, and mateless. We can't have a mate from this realm." I chided him but Ragnar wouldn’t stay calm. He kept pacing in circles, tail high.
Lucien stood near the car with a tight-lipped smile.
"Hi," he said but I pulled him into a hug. His rigid body slowly relaxed against mine.
"I missed you, Cousin." I said and he tilted his head in disbelief before leading the way. We slid into the backseat of the car.
Lucien was quiet for a while. He typed something quickly on his phone, then leaned back, sighing. He didn’t say much, but his silence was uncomfortable. It felt like a wall stood between us.
“I can tell you’re mad at me,” I said softly.
He chuckled, low and bitter. “You think?”
There was a beat of silence before he added, “You must have forgotten what you did to me in school, right?'
I turned to him in confusion “What?”
He glanced at me sideways. “Seriously? You forgot?”
“I don’t—” I started, but he cut me off.
“The fight,” he said. “The one that wrecked the school buildings. You don’t remember?”
A flash of pictures blurred in my memory... the cracked walls, and a female's plea.
Ragnar—lunging forward and hitting Lucien's beast.
“I… I,” I stuttered to ask why we fought when Lucien shrugged “Doesn’t matter anymore. We’re now mature men. I forgive you, Zion.”
Then he leaned forward and tapped the driver’s shoulder. “We’ll be heading straight to the company. The board of directors wants to meet the new CEO as soon as possible.”
“Wow” I blinked. “Already?”
Lucien smirked mischievously “And that's not all...” he added, “Tonight, there'll be a grand party for you. To announce your position officially, and publicly."
My jaw tightened in surprise. “You planned all this in a two days?”
He grinned widely “I’ve had five years of experience. I know how things work here.”
I exhaled slowly, watching the city fly past. I was ready to experience the new world. Everything may be happening fast but the sooner I complete my task, the sooner I'll be able to return home.
The car slowed as we approached a massive glass skyscraper. The name etched in gold letters across the front: VIRELUX CORPORATION.
It was sleek, and intimidating. “We specialize in mining rare stones, textile materials, and lifestyle branding. Virelux Corporation runs most of the global fashion network,” Lucien said proudly. “… Design houses compete just to be partner with us. Humans, and some of our people here absolutely adore our works.”
I nodded slowly.
Lucien continued, “But we may stayed mysterious for years as to hiding our leadership board from the mass but tonight everything changes. The world will see you and put your face to the company.”
We stepped out of the car and were ushered into the building. Everything moved quickly, but I kept my composure. The walls of the lobby shimmered with light, and the elevator ride to the top floor was silent but heavy with tension.
When we entered the boardroom, I instantly noticed the energy shift. About half of the shareholders seated at the grand table were werewolves. I could sense it... their instincts, the flickers of gold in their eyes. Some sized me up, measuring my confidence, waiting for me to slip.
I didn’t.
I moved with calm, quiet dominance and greeted them all with a slight nod before taking my place at the head of the table.
They waited.
“I am Zion, your new CEO...” I said, my voice low but sharp. “You can either chose to work with me or go through the exit door."
That was all it took. The room straightened, ears perked. I had their attention.
The rest of the meeting was smooth. Lucien answered a few policy questions, and I clarified some strategic goals. The shareholders nodded in approval, though a few still watched me like I was a puzzle they hadn’t solved yet.
After the meeting, Lucien looked proud. Even if he didn’t say it out loud, I saw it in the way he clapped my shoulder as we walked out.
“We’ll head to my place now, so we can get ready for tonight.” he said and I nodded. We were almost at the car when his phone rang, he stepped aside to answer it...
I wasn't going to eavesdrop but Ragnar picked a name:
“Aria.”
I paused.
Aria?
Was that his girlfriend? Or… his mate?
I tilted my head slightly, curiosity pricking at my thoughts.
When Lucien returned, his cheeks were pink, and he avoided my gaze. I smirked but said nothing. I'd tease him about it later.
We arrived at his sleek, modern home; clean walls, simple chandelier and soft lighting. As night fell, preparations for the party kicked into motion. Lucien had a fashion tailor arrive with a rack of designer suits, each more exquisite than the last.
After several trials, we settled on a midnight-black suit tailored to perfection. It hugged my shoulders, chests, with silver-threaded embroidery that shimmered faintly under light. Underneath, a black silk shirt and no tie. It was bold, and regal.
Then my cousin helped me accessorize with a luxury wristwatch, and a cufflink bearing the logo of Virelux. He gave a nod of approval before we stepped out.
The ride to Dela Creme Hotel; one of the company’s hotels was smooth. There were cameras and paparazzi when we arrived but Lucien led me through a side entrance guarded by human bodyguards.
We entered a private elevator and ascended in silence.
The moment we stepped out and walked a few steps into the grand lobby, it happened.
A figure collided into me... it was soft, fast, and unexpected.
The woman stumbled, and I instinctively reached out to steady her. My hand gripped her tender waist as her fingers clutched my chest for balance.
When Ragnar howled inside me.
“MATE!”
She looked up, her soft lavender scent hitting me like a wave...
My breath hitched.
