Keralis runs through the alleyways of the village, trying to escape an angry store owner. Keralis just stole a few apples from him. This is because Keralis can't afford food.
Keralis jumps up and hides in a tree.
He hops down into another alley, he spots a job board, and he walks towards it.
The largest flyer has the fanciest largest writing, it says,'PERSONAL GUARD FOR FUTURE KING NEEDED!!! PAY 1500 A WEEK!!'
Keralis smirks and takes the paper. Tomorrow, he is going to that castle.
The next day, Keralis enters the palace gates. A guard holds up a sword.
"Who are you?" The guard frowns.
"Uh- my name is Keralis. I am here to try for the new personal guard job." Keralis shows the flier.
"Ah. Go right in. The training grounds are to the right." The guard points. "And don't let me catch you snooping." He shakes his head and returns back to patrol the sgates.
Keralis smiles brightly and starts walking to the training grounds. He passes some servants and guards. Once he gets the training grounds, he sees the king with another person. He watches as the other person fails to shoot a bow.
The king sighs and sends the guy off.
Keralis walks up. "Hello, Your Majesty." Keralis bows.
"Hm. I suppose you are here for the test. Very well. What is your name?" The king asks.
"My name is Keralis." Keralis smiles sheepishly.
"Ok, your first test. Hit a bullseye on the target." The king hands Keralis a bow and arrow. Keralis takes the bow and aims it. He slowly pulls the string back and releases. The arrow hits the target straight on the bullseye.
The king smiles and claps. "Very good! Now, your second test. Your job is to fight one of my skilled guards. Wels!" The king calls, and Wels walks over.
"You are going to spar one of my knights." The king hands Keralis a sword.
Keralis gulps as Wels draws his sword.
Soon, they start fighting.
Keralis has never fought with a sword before, but he was doing pretty well.
Wels is much better than him, though.
Keralis tries to keep the rhythm of the battle. He doesn’t want to hurt Wels, but he has no choice. So he fights with everything he's got. He dodges, swings, and blocks all of Wels’ attacks and eventually knocks Wels' sword out of his hand.
The king's jaw drops.
Wels smiles and picks up his sword.
"You got some talent, kid." Wels smiles more. "Good luck on getting this job!" Wels goes back to patrol.
The king walks over.
"My goodness. You have definitely proven yourself. Now come, you must meet the prince if you're going to protect him." The king leads Keralis upstairs into the castle.
"Xb! Your new guard is here!" the king calls.
Footsteps approach them.
Keralis sees a gorgeous man with fluffy brown hair, blue eyes, and blue scales freckling his face and arms. He has his crown slightly tilted on his head.
"Hello there." Xb smiles at Keralis. "I'm Xb, Prince Xb." He extends his hand out. Keralis bows instead of shaking Xb's hand.
Xb laughs.
"Stand straight and shake my hand." Xb smiles, amused.
Keralis stands up straight and shakes Xb's hand.
"Oh, you're so tall. I bet you'll be a really strong knight." Xb giggles and winks at Keralis. Keralis feels his cheeks warm up.
"Xb stop flirting with the new guard." The king sighs and leaves the two alone.
"Whats your name?" Xb grins.
"My name is Keralis. Your highness." Keralis bows.
Xb chuckles. "Come. Follow me to my room."
Xb leads Keralis to a beautiful room. There is a large bed covered with red velvet sheets, and there are pillows littered about the room as well. Keralis notices a bookshelf next to a window.
"Make yourself comfortable," Xb grins.
"Thank you." Keralis says and stands awkwardly in the corner.
"I said comfortable, not awkward." Xb sighs and pushes Keralis onto a sofa. "Relax."
Keralis sighs and sits stiffly on the sofa. Xb giggles and joins him.
"So why did you want to protect the prince hm~?" Xb raises an eyebrow.
"Do you want me to be honest, or should I sugar coat it?" Keralis asks.
"Be honest with me, Keralis." Xb leans into the couch.
"I needed the money. To ya know, survive." Keralis answers plainly.
"That's understandable. It's very hard to get jobs around here. I've been trying to make the employers loosen up a bit." Xb smiles.
Keralis smiles back.
*A few weeks later*
"Xb!!" The King calls Xb downstairs. Xb goes to his father, Keralis goes with him.
"Yes, Father?" Xb asks and tilts his head.
"This is your future husband." The King says and motions towards, in Xb's opinion, the most snarky man he has ever seen.
"Oh uh, Hello, I'm Pri-" Xb gets cut off.
"Yes, I know who you are." The other prince says and walks past Xb, bumping into him. "Someone get me a water!" He yells.
Xb glares, and so does Keralis.
"What is his problem..?" Xb mutters.
Keralis wraps his arm around Xb's shoulders. "Don't you worry, Xb. He's just a stupid jerk face." Keralis smiles.
Xb laughs at Keralis' comment. "I guess you're right." He smiles.
"Now, let's go on our walk in the garden!" Keralis smiles and pulls Xb to the garden.
Xb laughs and follows Keralis.
When they get to the garden, Keralis starts smelling all the flowers while Xb just stares at Keralis.
Xb smiles softly. "I like it when you get so interested in plants, Keralis." He says.
Keralis looks embarrassed. "They're beautiful..." He says and continues looking at all of the flowers. He picks one and turns to Xb. He places a yellow flower behind Xb's ear. "Like it?" Keralis asks sweetly.
Xb's cheeks turn pink, and he smiles. "I do... thank you...."
Keralis smiles happily and starts running through the garden. Xb follows after him. They run through the garden, and Keralis finds a beautiful cherry blossom tree. He stops under it and grabs a bunch of flowers.
Xb laughs.
"Your majesty! These flowers are for you!" Keralis tosses all the flowers on Xb.
Xb laughs as his hair gets decorated with cherry blossom petals.
The two laugh and run around for a while until they hear someone clear their throat. They stop and look over to see the other prince.
"What are you two doing?" He scoffs and rolls his eyes.
"We were playing." Keralis responds.
The prince grabs Xb's arm and pulls him close.
"Go away, peasant." The prince growls.
Xb yanks his arm away from the prince. "Get your filthy hands off me, and do not talk to my guard like that ever again!" Xb raises his voice angrily.
The prince stares shocked. "You little brat. What is wrong with you?!" The prince raises his hand.
'SLAP'
Xb's eyes widen as he sees Keralis in front of him. Keralis stepped in front of Xb and got slapped instead of Xb.
Keralis glares down at the prince, and the prince steps back.
"Apologize." Keralis growls, and his glare darkens.
The prince gulps. "I apologize.... Your Highness." He backs away more and leaves.
"Keralis..! Are you ok?" Xb turns Keralis to face him. Keralis has a large red mark on his cheek. "Why would you stand between me and him? That was really dumb of you." Xb scolds.
"It's my job to protect you, Xb." Keralis says.
Xb sighs and rubs his thumb over the bruise on Keralis' cheek. "Thank you, Keralis."
Keralis smiles. "Anything for you, Your Highness."
Keralis kneels down and takes Xb's hand, and brings it to his lips. He kisses Xb's knuckles.
"I will protect you for the rest of my life." Keralis whispers.
Xb smiles softly and looks away shyly. His cheeks are tinted slightly red.
*A few months go by, and it's the day of Xb's wedding*
"I am not...excited for this.." Xb whispers as Keralis fixes his tie.
"It's gonna be ok, Xb. I will still be by your side." Keralis smiles softly.
Xb nods and takes a deep breath.
"Are you ready?" Keralis smiles softly and squeezes Xbs' hand.
"As ready as I can be." Xb sighs.
Keralis goes and takes Xb to his father.
"I'm going to take a seat now." Keralis says and goes.
"Father." Xb looks at the king. "Do I have to marry this man?" Xb whispers.
"Yes, Xb. It's for the good of the kingdom." The king states firmly. "Let's go."
The king links his arm with Xb's and walks him down the aisle.
The prince, Gerald, smirks at Xb.
Xb looks at the ground when he gets to the alter. His hands start shaking uncontrollably. He hears a chuckle next to him. He looks up quickly and frowns at the smirk that is plastered on Gerald's face.
The ceremony goes on, the officiant finally says,
"If anyone objects to this marriage, you may state now or forever hold your peace."
Silence for a second.
"Ve-" The officiant gets cut off by Xb.
"I object for myself!!!" Xb yells and throws the ring at Gerald. "I will never marry a stuck-up a-hole like you ever!!!" Xb yells angrily and runs out of the room.
Gasps happen all around the room, and Gerald is fuming with anger.
Keralis gets up and goes after Xb.
"Xb..!" Keralis whispers as he finds Xb in a corridor. Xb is shaking.
"My..f-father is going..t-to kill me.." Xb whimpers.
Keralis hugs Xb. "No one will touch you. As I've stated before, I will protect you for the rest of my life."
Xb sniffles and wipes his eyes with his sleeve.
He looks up at Keralis and his cheeks flush pink. "Keralis.." Xb whispers.
"Yes, Xb?" Keralis whispers back.
"I want to marry you instead.." Xb blushes.
Keralis blushes madly.
"What..?" Keralis whispers.
"Please be mine Keralis..save me from Gerald.." Xb whispers.
"...ok...." Keralis whispers quietly.
Xb immediately kisses Keralis.
Keralis wraps his arms around Xb's waist.
Xb presses himself closer to Keralis as he wraps his arms around Keralis' neck. Their lips move together gently, as if each of them is afraid they'll mess this up somehow.
Keralis leans forward and rests his forehead against Xb's.
Their eyes flicker open and stare deeply into each other.
Xb feels something warm and familiar stir in his chest. Xb pulls away gently.
"Run away with me, Keralis." Xb whispers.
"Of course." Keralis whispers.
The two pack up things quickly and sneak out.
"Where to, my love?" Keralis says.
"Anywhere you want, Keralis." Xb smiles happily.
Keralis leads Xb to a part of town where barely anyone goes to. It's an alley that leads to an abandoned house. It's surrounded by tall brick walls with iron bars on top.
"Is that the place?" Xb whispers softly.
"Yep.." Keralis nods and holds Xb's hand tightly.
The two walk into the house.
"Bubbles!!!" Keralis calls out, and this guy looks out the window.
"Keralis! Your back!" The guy says and runs outside to them.
"Xb, this is my brother Bdubs. Bdubs, this is Xb." Keralis introduces.
Xb waves awkwardly.
Bdubs looks at Xb and grins. "Nice to meet you, Xb!"
Keralis looks nervous.
Xb laughs a little. "Hello there!"
Bdubs lets out a big yawn and slings his arm around Keralis' shoulder.
"C'mon, bro, let's go inside. You are ruining my beauty sleep schedule." Bdubs groans loudly as he drags his feet towards his bedroom.
Keralis blushes.
"I'll leave you two alone then." Bdubs waves as he enters his room.
When Xb and Keralis are alone inside, they both stand and blush awkwardly.
Xb slowly walks over to Keralis, tilts his head down, and kisses him.
Keralis wraps his arms around Xb and kisses him back. They kiss passionately for a while and pull away to catch their breaths.
After a few minutes of standing in silence with Xb just looking at Keralis, Keralis grabs Xb by the hips and lifts him into the air.
Xb yelps.
"I knew we should have taken you upstairs first!" Keralis exclaims and starts walking.
Xb giggles and wraps his legs around his waist.
Keralis chuckles before carrying Xb upstairs and setting him on his bed.
"There you go, my princess~," Keralis winks.
Xb blushes and opens his arms.
Keralis grins and flops into Xb's arms gently. He starts kissing Xb.
Xb gently wraps his legs around Keralis' waist and kisses back. Xb puts his hands in Keralis' hair, gently running his fingers through it.
They continue kissing.
Keralis pulls away and nuzzles Xb's nose. "Now, let's get some rest." Keralis teases making Xb pout. Keralis laughs and lays beside Xb.
He cuddles close to Xb.
"You're so soft.." Keralis whispers as he brushes his thumb over Xb's cheekbone.
"Mm..you too." Xb replies and hugs Keralis tighter. "I love you, Keralis."
"And I love you too." Keralis leans in and kisses Xb again.
Xb smiles and kisses back. Soon, they fall asleep.
