"Get your hands off of me!!!" Etho yells as two angel like people drag him down the hall of a castle. He fights against their grip, kicking his heels at them to keep himself out of reach, but they hold on tighter. The more he struggles, though, the harder they dig into his skin with long fingernails. "Please let go, I can't stand it!!" He yells, finally giving up after several failed attempts at escape.
Soon, they get to a large door, and the two angels throw Etho in front of the door. "Go in. He is waiting." The one angel says. They disappear back into the hallway without another word. The other angel pushes Etho forward, and he walks inside. It's a throne room, with large purpur pillars and quarts walls, the floor is made of marble.
"Walk straight. He will be at the end of the room." The second angel says and leaves Etho in the room.
Etho walks forward deeper into the room when he spots a large throne. He sees a small man sitting on the throne, one leg on top of the other. He has a crown that's not on properly and a mask over his eyes with a strange symbol on it. The man has purple wings with...eyes on them. He sits tall and regal looking. "Well, look who decided to show up," the man drawls lazily. Etho flinches and looks away from him. The man lets out an amused laugh, "Come here. Sit." The man says as he points to the floor in front of his throne. Etho does as told. There's something about his voice that makes Etho want to obey his every command, but he doesn't understand why.
Etho sits on his knees in front of the throne.
The man uses his finger to tilt Etho's head up to look at him.
"Tell me your name." He grins.
"It's Etho." Etho whispers.
"Well, Etho, you are here for a special reason. You have been chosen to be my personal guard. You will accompany me wherever I travel, do anything and everything for me. That includes protecting me from other angels, demons, and even humans, of course. You must also obey all of my commands and follow through with any request I make, regardless if it's reasonable or unreasonable."
Etho looks shocked.
"And..my names, Grian." Grian says as he gently lets Etho lower his head.
"Why me..?" Etho looks at Grian.
"Because I have been watching you for some time now." Grian responds and smiles softly. "Do not worry, I will take care of you.''
Grian moves his hand to Etho's cheek. His fingers caress his face slowly and gently. A shiver runs down Etho's spine. Grian leans in closer until there's only inches between them. "I promise I'll always protect you. From anyone who tries to hurt you. I expect you to do the same." Grian whispers and traces his thumb over Etho's cheek.
Etho feels weak. He leans his head into Grian's hand subconsciously.
Grian smirks and slowly pulls his hand away.
"Here. Accompany me to my dining area." Grian says and stands up. He puts out his hand, and Etho grabs it gently.
As they walk down the hall, Etho looks Everything is decorated beautifully. In fact, the whole room is decorated beautifully. All kinds of crystals dangle from the ceiling, and there are beautiful patterns of flowers etched into the stone walls. Grian leads him through halls lined with portraits of different angels.
Soon, they get to a door.
Grian opens the door, and it leads to a large dining area.
Grian walks in, and two people run to Grian and Etho, both bow to Grian.
"Etho. This is Pearl and BigB. They always watch." Grian grins, and the two angels giggle.
"We're always watching," Pearl grins.
"Always watching," BigB agrees, and they both run off. Their laughter echoes around the room before disappearing completely.
"Sit here." Grian motions towards one of the empty seats next to him at the table. Etho nods and walks towards the seat.
"What's the eye mask for..?" Etho asks.
Grian seems surprised by the question.
"It's a tradition. I don't have to wear it all the time, but it prefer it." Grian answers and sits.
Etho nods.
Grian pets Etho's head gently. Etho's cheeks go pink, and he leans into Grian's hand. "You are very soft and fluffy. What are you made of?" Grian murmurs.
"Um.." Etho stammers.
"Are you made from sugar?"
"No...?" Etho mumbles.
"Oh, then what are you made out of?" Grian continues to pet his head.
"Uh..acids...and proteins..?" Etho answers.
"Humans are interesting," Grian says and tilts Etho's head to the side. He studies Etho's face.
"Your face is very cute." Grian smiles slightly.
Etho blushes again.
"Don't worry, I'm not gonna bite~" Grian laughs lightly.
Grian picks up Etho's left arm, placing it delicately on his lap and playing with Etho's hair. Etho leans into Grian's hand once again. He looks up at Grian and finds a fond smile on Grian's face. Grian notices Etho staring at him and flashes him an amused smile. "What?" He asks.
Etho's face gets hot. "Nothing." Etho glances away. Before Grian can speak again, a few angel butlers fly in with food. They place food on the table. The butler places the plates in front of them and bows deeply. Grian pays them no mind and turns to Etho. "Go on, eat. I am sure you're hungry."
Etho hesitantly takes a spoonful of soup and brings it to his mouth and eats it. Grian watches him intently until the bowl is empty.
"Was it good? I don't normally eat the food made by my chefs." Grian admits sheepishly.
"It was really good. Thank you so much." Etho replies quietly.
Grian chuckles. "Anytime. Now. Let's settle you into your room." Grian stands and leads Etho to a large room.
"You can have a good nights rest here. You will have guard training in the morning. Good night, Etho." Grian says and walks off, leaving Etho alone. Etho walks to the bed and lays down. Immediately, he feels tired and falls asleep in less than 10 minutes.
When Etho wakes up, one thing he wasn't expecting was to see Grian on his lap, looking at him.
"Morning!" Grian smiles cheerfully.
Etho practically screams when he sees Grian to his embarrassment.
Grian laughs.
"Did I scare you?" Grian teases.
Etho looks away. He can feel his heart racing.
Grian giggles and turns Etho's face to him. He cups Etho's cheeks in his hands and kisses him on his forehead. Etho blushes deeply.
"How did you sleep?" Grian asks, standing.
"Good.." Etho says, embarrassed.
"I am glad. Come, we have to start your training soon." Grian says and holds out his hand for Etho. Etho stares at it for a moment and slowly reaches out with his left hand and takes Grian's hand, pulling him up.
"You humans are weird." Grian says as he pokes Etho's cheek. "Your cheeks are pink." Grian says.
"Oh, uh. In some situations, this is normal." Etho says.
"Interesting. You have to teach me about human emotions, Etho." Grian smiles.
"Alright." Etho smiles back.
They walk towards a training field. A bunch of soldiers are already training there.
Grian clears his throat, and the soldiers all look at him.
"Where's Martyn?" Grian asks. Some soldiers point to a tent.
Grian leads Etho to the tent and walks in.
"Marryn, the trainee is here." Grian says.
"Ah. Right! Hello Etho." Says the blonde haired boy as he waves and greets Etho.
"Y-Your that-" Etho starts.
"Yes, one of the angels that was dragging you down the hall. Sorry about that, but you are very stubborn."
Martyn interrupts Etho and points at him.
"Anyway, we're going to practice today. So get ready and meet me outside when you're done, okay?" Martyn tells him.
"Okay." Etho nods as Martyn walks out.
Grian sighs.
"Yes, he is always like that." Grian laughs. "Go choose a weapon, and you can start training. I have some business to attend." Grian smiles and walks off.
Etho turns and sees a bunch of weapons. He grabs a sword and heads out in the field to Martyn.
Martyn grins. "A good ol' reliable sword, hm? Let's dance Etho." Martyn grins and pulls out his axe.
The battle goes for a few minutes, but Etho ends up winning, not to his surprise, but the surprise of everyone else around... especially Martyn.
There is an uncomfortable silence that is soon broken by everyone cheering.
"He beat Martyn!" Someone says.
"The unbeatable Martyn has been beaten!!!" Another person yells.
Etho looks at Martyn, and Martyn still looks shocked.
"You... beat me.." Martyn whispers.
"Yes, I did." Etho says simply.
Martyn stands up. "How..?"
Etho shrugs.
"You must've cheated somehow."
"Nope." Etho says.
Martyn runs at Etho, swinging wildly and trying to land hits.
Etho steps back, shocked, but blocks every single hit that Martyn throws at him. After a few seconds, Martyn stops trying and just stands there panting.
"I lost.." Martyn breathes out.
"Yep. It seems so." Etho states.
"How did you do that?" Martyn asks. "No one has beat me...in years."
"You're really predictable, Martyn." Etho says. "Sorry." He adds.
Martyn shakes his head and walks over to where the others are. Etho stays and watches him leave, and his shoulders drop when he does.
Etho has been living with Grian for 3 years now. It's not all that bad, but he misses his friends. Etho misses his home.
It's late at night, and Etho is standing on the balcony overlooking a forest below. It's peaceful. He doesn't hear anyone come up behind him, but when he hears a soft voice, he knows who it is.
"Hey Etho, are you okay?" Grian asks, leaning onto the rail beside Etho. Etho only shrugs in response.
Grian frowns.
"Why are you sad Etho.." Grian says with concern lacing his words.
Etho looks at Grian and smiles sadly, causing Grian to look worried once more.
"Is there something I'm doing wrong...?"
Grian asks quietly.
Etho sighs. "I'm sorry, it's nothing, Grian. It's just a little homesickness, I guess."
Grian looks worried again. "Do you want a hug?" Grian offers.
"Please..." Etho whispers and closes his eyes tightly, tears pricking at his eyes.
Grian hugs Etho. "I know... I can't say I understand...because I wouldn't...but I want you to feel better. I..just don't understand human emotions too well.." Grian whispers.
"It's...ok Grian.." Etho whispers and burries his face in Grian's fluffy hair.
Grian continues holding Etho and talking softly to him.
After what seems like hours, the two pull apart and giggle lightly at how ridiculous they look.
"Thank you, Grian." Etho says with a small smile.
Grian looks at Etho questioningly.
"For letting me cry on you...when I need someone to talk to."
Grian puts his hands on Etho's cheeks.
Etho blushes. "You don't need to thank me.. I just want to be a friend. That's all I ever wanted. And you are such a good friend, Etho." Grian leans in closer to Etho until their foreheads touch.
"Etho...I-" Grian gets cut off by the sound of footsteps, both men jump slightly and back away from each other.
They turn to find Martyn approaching them, walking fast.
"Grian! The town is under attack!!!" Martyn says. "We need you both down helping. Now!!" Martyn runs back to the other guards.
"Come on, Etho!" Grian calls as he grabs Etho's hand and rushes off.
Grian leads Etho through the town streets. It's chaos. People run in fear, yelling, crying, fighting. It's all so chaotic. Everyone is running for their lives.
Etho has his sword tightly in his hand. "Stay behind me, Grian." Etho says and pulls Grian to his side.
They make their way through crowds of people and finally reach a group of soldiers. They are standing together near a building that seems to have collapsed.
"What happened?" Grian asks.
"The demons have started to attack us." A soldier states.
One demon starts climbing on top of the building next to them, and Grian notices that he's aiming his arrow at him. Grian feels his blood boil.
"Guys! Run!" Grian yells, and the soldiers do as told without questioning why.
The demon shoots the arrow.
Etho pulls Grian away from the arrow. When the arrow hits the ground, it explodes. Etho grabs a knife from his vest and throws it at the demon, killing it.
"Let's go!" Etho yells at Grian and runs after the soldiers. Grian follows him closely behind.
Etho protects Grian very well until they get to the bunker.
"Stay here." Etho says to Grian.
"What?! No! I want to help-" Grian says.
"As your personal guard. I command you to stay here." Etho says firmly and runs out of the room, locking Grian inside.
"Etho!!!" Grian bangs on the door.
Around what seems like 4 hours, Grian hears the door unlock.
Grian sits up. He sees the door open but doesn't see Etho. Instead, he sees Martyn, covered in blood.
"Martyn..?" Grian whispers as Martyn grips his axe tightly.
Before Grian asks what happened, Martyn pushes him against the wall before punching him in the stomach and then kicking him straight to the ground. Grian gasps for breath as Martyn stomps on his stomach repeatedly.
Martyn lifts Grian up into the air and throws him onto the ground a few times until Martyn's foot is on his chest and Grian is gasping for air.
"Martyn..." Grian whimpers while looking up at Martyn.
"Stop making noise." Martyn spits and kicks Grian right in the stomach, causing him to cough and gag.
Martyn kicks him again in the ribs. "Shut up, or I'll kill you." He threatens.
Grian whimpers.
Martyn rips the mask off of Grian's eyes.
Grian's eyes widen, and they are bright purple.
Martyn smirks and raises his axe.
Grian screams.
Grian opens his eyes to see a white wall. He sits up quickly but soon regrets it. "Ow..gosh.." Grian whimpers and looks to his left. He sees Martyn, cuffed to a medical bed with bandages all over him.
Grian hears the door open, and he looks and sees Etho walk in.
"Grian! Oh, thank goodness you're ok!" Etho rushes to Grian's side.
Grian looks at Etho and gets a flashback.
Grian screams, but soon...to his surprise he doesn't feel the contact of the axe, he uncovers his face and sees Martyn, in shock...with a sword inside him.
Etho is standing behind Martyn, with his sword plunged deep in his chest.
Etho pulls it out, and Martyn falls to the floor.
Everything goes black after that.
"Etho... you saved me.." Grian whispers and grabs Etho's hand. He realizes his mask is on his eyes, Etho didn't look.
Etho kneels beside the medical bed. "It's my job, Grian." Etho grins sadly. "To protect you."
Grian smiles back at him and squeezes his hand. "Thanks Etho....for protecting me."
Etho kisses Grian's hand. "Anything for you?"
Grian's cheeks go pink, he is feeling... something he's never felt before. A mixture between happiness and sadness fills his whole body, and he is so..confused. What is this feeling? Is it love? Is this what love feels like?
No..it can't be. This isn't love... right? But...he wants it to be...
"Are you sure you're okay? You're turning red, Grian." Etho suddenly says, causing Grian to snap back to reality.
Grian turns even redder, his face flushing. "Yeah.. I'm fine.." Grian mumbles.
"Oh, alright. You should rest, Grian." Etho says. "I'll take care of Martyn."
"Okay..."
"Good night, Grian."
It has been almost a year since the incident, Martyn is in prison, and Etho has not left Grian's side. Not that Grian minds. He likes having Etho close to him.
Etho has been teaching him more about humans.
They grew so much closer... so Grian decided he would finally show Etho his eyes.
"Etho?!" Grian calls out. Etho stops what he is doing. "Here. Can you come and sit in front of me please?"
Etho comes over to Grian and sits on a chair facing Grian. "What's up?" Etho tilts his head.
Grian sighs.
"It's time...to show you my eyes.. I trust you..a lot" Grian states.
"Your trust is appreciated, Grian.." Etho says, smiling softly.
Grian takes Etho's hand and brings it up to his lips, and kisses it.
Etho's cheeks go pink.
Grian lets go of Etho's hand and takes his mask off slowly. He opens his eyes, and they shine purple. He closes his eyes and opens them once more.
"Oh Grian..." Etho breathes. "Your eyes....they are so beautiful."
He reaches forward and traces Grian's cheekbone with his thumb before gently cupping his face.
Grian leans into Etho's hand. "Etho..? I have a question about humans.." Grian whispers softly, not wanting to break the spell of Etho's gentle touch.
"What is it, Grian?"
"Do humans love each other?"
Etho laughs lightly. "Of course, Grian."
"What if... someone not human falls in love with a human..?" Grian whispers.
"Anyone can love anyone, Grian." Etho smiles and traces Grian's cheek with his thumb.
"Does...love make you feel strange?" Grian asks.
Etho chuckles. "Strange?"
Grian nods slightly, still keeping his eyes locked onto Etho's.
Etho pauses for a moment before responding.
"Yes...it does." He pauses again. "It makes you feel happy...and maybe sad..your emotions mix together when you're in love."
Grian stares at Etho's lips. His heart races with excitement and nervousness. Does Etho love him too?
"How do we know someone we love loves us in return?" Grian asks.
Etho thinks for a bit. "Well...I don't really think I know how, Grian. It's a mystery to me." Etho whispers.
"Well...Etho...I feel...a new emotion..I don't think I've felt before I met you." Grian says slowly, trying to find the words to express exactly what he means.
"And what is that, Grian? If i may ask?" Etho asks softly as he gently caresses Grian's face.
"I...feel..my heart beats faster whenever I'm around you. And sometimes when you're far from me I get sad.." Grian admits. "This...emotion is...strange." Grian says and leans forwards slightly.
Etho leans forward, too, putting their foreheads together. "Is it a good type of strange...or a bad type of strange?" Etho mutters.
"I think...it's the good kind.." Grian answers.
Etho presses his lips against Grian's gently. The kiss starts slow and gentle, but it becomes passionate as Etho holds Grian's face.
When Grian's hands reach up and hold Etho's shoulders, both boys start to deepen the kiss. Etho slides one of his hands down Grian's arms and places his arm around Grian's waist. Grian wraps his arms around Etho's neck and pulls him closer. They both smile and pull away slightly for a moment to catch their breath.
Grian rests his forehead against Etho's and closes his eyes.
"Grian.." Etho says in a hushed tone. "I..."
Etho swallows nervously.
Grian smiles and leans in again, kissing Etho once more. Grian smiles against Etho's soft lips. After a few moments of kissing, Grian and Etho pull apart from each other.
"You taste nice." Grian purrs.
Etho's cheeks turn red again.
Grian smirks. "That was a compliment."
Etho blushes harder.
"Now tell me something else." Grian giggles.
"What do humans... call their love?" Grian whispers.
"Boyfriend." Etho answers, a smile on his face.
Grian smiles. "My boyfriend. So...your my boyfriend now?" Grian asks.
"If you want me to be." Etho answers.
Grian pecks Ethos lips softly. "I do.."
Etho chuckles and rests his forehead against Grian's again. "I love you, Grian.." Etho says softly.
Grian smiles and hugs Etho tightly. "I love you too, Etho." Grian says as he buries his face into Etho's chest.
After some time, Grian starts falling asleep. He feels safe being held by Etho.
"I wish i could stay here forever with you, Etho.." Grian mumbles sleepily.
"Me too, Gri..me too.." Etho mumbles.
Grian yawns and soon falls asleep.
Etho pulls Grian on his lap and holds him gently.
He smiles and kisses his hair.
"I promise I'll keep you safe, I won't leave your side again..." Etho whispers softly.
