Tango HATES coffee. He always had, it's no secret to anyone he knows. So what is he doing at a coffee shop?
Well..
Tango is panicking as he is looking for his bag for college. He is running very late so he is scrambling to find his things. The last thing he needs is to be late and lose his scholarship.
He finds the things and runs out with barely a glance behind him. When the campus sign comes into view he dashes even faster, not paying attention to the innocent bystander in his path.
*CRASH*
Tango bumps into someone and falls to the ground. The person he bumped into turns around and offers a hand to Tango.
"Are you alright?" The person asks.
Tango looks up at them, this person has white fluffy hair held back with a headband. They have heterochromia, a red and gray eye. The last thing Tango notices is that he is wearing a mask...in the middle of summer.
Tango nods, accepting the offered hand. "Thanks. Are you ok?" He asks, dusting himself off.
"I'm not ok, I'm Etho!" The guy jokes.
Tango blinks, confused until he realized that this guy was giving him his name.
"Oh-" Tango laughs. "I'm Tango"
"Nice to meet ya," Etho says, offering an awkward handshake. "What's your major?" He then asks, noticing the papers that Tango is carrying.
"I'm taking engineering classes...." Tango suddenly remembers. "..That I'm late for!!!" Tango runs off.
Etho laughs until he sees Tango accidentally left a paper. Etho picks it up and looks to see if Tango is near but he is not.
Maybe two days later Etho spots Tango being scolded by a teacher.
"I-I'm sorry! I-I don't know where it is...!" Tango mutters. His voice is raspy and quiet, he looks like he's going to cry.
The teacher sighs, "Please do your best to stay on track for next year."
"Yeah," one of the girls in the class adds. "You're going to get yourself in trouble again"
Tango just gives them sad eyes.
Etho walks over and wraps his arm around Tango's shoulder.
"Hey, this is yours," Etho says as he holds out a paper to Tango.
Tango looks at the paper and his whole face lights up.
"Y-You found it!!!" Tango says excitedly as he grabs the paper. "H-Here it is...I-I guess I must have dropped it somewhere" Tango apologizes as he hands the paper to the teacher. The teacher takes it and just walks into their classroom.
Tango squeals happily and hugs Etho tightly.
"Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!" Tango says happily.
Etho hugs Tango back softly. "It's no problem."
Tango looks up at Etho and blushes out of embarrassment. He lets go of Etho. "Sorry" Tango murmurs.
Etho giggles gently. "No need to apologize" He assures Tango. "Here. If it happens again." Etho writes something and hands it to Tango. "See you later!" Etho says and walks off.
Tango stares at the note in confusion before looking down at it. The note has a phone number on it.
Tango's face lights up.
So, it's been a year...
Tango and Etho are hanging out at the park.
"Hey Tango? Guess who got a new job?" Etho looks at Tango.
Tango grins at Etho.
"I'm guessing it's you."
Etho laughs.
"Yup! I work at the coffee shop across from the dorms!" Etho says excitedly. "I get coffee 50% off and it's great!" Etho brags.
Tango internally is disgusted but he smiles more. "You and your coffee" Tango laughs.
"You'll have to come to visit sometime!" Etho says happily.
"I'll make sure to do that, Etho." Tango replies.
He did exactly that.
Tango walks into the coffee shop and sees Etho behind the counter.
"Oh my gosh, Tango!!" Etho says cheerfully as he waves at Tango.
Tango smiles brightly when he sees Etho. "Hey Etho." Tango waves back before walking over to the cash register.
"So! What would you like today?" Etho tilts his head.
"Uh....surprise me" Tango answers painfully, since he hates coffee.
"Alright..." Etho hums. He goes about making coffee. Etho puts some cream in a cup for Tango. Then he puts the lid on and hands the coffee over to Tango. Tango takes it and takes a sip. He tries to hold back a sour face and just grins at Etho.
"It's good.." Tango smiles more.
Etho's face lights up.
It's their last year of college and every day since the first time Tango went to see Etho at his job, he's been at the coffee shop. He didn't do it because he realized coffee was actually good. No, it was because Tango fell in love with Etho and loved seeing him every day.
Tango is currently sipping on the coffee he tolerates as he talks with Etho on his break.
"Can you come to the park after class today?" Etho asks. He sounds hesitant.
"I'll be there, Etho." Tango promises. Etho beams in response and they continue chatting.
When they meet at the park, the sun is setting.
No one is outside though because it's freezing cold and there are 6 inches of snow on the ground.
Tango immediately puts his scarf on as he sits down next to Etho. Etho looks at Tango and takes off his mask.
Tango looks at Etho and his cheeks go pink, he's never seen Etho without his mask before.
"Whatcha staring at?" Etho smirks and Tango feels his heart flutter.
Tango looks away quickly, his cheeks turning redder. He clears his throat. "I just...I've never seen you without your mask before" Tango admits sheepishly.
Etho chuckles and slowly slides his hand closer to Tango's. He rests his hand on top of Tango's hand softly as Tango reciprocates the action by intertwining their hands. Tango slides closer to Etho. Their faces are only inches apart now. Etho's other hand slides up to cup Tango's cheek softly. Tango closes his eyes and leans into Etho.
Then Etho kisses him. Tango returns the kiss and rests his hand on Etho's arm. He pulls Etho closer until they are chest-to-chest. He can feel Etho smiling into the kiss.
They finally pull apart to catch their breath, Etho's hand still resting on the side of Tango's face.
"So....how long have you wanted to do that?" Tango asks quietly.
Etho grins shyly. "Two years," Etho responds.
Tango smiles and hugs Etho tightly.
"Tango...will you go out with me?" Etho asks quietly.
"I'd love to, Etho" Tango answers, his cheeks turning a bright scarlet.
Etho hugs Tango tighter and doesn't let go for a good 20 minutes.
Tango and Etho have been going out for 7 months now and they decide to get an apartment together.
"Ethooo...!!!! I need your height!" Tango complains as he tries to put a shelf up on the wall.
Etho chuckles places the last box from the truck down and walks over to Tango then easily puts the shelf up.
Tango turns around and looks at Etho. "Why are you so perfect?"
Etho laughs. "I'm not perfect Tango."
Tango chuckles. He leans forward and presses his lips against Ethos.
"You are, Etho" Tango whispers.
Etho smiles and cups Tango's face gently. He then kisses Tango back. Tango grins and holds onto Etho.
Etho pulls away and turns on some music. "May I have this dance~?" Etho giggles.
"Of course." Tango wraps his arms around Etho's neck as Etho holds his waist. They gently sway side to side as the air from their open windows flows in, they hear birds chirping. Nothing could be more peaceful than this autumn afternoon. Tango lays his head on Etho's shoulder as they dance slowly. Etho runs his fingers through Tango's hair.
"I love you Etho.." Tango speaks softly as Etho stops dancing with Tango, he gently lifts Tango's chin up to look at him. "I love you too Tango.." Etho whispers as he kisses Tango as he m tightens his grip on Tango's hips. Tango wraps his arms around Etho's neck. He brings himself closer and deepens the kiss between them. They continue to kiss softly as the rest of the world fades away and all they are focused on is each other. As the song ends, both of them lean their foreheads together.
Etho opens his eyes and sees a very happy Tango in front of him. He smiles happily. "Let's finish unpacking before we get lazy and it gets pushed back another week." Etho laughs.
Tango agrees and they continue unloading the boxes. After a while, the boxes are all empty. Tango looks at Etho sadly and then sighs as he stands up.
"What's wrong, Tango?" Etho asks confused.
"Nothing" Tango smiles weakly.
Etho nods. "Come here-" He pulls Tango close and tucks Tango's head under his chin. "You know you can talk to me right?"
Tango nods. "I know" Tango mumbles.
"You can tell me anything. Even if it's silly." Etho says quietly, stroking Tango's hair gently.
Tango smiles sadly. "I just miss....my old place. I'm glad I'm with you but being there was always fun, my neighbors were great and the landlord was like a dad to me." Tango lets out a small chuckle.
"I miss living there, Etho" Tango continues.
Etho kisses Tango's head. "I know baby...but it was too small for both of us."
Tango sighs and hugs Etho.
"I'm just happy to be with you," Tango mutters.
Etho nuzzles his nose against Tango's. "Me too".
Tango smiles and then looks around the room again. There are tons of pictures of the two of them scattered across the walls, there's a picture that is of them at the mall in a cute pair of beanie hats that match. There are also pictures where they took selfies at the beach during spring break. The most important photo is above their bedroom door, it's their first dance together the year they started dating. Tango smiles softly. "I love you...so much Etho" Tango murmurs as he buries his head in Etho's neck.
Etho nuzzles Tango's head softly before kissing the top of his head. "I love you too, Tango".
They stay like that for a while.
*3 years later*
"Etho!!!! You are so mean!" Tango pouts as Etho holds his phone above his head teasingly.
"You deserve this!" Etho giggles and pours a water bottle over Tango's head. He starts chasing Etho around their apartment.
"No!! Ethoo!!! Get back here!!" Tango shrieks laughing.
They run all over the apartment trying to catch their breaths. Tango catches him and jumps on top of him. They lay tangled up on the floor as they laugh.
"Oh no! You caught me!" Etho says in a fake defeated tone.
Tango rolls his eyes fondly and leans down to plant a kiss on Etho's lips. Etho hums happily and flips them. He starts tickling Tango.
Tango squeals and starts struggling in Etho's arms. His face is flushed red and tears well up in his eyes.
"Alright, alright! I give!!" Tango whines between laughs.
Etho sits up and looks down at Tango. His gaze softens as he stares at Tango's happy, currently laughing face.
Damn...he loves that man.
Tango catches sight of the fond look in Etho's eyes and he smiles widely.
"I want to go to the park tomorrow for our anniversary," Tango whispers.
A big grin grows on Etho's face and he squeezes Tango tightly. "Ok. We can do that."
Tango pulls Etho to the park as he holds his hand tightly. The cold air hits Etho's body making him smile. It's snowing outside.
Tango leads them to the playground. They sit on one of the swings and kick their feet off the edge, swinging back and forth. Etho watches Tango swing back and forth. He reaches down into his pocket and grips something tightly. Etho takes a shaky breath and looks up to Tango who is currently grinning ear to ear, unaware of Etho.
As soon as he feels ready, Etho gets off the swing and stands in front of Tango.
Tango stops swinging and tilts his head at Etho.
Etho takes a breath and gets on one knee.
"Tango...will you marry me?" Etho mutters as he opens the ring box.
Tango's jaw drops in shock and he stares down at Etho with wide eyes. Tears start spilling out and he wipes his cheek frantically.
Etho swallows hard and pushes the ring box towards Tango, who's staring down at the ring in surprise.
Tango takes the ring out of the box and carefully examines the beautiful gold band with little gemstones embedded around the band.
"Etho..." Tango breathes. "O-Of course."
Etho smiles brightly and wipes the falling tears off his face. He stands up and engulfs Tango in a hug. "I love you..." Etho whispers into Tango's ear. "Thank you for giving me everything I ever wanted and even more..." Etho smiles as he hears soft sniffling noises coming from Tango.
Etho takes Tango's hand and slides the ring on his finger.
Tango blushes and hugs Etho more. "I love you...I can't believe you asked me."
"I can't live without you," Etho says smiling happily.
Tango laughs softly as Etho pulls out of the hug. "So sappy"
"Shut up.." Etho chuckles.
Tango smiles wider.
"Let's go home...we have some planning to do." Tango grins as he pulls Etho home as the sun sets.
