(Zelda’s POV)
I didn’t sleep a wink the night before.
The excitement of finally going to the human realm made me too happy. I tossed, fluffed my pillows, and tried reading a book but sleep refused to come.
My mind was filled with thoughts of seeing my big brother again, of rebuilding the bond that thinned after he married Celeste.
Things were never the same again, as Celeste told me to stop coming to their wing in the palace. She said I was childish and needed to grow up.
I respected her wishes but it hurt. Zion and I used to be inseparable… I missed us terribly.
The next morning I boarded the private jet. The flight was quick, and smooth. When we landed, I sprang to my feet, practically vibrating with joy.
The moment I stepped out, I spotted a sleek black Rolls-Royce parked neatly at the curb. And there they were; Zion and Lucien.
"Freedom at last!" I cried, throwing my hands up as I raced down the steps to meet them.
“Missed me?” I asked playfully as I approached them.
Lucien grinned and opened his arms wide. “Oh, my my… Taller than the last time I saw you," he teased as we hugged.
Zion stepped forward as I turned to him. I hugged him tightly, and for a second, he hesitated before hugging me back just as tightly.
Then he ruffled my hair playfully like he used to, and I ran to Lucien, who smiled and led me to the car.
Lucien nudged me gently. "So, any grand plans now that you're here?"
I giggled, nudging his shoulder. "Oh, you have no idea. I’ve got a list in my head already. I’m not just going to sit around doing nothing—no way."
There were memories to be made, people to meet, and fun experiences to have.
We chatted on the ride home. I asked a million questions, Lucien gave more answers and sometimes, deflected with jokes. It only made me more curious. Zion just drove in silence, but seeing him through the rearview mirror, I knew he was happy. He had a smile on his face.
When we got to the house, the staff came to carry my luggage, and the guys said their goodbyes before heading to the office. The house was modern, elegant, and nothing like the palace, which made it perfect. I was shown to my room and left alone to settle in.
After a refreshing shower, I laid on the bed but didn’t feel like resting. My beast; Keira was as excited as I am. I decided to explore.
Instead of asking for a driver, I wanted to try public transport. Mixing with the humans sounded like an adventure. I changed into casual wear, grabbed a crossbody bag, and walked down the street toward the nearest bus station.
That was when I bumped into her.
A beautiful, dark-skinned girl with glassy skin was walking out of the gate of the next house. We almost bumped into each other
"Oh! Sorry," I said, steadying myself.
She smiled warmly. "My bad. Do you live around here?"
"Yeah, just moved in today," I said, pointing to the house.
She followed my finger and pointed to hers. "No way! I'm right next door. How have we not met before?"
"I’m new here. Just got here this morning."
“Well, welcome! I'm Rose." she said.
"Zelda. It's nice to meet you," I replied, and we shook hands.
Then ahw glanced at my outfit and the bag over my shoulder. "Heading somewhere?"
"Yeah, I’m actually going to the mall. Do you know where an Exquisite Shopping Mall is?"
Her eyes lit up. "Perfect! That’s exactly where I’m headed. Come on, I’ll show you the best route."
We chatted easily as we waited for the bus, then found seats together once it arrived. She was lively, funny, and knew the area like the back of her hand.
At the mall, we tried on clothes, laughed over ridiculous price tags, and shared thoughts on styles. Rose was into bold colors; I liked soft colors. We made a great shopping team.
“There’s a party tonight,” she said casually while picking out a pair of earrings. “Red Hearts Club.”
I tilted my head. “Sounds fun.”
“You should come with me.”
I grinned. “Say no more. I’m in.”
After paying for our items, we headed home, agreeing to meet later that evening.
Once home, I arranged my new clothes in the wardrobe and took a short nap. By sunset, I was up. Zion and Lucien weren’t back from the office and I couldn't wait anymore. I dressed up and went to Rose's apartment. She opened the door, stunning in a red dress. I wore a black short dress.
She gave me a ride in her car. Her driver was respectful, and soon we were on our way to Red Hearts Club.
The place was packed. Lights flashed, music pounded, and the air pulsed with energy. The moment we stepped inside, my beast stirred with excitement.
"Mate... he's here."
My breath hitched as the sweetest wood fragrance wrapped around me like a warm blanket. I sniffed the air, trying to trace it.
Then my eyes landed on him; a man already watching me from across the club.
He was in the company of three other men, in the VIP section. The three of them were dressed in jeans, polos, and sneakers, effortlessly blending in with the crowd. They leaned in close, talking in low tones, sipping from half-filled wine glasses. Though casual in appearance, they carried an air of quiet strength.
But the fourth man, whose gaze met mine, was different.
He wore a well-fitted dark suit that hugged his broad shoulders and tapered down perfectly. He sat back with ease, eyes alert but relaxed, as though everything around him danced to his rhythm.
His face was a perfect blend of sharp edges and softness—full lips, strong jawline, and dark, piercing eyes that didn’t just glance, they lingered. He was strikingly handsome. The kind of man who could silence a room without trying.
Rose and I grabbed drinks, laughed, and made some light conversation with some persons whom we shared a table with.
After a couple of rounds, Rose made her way to the restroom while I headed for the dance floor. But I couldn’t tear my gaze away from his. I was tipsy in a good way. My limbs loosened, and I moved to the rhythm with confidence.
The more we locked eyes, the more I moved, swaying my hips in slow, sultry circles, letting my hands trail down my sides as I dipped and turned with each beat. My body rolled like waves in rhythm, my hair flipping back with every sway of my waist. I danced like no one was watching, yet I knew he was.
My body moved on its own.. As though to please him.
All of a sudden, I felt a man's hands on my waist and from the corner of my eyes, My mate immediately stood up and walked toward me.
The look in his eyes like a predator unnerved me but I continued dancing still.
A chill ran through me… no, a spark as he got to a few feet before me. My beast stirred, again.
“It’s really him,” she whispered. “Our mate.”
My breath caught.
