Joel gets woken up by banging on his door. He groans unhappily and looks at the time.
"10:28?!" Joel yells and sits up. He's going to be late to his 11:00 class. Joel quickly walks to the door and opens it.
"There you are, sleepy head." Etho crosses his arms and laughs. "Go get a shower, I'll make you breakfast."
Etho is Joel's childhood best friend. They have been attached at the hip for over 15 years.
"Thank you-!" Joel yells and runs to go take a shower.
Etho walks in and starts to cook some food.
Around 15 minutes later, Joel goes to the kitchen and sees Etho setting down a full breakfast, eggs, toast, cubed potatoes, and bacon.
"Etho. You didn't have to make all of that for me." Joel walks over.
"I did. You deserve it. You work hard." Etho pulls his mask off and smiles at Joel.
Joel is happy Etho feels comfortable enough to show him the lower half of his face. It makes him feel special.
"I don't have enough time to e-" Joel gets cut off by Etho pushing a piece of bacon in his mouth.
Joel chews the bacon and swallows. He then rolls his eyes and starts eating. "Fine, if I'm late, it's your fault." Joel grins.
"You woke up late-" Etho counters.
"Shh, unimportant." Joel sticks his tongue out.
Etho laughs. "Alright, fine, I love you too." Etho pats Joel's cheek. "Eat your breakfast and then go." Etho pushes another piece of bacon into Joel's mouth. Joel chews the bacon before saying anything.
"Love you too, Etho." Joel says, as he blushes.
The two of them have always told each other they love each other, it's what they did. But noe Joel started to develop a crush on Etho. His words have a lot of meaning.
Soon, Joel finishes and sprints to class, making Etho laugh.
"How were your classes today?" Etho smiles as he lays his head on Joel's lap and scrolls through social media. Joel runs his fingers through Ethos soft hair absentmindedly. The only thing keeping him happy right now was Etho's soft breathing.
"They went okay, I think." Joel smiles. "How were your classes?"
"They were great! We started programming robots and learning about how the brain of the robot is the most crucial component. The brain is made out of cultured neurons! Without it, the robot wouldn't be able to function. It makes a robot able to have knowledge and the ability to recognize surroundings. It also helps with devision making and reactions. The brain powers every part of the robot body." Etho starts rambling about coding and engineering.
Joel blushes and listens to Etho ramble. He loves listening to Ethos speak. Joel's never had much patience when it came to technology. So whenever Etho gets excited about something new or exciting, Joel listens attentively. He loves hearing Etho ramble about his passion. The way his eyes light up and get so bright, as if he can't contain himself... Joel has never seen anyone so passionate about their work and love as Etho.
"Joel?" Etho's voice breaks Joel out of his thoughts.
"Yeah?" Joel blinks a few times.
"Are you coming to Grian's party on Saturday?" Etho looks up at Joel expectingly.
"I am. Are you?" Joel runs his fingers through Etho's hair.
"I am. We should sit in a corner together and read." Etho jokes.
"Sure, sure." Joel smiles and pulls Etho to sit up on his lap. Etho giggles and leans against Joel.
Joel yawns and leans against the couch, wrapping an arm around Etho's waist. Etho smiles contentedly and snuggles closer to Joel. Both of them drift off to sleep.
Joel wakes up again when he feels something soft brush up against his chest. It's warm, very warm. Joels eyes open to see Etho's head laying on his chest. The rest of his body is between Joel's legs. Ethos hand rests loosely on Joel's thigh. Joel blushes. He gently strokes Etho's forehead with his thumb. Etho sighs quietly and closes his eyes more. Joel chuckles and continues to run his fingertips lightly over Ethos face. Etho stirs slightly and turns his head, pressing his face into Joel's chest. Joel freezes and slowly removes his hand from Ethos face. Etho mumbles something incoherently and wraps his arms tighter around Joel. Etho moves slightly, pulling Joel towards him. Ethos face nuzzled deeper into Joel's chest. Joel lets out a shaky breath and slowly relaxes. Etho's hair tickled against his neck. The gentle rhythm of Ethos breathing lulls Joel into a state where he's completely relaxed. His eyes flutter shut once again, and he falls asleep.
Saturday comes sooner than Joel realized.
Joel is staring at himself in the mirror. He is wearing a plain white t-shirt, a black lether jacket, black jeans, dark green sneakers, and fingerless gloves. "I look like a gangster." Joel laughs and grabs his keys. He drives to Grian's house and sees Etho at the front door talking with his friends.
"Etho!" Joel smiles and waves. Etho looks over, and from what Joel can tell, he smiles. Etho is wearing his face mask, a tight black sleeveless turtleneck under a big baggy hoodie, which is a shade of green, some blue jeans, and black boots, he also has fingerless gloves.
"Hey Joel!" Etho looks down at Joel.
Joel smiles and hugs Etho.
Etho hugs back.
Joel blushes, nuzzling into Etho's warm chest.
Etho's friend Tango whistles and winks at Etho.
Joel's face goes bright red, Etho scoffs and flips off Tango. Lovingly.
"Don't be so rude, Etho-" Tango gasps dramatically. "I'm just trying to be a wingman here!" Tango grins, and Etho rolls his eyes.
Another friend, Impulse, walks over. "Let's get inside before Etho kills you-" Impulse drags Tango inside.
Etho laughs, Joel giggles too.
"I guess we should go inside?" Joel smiles up at Etho.
"Yeah, I'm guessing." Etho replies.
When they walk in, they see Grian.
"Happy Birthday, Grian!!!" Joel smiles and runs over to Grian, giving him a tight hug. Grian laughs and returns the hug.
"Thanks, Joel." Grian hugs back. They pull apart.
"We are going to play games, then eat, then cake and then presents!" Grian smiles.
Joel nods and places his present in the pile, and so does Etho.
As the night goes on, the last game they are playing is spin the bottle. Grian smiles as everyone is sitting on the floor in a circle. "I'm going first! It's my birthday!" Grian grabs the bottle and spins it, it lands on Doc.
Doc's eyes widen, and Grian's cheeks go pink.
"Kiss him! Kiss him!!" Ren cheers.
Grian walks over, leans down, and kisses Doc.
Everyone cheers and hoots.
After the kiss, Grian shyly goes back to his seat.
Doc is sitting there, very flustered.
"Uh- Your turn, Scar!" Grian passes the bottle to Scar.
Scae spins the bottle, and it lands on Cub.
Scar coos. "Come here, Cubby!!" Scar grins and turns to his right to face Cub as Cub's face goes bright red.
Scar grips Cub's chin and kisses him softly. Cub kisses back lovingly. People cheer.
They kiss for around 1 minute until Grian clears his throat.
"Get a room-" Grian scoffs and passes the bottle to Bdubs. Bdubs smiles and spins the bottle, it lands on Etho.
Bdubs blushes and looks at Etho.
Etho glances away, very unsure.
Joel's fingers grip his pants softly.
"Is uh- this ok Etho?" Bdubs asks.
"Yeah- I guess." Etho replies as Bdubs walks over. Bdubs leans down, Etho lowers his mask only slightly as Bdubs kisses him for a second. A lot of people clap and cheer. Not Joel, though. His fingers were digging into his jeans.
"I'll be right back guys-" Joel grins. "I really have to go to the bathroom!" Joel says in fake panic as Cleo laughs at how he gets up and hurries to the bathroom.
Tango glances at Etho.
Bdubs had already gone back to where he was sitting. Etho looks at Tango.
Tango shakes his head in disappointment and makes a head motion to the bathroom.
Etho knows what Tango is suggesting.
Joel comes back out after around 5 minutes and sits back down across from Etho in the circle. Conveniently, it's Etho's turn. He spins the bottle, and it lands on Tango.
Tango's eyes widen. "No way-" Tango crosses his arms. "Respin!" Tango turns and kisses Impulse, whose face turns as red as a tomato.
Everyone laughs.
Etho grabs the bottle and spins it once more. It lands on Joel.
Etho looks up at Joel.
Joel's face is pink. Etho stands up and walks over to Joel. He crouches down, lifts Joel's head slightly, then lowers his mask. He kisses Joel.
They both pull apart. They blush as everyone whistles and claps.
Joel smiles awkwardly at Etho while rubbing his neck.
Etho puts his mask back on as everyone cheers. Etho stays and sits next to Joel.
Soon dinner gets here, and people are sitting in the living room eating pizza and fries.
Joel is sitting outside on the porch swing, eating his pizza. He wanted fresh air.
The front door opens, and he looks up to see Etho.
Etho walks over and sits on the swing with him. Etho lowers his mask.
"They also had chicken tenders inside, I know those are your favorite, so I grabbed you some." Etho grins shyly.
Joel lets out a breathy laugh. "My favorite from like 10 years ago. But thank you." Joel bumps Etho's shoulder with his. They lock eyes. They both smile softly, looking at each other for what feels like forever.
Joel slowly places his plate onto the table next to the swing, Etho does the same to the table on the opposite side. When they turn back, Etho pulls Joel on his lap, Joel let's out a squeak.
"E-Etho!" Joel gasps.
"I love you, Joel." Etho whispers.
Joel is so surprised by this confession that all he manages to say is "Wahhh?!"
Etho's smile widens as he holds Joel closer to him. "I've always loved you... even when we were kids." Etho whispers.
Joel's heart beats furiously in his chest. He leans in and rests his forehead against Etho's.
Etho's hands rest gently on Joel's hips.
"And now, I love you even more.. You're so cute, handsome... And beautiful..." Etho murmurs softly, resting his forehead against Joel's.
"I love you too..." Joel closes his eyes and exhales deeply.
Etho presses his lips against Joel's, and their lips move together smoothly. There is soft humming coming from the two.
Joel breaks apart, but his hand remains in Etho's hair, running through it softly.
Etho wraps his arms tightly around Joel's waist and rests his chin on Joel's shoulder.
"This is nice..." Etho mutters sleepily. He yawns and rests his head against Joel's shoulder.
Joel smiles softly and strokes Etho's hair gently, humming along.
Once the party is over, Joel and Etho meet back at Joel's apartment.
They are currently sitting on the coucn next to each other, fingers locked together.
"Are you my boyfriend?" Joel whispers.
"Only if you want me to be. I mean..I want to be." Etho whispers back and faces Joel.
Joel smiles and brings his free hand to Etho's cheek, caressing it lightly. "Yes. Yes. Of course I want you to be.... I've never wanted anyone else so badly... Ever..." Joel leans forward and kisses Etho. Etho moves his head to deepen the kiss, Etho pushes Joel down onto the couch, deepening the kiss more.
Joel wraps his arms around Etho's neck, pulling him closer. They lay like that for what seems like hours, kissing passionately.
Eventually, Joel lays flat on the couch. Etho lays on top of him, kissing every part of Joel's face and jaw.
When they break apart, Etho's mouth is wet, and his cheeks are flushed a bit. His pupils dilate, and his breaths are deep.
"Etho..." Joel breathes, running his hands through Etho's hair.
Etho bites his lip and stares into Joel's eyes. "I love you..." Etho mumbles and kisses him again.
"I love you too." Joel kisses back, Etho's hand reaches up to tangle in Joel's hair.
"How did I get such a beautiful boy like you?" Joel teases.
Etho smiles.
"Because I fell in love with you..... And I won't ever let anything bad happen to you.... Because I love you..." Etho's voice cracks. He looks down at his chest, his thumb rubbing over Joel's.
Joel cups Etho's cheek and rubs it gently with his thumb. "I love you too..." Joel leans in and kisses Etho, smiling when Etho kisses back. Etho smiles as well.
"Mmm...let's watch a movie." Etho suggests.
"What movie?" Joel asks.
"I don't mind." Etho chuckles.
Joel smirks. "Okay...but don't blame me if we end up watching something stupid."
Etho laughs.
"I love you." Joel whispers.
"I love you too.." Etho giggles.
