                    (Lily's POV)
CRASH!
The tray of glasses exploded against the marble floor. Gasps rippled across the crowd, heads turned, and every eye landed on me.
My cheeks burned, not just from the fall, but from him. I could still feel Zion’s eyes on me like they were following me even as I tried to disappear.
“I'm so sorry," I blurted out, my voice shaking as I turned to the waiter. My dress was drenched and clung to my skin, and the sting of embarrassment felt worse than the champagne soaking through the fabric.
The waiter gave a stiff smile and mumbled something I didn’t catch.
Then Aria appeared, grabbing my hand firmly but gently.
"Come on," she whispered before leading me past the whispers, the curious glances, and into the quieter hallway. We didn’t speak until we reached the restroom.
Once inside, she pulled tissues from the dispenser and began dabbing at my dress.
I stood there, frozen. My mind spinning.
"Why is he here?" I cried, "And how the hell is he the CEO of the one company i’ve been trying to work with?" My body trembled from the effort it took not to scream.
Aria stepped closer and placed a hand on my arm. Her touch was soft.
"I know this is a lot, but breathe. I’m here." She murmured, her voice calm.
I didn’t answer. My jaw was clenched so tight it hurt.
"You’re not alone, Lily," she said gently. "It’s going to be okay. We’ll figure it out. I promise."
I wanted to believe her. Her voice was soft, soothing. The kind of calm I needed to cling to in that moment but I just couldn’t.
Because I was the only one who knew the truth.
Aunt Lamia’s spell worked. Zion should have no memory of me, or what we had. No memory of the sweet nights, the smiles, the life we shared. To him, I should be just a stranger.
But spells could fade. What if... if somehow, soon, he remembers the truth…
Then everything I had protected would be at risk.
My children; Lamia and Zeus…
He couldn’t meet them. Not now. Not ever. They couldn’t be dragged into that world… not the palace, not the power games of the inner circle. They belonged to me, safe here in the human realm.
"Lily?" Aria's voice pulled me back.
I looked up slowly.
"Do you want to go back out?" she asked carefully, her eyes searching mine.
I shook my head immediately. "No. I want to leave. I can’t stay here."
She bit her bottom lip and nodded. "Okay... but give me five minutes, there’s someone I need to talk to first."
I hesitated. There she goes again. Who is the someone she needs to talk to?
I nodded my head. "Okay, you can go. I’ll be waiting for you at the rooftop, and then we can go home together.”
"Thanks," she responded, and I followed her through the hallway. We went our separate ways as she headed back toward the party, while I made my way to the quiet balcony of the rooftop.
The noise from the party had faded behind me, replaced by the soft hum of distant music and night wind. I pushed open a door on my own and stepped out onto the balcony. The city spread out before me in glowing waves.
I walked toward the railing slowly as I beheld the bright lights of the city blinking below, cars crawled like tiny insects along the road…
I crossed my arms, more out of instinct than cold, and stared out… letting the silence wrap around me.
And then the memories came flooding.
Zion’s kisses when we were on the cliff… how he pulled me on top his laps at the cafeteria and whispered dirty words.. how he sneaked into my room just to make love to me..
His promises... His warmth.
Everything we had... Everything we lost.
Will Lamia and Zeus ever get to know what it feels like to have a father? Will they grow up asking questions I can't answer?
I pressed my lips together as my chest ached. That little girl in me, the one who once dreamed of a home filled with love, and laughter was in so much sorrow. Will my children have an incomplete family like I did?
The weight of it all pressed down on me.
I tried to breathe through it, to blink it away but the thoughts wouldn’t stop.
What if he remembers? Would he try to come back? Would he want to be part of our lives?
And if he did… could I ever let him in, knowing what’s at stake?
I wrapped my arms tighter around myself, crying softly. Everything hurt so much…
That was when I heard his voice.
“Beautiful view, isn’t it?”
I froze.
His voice was deeper than I remembered. It rolled through me like a wave, knocking the breath out of my lungs.
He was here.
I wiped at my cheeks quickly, angry at the tears. Angry at the shaking of my hands.
I turned slowly, and there he was.
Standing a few feet away, his expression unreadable. He didn’t look like the boy I remembered. He looked like a man who’d walked through fire and come out colder.
But his eyes...
Those eyes hadn’t changed.
And they were staring right at me.
