Being the Mayor is so challenging when you have someone resisting your every move.
Scar is currently asleep at his office desk at 2 am. because he was working all day.
The head assistant, Bdubs, peaks his head into the office. He came back to the office building when he still saw Scar's office light on.
"Scar..?" Bdubs whispers.
No response from Scar.
Bdubs walks over to Scar and gently rubs his head and sighs.
"Oh dear. What am I going to do with you?" Bdubs smiles gently and quietly goes to a cabinet to grab a blanket. He goes back over to Scar and puts the blanket on Scar. Bdubs smiles at him before shutting the lights off and leaving for the night.
The next morning, Bdubs walks into the office with two cupholders of coffee.
"Morning Bdubs!" False says with a smile.
"Morning False" Bdubs smiles and gives a coffee to False. "Here, your favorite coffee." He smiles warmly at her, and False beams back. They both hear a door open and look towards the sound.
They see Scar walk out of his office.
"Morning Boss," Bdubs smiles. Scar just nods in acknowledgment, takes his coffee, and starts walking away. Scar stops in front of the office door. He turns around and looks at Bdubs and False.
"False, deliver the rest of the coffee to the HEP members. Bdubs follow me." Scar says.
Bdubs grabs his cup of coffee and follows Scar.
"Where are we off to today, Boss?" Bdubs asks cheerfully as he sips his coffee. He smiles up at Scar and waits for an answer.
"We are going to talk with Grian about his troubling resistance." Scar states tiredly.
"You seem to be taking this very seriously." Bdubs mentions. "Have you been sleeping well?"
"I'm fine, Bdubs." Scar says.
Bdubs looks worried. "You've been getting fewer hours of sleep these days." Bdubs adds. "It can't have been good." Bdubs continues looking concerned and rambles about Scar not sleeping well.
"Bdubs, stop it!!" Scar snaps loudly and throws his coffee cup on the ground angrily.
Bdubs flinches, and Scar's eyes widen. He instantly regrets snapping. He reaches out but retracts his hand. "I apologize for losing my temper, Bdubs... I didn't mean to snap." Scar sighs. "Just drop it, and please don't worry about me anymore, alright?" Scar pleads. "I'll be fine."
Bdubs doesn't respond. He just nods and looks away from Scar.
The rest of the walk to Grian's home was silent.
When they get to Grian's house, Scar knocks on the door.
Grian opens the door.
"Ah! Mayor Scar" Grian grins mischievously. "Nice to see you again." Grian greets sarcastically.
"Good morning, Grian," Scar responds in a serious tone.
Grian grins. "Come on in." Grian steps to the side. Scar enters, followed by Bdubs.
"What brings you here today, Scar?" Grian asks casually.
"You know why." Scar responds and sits on a chair.
Bdubs stands behind the chair, he makes eye contact with Grian, and then glances away.
Grian's expression changes slightly when he sees the sadness on Bdubs' face.
"Are you alright? You don't look like yourself, Bdubs..." Grian says carefully. "Is something wrong?"
Bdubs looks at Grian, shocked. "Oh, everything is fine. I don't know what you mean -" Bdubs says awkwardly. "Don't change the subject."
Grian's gaze softens as he sits. "Sorry for assuming." Grian says.
"So. Grian. As you know, your little resistance has been spreading more mycelium around. This needs to stop." Scar states.
Grian rolls his eyes for two reasons, one because he really doesn't see the problem with mycelium and two, the way he didn't even ask if Bdubs was ok.
"My resistance is pretty peaceful compared to the others that we see in town." Grian replies with a small shrug. "You are worried about nothing, Scar." Grian crosses his arms.
"Spreading the mycelium after I cleaned it all up is not peaceful, Grian!" Scar raises his voice slightly. Scar pauses and tries again quieter. "It causes more problems than it solves. I can't tolerate this anymore! You need to stop, or I will send you to a prison cell!" Scar finishes harshly.
Grian is frozen. He isn't sure how to react.
Scar sighs. After a few moments, Scar speaks. "Bdubs. We need to go now, " Scar mutters. "Good day, Grian." Scar states and leaves the room.
Bdubs stays behind silently and stares at the wall. Bdubs lets out a deep breath and follows Scar.
When they get back to the HEP office building, Bdubs walks in first, and not even 5 seconds later, Scar bumps into him purposefully, making Bdubs trip forward and fall.
Bdubs falls to the floor, and Scar doesn't acknowledge it as he goes to his office.
Bdubs winces as he tries to get up.
"Bdubs, what happened?!" Tango asks and hurries over to help Bdubs up.
Bdubs looks at Tango with tears in his eyes.
"Bdubs.." Tango whispers and carefully sits Bdubs on the couch in the front room.
Bdubs starts sobbing. His whole body shakes. The tears roll down his cheeks quickly, dripping onto the floor.
Tango frowns deeply and pulls Bdubs in closer to him. Tango strokes Bdubs back softly as Bdubs continues crying. He slowly runs a finger across Bdubs' cheek.
The rest of the HEP members crowd around the crying Bdubs, trying to comfort him. When Scar walks out of his office to the front entrance of the building, everyone stops talking and backs away from Bdubs.
Everyone else is silent except for Bdubs' crying.
Scar's gaze lingers at Bdubs for a moment. "Bdubs."
Bdubs doesn't make any movement or reply. Scar furrows his brows and takes a few steps toward Bdubs. "Are you ok?"
Bdubs is still crying loudly and hasn't responded yet.
"Bdubs." Scar calls a little more sternly and moves his hands to Bdubs' shoulders. "Are you hurt?" Scar asks.
Bdubs finally stops sobbing and looks up at Scar. As soon as he makes eye contact with Scar, he starts crying again.
"Bdubs! Answer me when I'm asking you things!" Scar raises his voice and grips Bdubs' arm tightly.
Bdubs gasps and whimpers as Scar pulls his arm roughly.
"Scar!" Xisuma yells angrily. "Let go of Bdubs. Now."
Scar lets go of Bdubs' arm. Bdubs starts sobbing and backing away from Scar in fear.
Scar's eyes widen as he looks at everyone in the room, staring at him with slight fear and anger.
Scar stands up.
"I'm going on a walk." Scar pushes past people and leaves the building.
Everyone stays quiet until Cub walks to Bdubs.
Cub kneels in front of Bdubs and wraps Bdubs in his arms. Bdubs hugs Cub tightly while crying.
"It's ok, bud." Cub whispers and starts petting Bdubs."
"Why did he do that?!" False shouts angrily. "He never acts so rough to anyone else!"
"Calm down." Tango whispers as he stands beside False.
"Bdubs..." False says softly, "I promise everything will be ok." She hugs Bdubs.
After several minutes, they break apart.
Everyone slowly starts leaving the office, but not without giving Bdubs a sad glance and telling him not to worry. Soon, everyone is gone except for Cub.
Cub holds Bdubs' hand while sitting down next to him. Bdubs is curled up in Cub's lap. He puts his forehead against his chest and lets out heavy sighs. Cub rubs Bdubs back gently.
"C-Cub..?" Bdubs whispers.
"Yes, Bdubs?" Cub answers softly.
"H-How do...you stop loving someone..?" Bdubs says quietly.
Cub's heart clenches painfully. "That's something only time can answer."
Bdubs nods and pulls out of the hug.
"I'm.. gonna go do.. something." Bdubs gets up and walks out.
Cub sighs, sadly.
Grian is currently spreading mycelium with Ren and Impulse.
"Uh guys?" Impulse says softly.
"Yes, impulse?" Ren raises an eyebrow.
"Is that Bdubs..crying?" Impulse looks into the distance.
Grian and Ren look too, and yes, there is Bdubs, crying while sitting on a bench.
Grian sighs. "God. What did Scar do this time?" Grian, Impulse, and Ren walk to Bdubs.
Impulse taps Bdubs' shoulder. Bdubs flinches in surprise and whips around, looking scared.
"Whoa, whoa Bdubs, calm down!" Ren shouts, holding his hands up.
Bdubs is breathing heavily.
Grian approaches Bdubs slowly.
Grian holds out his hand. "Bdubs. What happened?"
Bdubs' gaze drops to Grian's hand, then back up at his eyes and then at Grian's face. Tears start rolling down Bdubs' face again.
Ren gently wipes Bdubs' tears.
"S-Scar..h-he..." Bdubs sobs. "He doesn't..c-care about me.." Bdubs cries.
Grian's gaze softens. "Hey...why do you say that?"
Bdubs sniffles and leans into Ren's touch.
"Because Scar always acts cold and mean to me. A-All the time!" Bdubs continues. "And when i try to explain it to him, I just seem...stupid...I don't understand why Scar hates me."
Grian's eyes narrow, and he looks at Scar's office before looking at Bdubs.
"He's trying to distance himself from you, Bdubs." Grian states.
"B-But why?" Bdubs looks at Grian.
"Because he loves you and doesn't want to admit it." Grian crosses his arms.
Bdubs looks surprised. "W... What?"
Grian grins slightly. "You heard me right. There is no other reason he acts so mean towards you." Grian explains.
"I... I thought i was annoying." Bdubs mumbles.
"No. He acts like this also because he doesn't want you worrying about him. But he needs that. He needs someone like you." Grian sighs.
"So...what should i do then?" Bdubs turns to Grian hopefully.
Grian smiles gently at Bdubs. "Just continue being yourself Bdubs and let him come to terms with his feelings. And, I saw him at his house a few minutes ago, go talk to him." Grian smiles and leaves with Ren and Impulse.
Bdubs nods and gets up, and he hurries to Scar's house.
Scar is currently trading with his villagers when he hears, "Scar?".
Scar turns to see Bdubs standing there.
"What...are you doing here?" Scar whispers.
"I wanted to check on you." Bdubs responds nervously and fidgets with his fingers.
"You didn't..need to.." Scar replies and tries to keep a straight face but fails miserably when he says this.
"I wanted to." Bdubs says softly and walks over to Scar.
"Bdubs..gosh. I'm so sorry about earlier." Scar's voice cracks slightly.
Bdubs doesn't say anything. He just hugs Scar. Scar's arms wrap around Bdubs instantly.
Bdubs tightens his grip and buries his face in Scar's neck.
"Bdubs.." Scar pulls back slightly.
Bdubs looks at Scar sadly and lets go of him.
"Yes?" Bdubs whispers.
Scar looks down and starts shaking. He falls to his knees and lowers his head.
"Please...don't forgive me, Bdubs.."
Scar murmurs and grabs Bdubs' wrist. "Please....just don't leave me..it..it would kill me if...if..you left...like everyone else has.."
Bdubs' eyes widen.
"Don't forgive me...but just..don't leave..me.." Scar whispers as he starts crying.
Bdubs kneels down in front of Scar.
Scar's whole body is shaking as he cries.
Bdubs grabs Scar's shaking hands. "Shhh....shhhh..calm down....."
"Bdubs.."Scar hiccups.
"Why...why are you being nice to me..? Why are you being so kind to me...I don't deserve your kindness."
"You're wrong, Scar." Bdubs looks deep into Scar's glistening eyes.
"Bdubs.. you need to understand....i'm not worthy of your kindness.. I've done nothing but hurt you."
"Do you truly believe that, Scar?" Bdubs whispers.
Scar looks at the ground ashamed.
"I..do," Scar admits.
"Look at me, Scar." Bdubs takes Scar's chin in his hand.
Scar looks up at Bdubs. Their faces are inches apart.
"You are not worthless or unlovable, Scar." Bdubs tells him. "And you've definitely done more than enough to deserve my kindness. You're my best friend Scar, and I care about you greatly." Bdubs says gently.
Scar smiles lightly and wraps his arms around Bdubs, pulling him closer and nuzzling his head into his neck. Bdubs smiles and holds him close.
They stay like this for a couple of seconds. Both are smiling.
Bdubs moves away after a bit.
Bdubs sits cross-legged on the grass.
Scar slowly sits and stares at Bdubs. His cheeks turn bright red.
Bdubs grabs Scar's hands and brings them to his mouth, kissing the back of Scar's hand.
Scar feels his cheeks heat up even more. Bdubs keeps staring at him with his big beautiful eyes filled with adoration.
Scar suddenly blushes even harder.
Bdubs smiles brightly at Scar's reddening cheeks.
"Bdubs..?" Scar asks shyly.
"Hmm?" Bdubs hums.
"I...I love you." Scar says very softly.
Bdubs smiles widely. "I love you too."
Silence falls upon them again.
Scar scoots forward and hugs Bdubs. Bdubs smiles into his neck.
Bdubs closes his eyes and enjoys the warmth and closeness that Scar gives off. Bdubs hugs him back tightly.
The next day, both of them arrive at the HEP office building at the same time. They look at each other and blush, standing there awkwardly.
Cub walks up to the door and raises an eyebrow at both of them.
"Morning you two." Cub smiles.
"Oh- Morning Cub!" Bdubs smiles brightly at Cub.
"Good morning, Cub." Scar smiles, embarrassed.
Scar opens the door for Cub and Bdubs.
Bdubs walks in first and goes to get the coffee orders from the notice board.
"I'll come with you today, Bdubs." Scar mentions.
Bdubs smiles. "Alright."
The two start walking to the coffee shop.
Bdubs nudges Scar with his shoulder playfully.
Scar chuckles and bumps Bdubs with his shoulder in return. The two smile at each other and laugh silently.
Once they get to the coffee shop, Bdubs and Scar greet Zedaph, the owner. Bdubs puts the order in for the coffee's.
Once the coffee's are ready, Bdubs is about to pick them up, but Scar picks them up first.
"Scar!" Bdubs pouts playfully.
"What?" Scar grins. "I just want to help my princess!" Scar winks as Bdubs blushes madly.
"S-SHUT- U-up!" Bdubs yells, embarrassed and flustered.
"Aww~ you know I'm only teasing." Scar giggles, the two walk out of the coffee shop. Bdubs is still murmuring and grumbling about not being a princess.
Scar stops walking when they are halfway back.
"Scar?" Bdubs raises an eyebrow.
Scar places the coffee down on a picnic table and turns to Bdubs.
"Bdubs...Can..." Scar starts. "Gosh..Bdubs, let me kiss you." Scar whispers.
Bdubs' eyes widen, and his mouth drops open slightly. "W... What??!?"
Scar bites his lip nervously. "I...wanna...kiss you.."
Bdubs' face begins to flush a faint shade of pink.
"O-Ok." Bdubs whispers.
Scar's face breaks out into a wide grin and steps closer to Bdubs. "Come here, you."
Bdubs can't help but blush even more as he steps forward.
Scar wraps his arms around Bdubs' waist and pulls him close. He places his hands at Bdubs' sides.
Bdubs is trembling slightly when Scar pulls him closer but relaxes when Scar gently presses their lips together.
It's slow, it's sweet, and it's warm and wonderful. As soon as Bdubs feels the familiar feeling of Scar's soft lips against his, he closes his eyes and leans into the kiss more.
When they pull apart, they are breathless. Both of their faces have matching bright blushes.
Bdubs wraps his arms around Scar's neck.
Scar rests his forehead against Bdubs.
They both lean in closer and close their eyes as they kiss again.
After a while, they part and look deep into each others' eyes.
"That was amazing." Scar whispers quietly.
Bdubs blushes again. "Thank you...that was really amazing, Scar."
Scar smiles, happy that he makes Bdubs feel happy again.
Bdubs puts a hand on Scar's cheek and runs his thumb over one of the scars on his face.
Scar blushes and pulls Bdubs closer.
Bdubs slowly slides his hand into Scar's fluffy brown hair. Scar's breath hitches, and he smiles.
They both stare into each others eyes, neither able to pull their gaze away.
"I love you."
Bdubs flushes red.
Scar laughs lightly and pecks Bdubs' nose.
Bdubs sighs and smiles. "I love you too."
Scar smiles happily.
"We should probably bring the coffee back to the office before it gets cold." Bdubs smiles.
"Yeah, we should." Scar smiles back.
*Now in Season 9*
"Hahaha!!! I beat you at TCG!!!" Bdubs gloats and giggles.
Scar smiles softly. "Bdubs?"
"Yes, Scar?" Bdubs grins.
Scar walks up to Bdubs and bends slightly. "Want to go on a date tonight?" Scar whispers into Bdubs' ear as he kisses Bdubs' shoulder.
Bdubs shudders at the sudden action and nods his head. "Y...Yes.."
"Great! Then I'll pick you up at 5." Scar whispers.
"Ok." Bdubs responds.
Scar smiles sweetly at Bdubs. He leans down and gives Bdubs a quick kiss before waving, picking up his deck of cards and leaving.
Bdubs blushes and covers his face.
"Why are you so worrier about a date, Bdubs?" Cleo laughs.
"B-Because!! Scar never asks me on dates! And this one has to go well- because I always ask him on dates, and this one might be important an-" Bdubs rambles.
"Bdubs." Cleo laughs. "Calm down!"
Bdubs huffs and grabs an outfit. "Let's try this." Bdubs goes to change.
Once Bdubs comes out, Cleo sees him wearing a dress shirt, some black jeans, and boots.
"Looks good, Bdubs!" Cleo smiles.
"Do you think Scar will think I look g-"
"Bdubs, Scar always thinks you look good." Cleo laughs. "He's so into you he can't keep his mind off you, trust me."
"But what if-"
Clem interrupts. "Listen, Bdubs, Scar knows you better than anyone else does. He's probably already figured out how nervous you are about this date. So don't worry, ok?" Cleo tells Bdubs.
"Ok.." Bdubs smiles weakly.
"Go get him, Bdubs." Cleo smiles.
Bdubs sees Scar waiting for him at the front door.
"Hey princess," Scar smiles and holds out a bouquet of flowers. "These are for you."
Bdubs looks down at the beautiful bouquet of roses in his hand.
Scar puts out a hand.
Bdubs gently takes Scar's hand in his.
"You look absolutely gorgeous." Scar grins, staring straight into Bdubs' eyes.
Bdubs bites his lower lip, blushing furiously. "Y...You look pretty handsome yourself, Scar."
Scar smirks slyly. "Thanks, princess."
Bdubs' heart skips a beat as he stares into Scar's eyes.
They stay like this for a few moments before Bdubs breaks the silence.
"Let's go then."
Scar lets go of Bdubs' hand and links their fingers together.
They begin walking towards the car.
Once they reach the car, Scar opens the passenger door for Bdubs.
Bdubs smiles gratefully as he enters the car. He reaches behind himself and places his bouquet in the backseat.
Scar gets into the drivers seat and starts the car. Once they're driving off, Bdubs glances over at the bouquet and chuckles softly.
"Scar?" Bdubs asks, breaking the peaceful silence of the car.
Scar hums in response.
"How much did these cost?"
Scar laughs. "Don't worry about it, princess; it wasn't anything."
Bdubs sighs but smiles. "Well, thank you."
Scar grins. "No problem, princess."
Bdubs rolls his eyes and smiles softly.
Bdubs rests his head against the cool window and closes his eyes.
Scar watches as Bdubs rests. His lips turn into a small smile, and he drives to their date spot.
When they arrive, Bdubs doesn't move for a second or two until he hears a chuckle from the driver side seat.
"Are you coming, princess?" Scar teases with a smirk.
Bdubs sighs and sits up straighter, looking around him.
Bdubs sees a gorgeous park filled with cherry blossom and birch trees. The ground is littered with colorful stones. There are also lots of bushes, flowers, and benches scattered throughout the park. The park is quiet except for birds chirping and insects buzzing.
Soon, the passenger door opens, and Bdubs looks up to see Scar.
"When did you get there?" Bdubs smiles gently.
"While you were daydreaming, cutie." Scar winks at Bdubs.
Bdubs giggles happily as Scar puts his hand out. Bdubs grabs Scar's hand.
As Scar leads him to the park bench, Bdubs looks around them.
Bdubs looks up into the sky as he takes a seat next to Scar. "Wow..." Bdubs murmurs softly.
"This view is incredible.." Bdubs continues to gaze up at the sky.
Scar scoots close enough to Bdubs to put his arm around him.
The sun shines brightly onto the park below. Its rays reflect onto the lake and sparkle against the water and the rocks around the shore.
Scar pulls Bdubs closer and rests his head against Bdubs, intertwining their fingers together.
Scar looks down at Bdubs.
Bdubs is still focused on the sky.
"I think my view is better." Scar whispers softly as he stares at Bdubs.
Bdubs snorts and turns to look at Scar.
"Really?"
Scar smirks. "Of course, darling."
Bdubs stares at Scar lovingly. "I think this view is much better."
Scar scoffs and kisses Bdubs.
Bdubs melts into Scar's arms.
"Scar... I love you so much."
Scar smiles and nuzzles his nose against Bdubs'
"And I love you more, baby."
Bdubs smiles and closes his eyes. He feels safe and secure in Scar's strong arms.
Scar kisses Bdubs' forehead and strokes Bdubs' hair.
"Princess?" Scar whispers.
"Yes, Scar?" Bdubs whispers back.
"I have a question for you."
Bdubs opens his eyes.
"Ask away."
Scar pauses. "Well W-" Scar drops something. "Ah- let me get that." Scar stands, then kneels down to grab what he dropped.
Bdubs tilts his head curiously.
"It was nothing, just a pin. Here ya go, babe." He hands Bdubs the item.
Bdubs takes it, and his eyes widen when he looks at it. He then looks at Scar, who has a grin on his face.
Bdubs looks back at the object, and it's a beautiful golden ring with 3 little diamonds embedded in the band.
Bdubs' eyes start getting watery.
"What's wrong, princess? Are you crying?" Scar asks teasingly as his smile grows wider.
Bdubs turns away from Scar to wipe his tears with his sleeve.
Scar stands.
"Darling, don't cry." Scar whispers and pulls Bdubs up to stand with him.
Bdubs sniffles.
Scar looks at Bdubs lovingly. "Bdubs..."
Bdubs raises his eyes from the ring to meet with Scar's.
Scar brings his hands to Bdubs' face, brushing the tear tracks from his cheeks and smiling.
"Oh my poor, precious angel.." Scar mumbles quietly. He leans forward, bringing his forehead to rest against Bdubs'.
"So..? What do you think, darling? Would you make me the happiest person alive?" Scar murmurs.
Bdubs sniffles again and nods slowly.
"Yes, Scar. Of course I would love to make you the happiest person alive..but I can't..."
Scar's eyes widen. "Wha-" Scar gets cut off by Bdubs pecking his lips.
"Because I am already the happiest person alive~" Bdubs whispers.
Scar blushes madly and hugs Bdubs tightly. "Gosh, I'm so lucky to have you." Scar whispers lovingly as he squeezes Bdubs tight.
"I love you, Scar." Bdubs smiles as he kisses Scar.
Scar kisses back and holds Bdubs close. He pulls back and rests his forehead against Bdubs, gazing into his eyes. "I love you too." he says tenderly.
The couple smiles and kiss each other passionately.
After a while, they pull apart to catch their breaths.
Scar takes the ring and slides it on Bdubs' finger.
Bdubs smiles happily at the golden ring, resting comfortably on his ring finger.
"Now you're mine forever~" Scar purrs.
Bdubs giggles softly. "Forever sounds nice."
Scar grins happily. "That's exactly right, sweetheart~"
Bdubs sighs happily.
"Thank you." Bdubs says softly as he leans forward to give Scar one final kiss.
Scar laughs and kisses Bdubs back. He picks Bdubs up bridal style, holding him close to his chest.
Scar starts humming and sways with Bdubs.
Bdubs wraps his arms around Scar's neck and lays his head on his shoulder.
Scar carries Bdubs over to their spot under one of the cherry blossom trees. They sit down, cuddling each other as they watch the petals fall from the trees.
