                    'Knock Knock Knock'
Tango looks out of his room's window to see Zedaph on the roof. Tango has been living in a foster center for 10 years and Zedaph is someone he met at the park 5 years ago.
"What could he want?" Tango mutters as he scoots over and opens the window. He can't help but smile when he sees a sheepish grin.
"Can I come in, Tango?" Zed asks nervously as he fidgets with his fingers behind him.
He knows he must be getting caught by a guard around the orphanage so he just sighs and moves aside so that Zedaph can climb into his room.
"Hi." The sheep greets him shyly once he enters. Zedaph has never really been comfortable around people, let alone children so Tango finds it odd that he's here. It almost feels like an invasion of privacy but Tango doesn't say anything. Instead he hugs Zedaph.
"Hi." He responds. Zedaph is only a year older than him, he is 17 and Zed is 18.
They stay like this for several minutes before the other boy finally relaxes and hugs back.
"I have something for you." Zed says and pulls away from the embrace only slightly. He holds out a small box that is wrapped in blue paper.
"A gift?" Tango asks as he looks at the box. "For..me?" Tango continues as he looks at Zedaph.
"Yes..for you." He smiles again but this time it seems more confident.
"But why?" Tango asks even as he takes the box. As he unwraps the paper he gets a glimpse inside. A bracelet.
It is beautiful and intricate yet simple and elegant. With each link the different stones are carved in a way to form a complex pattern. Each stone looks like a galaxy with its own unique shape. Some are bright colors while others are softer shades.
Tango doesn't know what to say or do. His mouth is agape. He doesn't realize how long he has stayed there staring at the bracelet until Zedaph speaks up.
"I made it myself..and I made the design especially for you…" Zedaph looks down shyly. "You don't like them, do you? I mean, I should've asked first-"
"No, no it's beautiful." Tango interrupts his rambling. He puts on the bracelet immediately and admires it. It fits his wrist perfectly. He smiles widely, unable to contain his happiness. "Thank you, Zedaph."
Tango hugs the boy again which surprises Zedaph. Zedaph hadn't known how much he had wanted Tango's approval, how he craved for Tango's friendship. But now, standing there hugging him, the smile on his face brighter than any star, he couldn't be happier. Tango is his best friend...and he..he loves Tango.
"TANGO!!!" Ms. Rose the lady running the foster center shouts.
"Coming!" Tango shouts back. "I'll be back Zed. Stay here." Tango jogs out of the room and closes the door.
When he gets to Ms. Rose he see's that she is talking to two adults.
"Yes ma'am?" Tango asks as he stands next to her.
"These two lovely people were willing to adopt you." Ms. Rose says. She gestures towards both boys. One is tall and skinny with light brown hair. The other is slightly smaller, with brown hair.
"You will moving across the country with them if they do adopt you." She smiles.
"What?!" Tango shouts. "Why did they pick me?!" He doesn't want to leave.
"Because they like kids and thought that you would make a great kid." Ms. Rose explains calmly. Tango doesn't look at her. "I can't...!" Tango runs back to his room.
Zedaph jumps up at the sound of the door slamming shut. "Tango?! Is everything okay?!" He asks anxiously.
The other boy didn't answer his question. He was just pacing frantically and clenching his fists tightly. Zedaph hurries over and hugs Tango.
"Run away with me." Tango whispers as he looks Zedaph. There is desperation in his eyes.
"W…what?" Zedaph gasps.
"Please! Run away with me!" Tango says a little louder.
"Are you serious?" Zedaph questions.
"Please..." Tango whispers again.
"But..where would we go? We have no money…" Zedaph whispers back. He feels helpless. How could his friend ever want to run away with him? Why did he suddenly feel like this all of a sudden?
"We can figure something out." Tango reassures him. Zedaph looks at him for a moment. He can see tears welling up in the Tango's eyes. It was clear that Tango really means those words. And so without further hesitation, he agrees.
"Okay." He agrees. "I promise I will take care of you Tango." He smiles.
"I promise too." Tango responds.
They both start packing Tango's things. When they are done, they sneak out the window and just start running. They don't stop for food or to sleep. They keep going until they find a city. That night they crash on a couch in an alleyway. They talk for hours about nothing important. Eventually they fall asleep together, still wearing their clothing from the day before.
The next morning, Zedaph wakes up first and notices that they are holding each other close. He smiles softly as he remembers last night and then realizes that it's morning already. He tries to get up but Tango grips tighter and snuggles closer. Zed can't seem to wiggle out of the other boy's grip. Zedaph decides not to wake him and instead just lets himself stay in the other boy's arms. He closes his eyes and falls back asleep. After another hour or two, they both wake up. The sunlight streaming in through the open curtains makes them groan. Zedaph shifts and yawns as Tango untangles himself and gets off of the couch.
Tango's hair is messy but Zedaph finds it quite endearing. He wants to run his fingers through it. Maybe some other time.
"We need to find a way to make money, so we can eat." Tango sighs.
"Maybe..you could play your guitar?" Zedaph's suggests as he points to the guitar. "Your good at it." Zedaph smiles. "You're really good."
Tango blushes and grabs his guitar. "Maybe town center?" Tango mutters.
"Sounds like a plan." Zedaph nods.
They head towards town center. When they get there they notice the place is very busy.
Tango stands infront of the fountain and starts playing his guitar.
Zedaph places a jar down for tips and watches Tango. He plays for a while but after a few songs, he notices the crowd is growing. Tango continues to play for hours and he gains a large crowd .
Zedaph smiles and walks through the crowds cheering for Tango.
After playing for many hours, Tango gets tired. His hand starts to tremble as he strums the guitar slowly. His breath hitches and he stops. The crowd goes silent and all eyes are on him. Then they start clapping loudly.
Tango feels himself smiling brightly as he bows his head in embarrassment.
"That was amazing!!" An old lady says as she throws her hands in the air in excitement. "You've got such talent, young man."
Tango is embarrassed yet happy at the same time.
Suddenly he sees someone walking towards him.
"Hello there! My name is Xisuma." He lends out his hand. "I'm the owner of a music company."
"Oh…uhm..hello." Tango accepts the handshake and gives him his most charming smile.
"You have great guitar skills. You should consider entering my music industry!" Xisuma exclaims happily. "You can bring your friend."
"Really?" Tango's eyes widen.
He looks at Zedaph who is grinning ear to ear.
"Really." Xisuma grins. "We also offer a variety of lessons. If you decide to join."
Zedaph looks at Tango. He knows how excited Tango always gets when he talks about his dreams for the future.
"Sure!" Zedaph nods.
Xisuma's face lights up as he smiles widely.
When they get to the company Zedaph and Tango see about 20 other people. Xisuma is smiling brightly.
"Everyone! This is Zedaph and Tango! They are our new members!" Xisuma announces.
Everyone greets them with kind words.
It's been 4 years since Zedaph and Tango joined Xisuma' company, and they love it.
"Tango! Tango!" Zedaph runs into their shared room. He sits down next to Tango on the floor. "Look, Tango! I made something!" He presents him with something that looked like a small clay pot. It has little stars painted on it. Tango's eyes widen. "Look at how cute it is! Can we put it on the shelf? Pleeeaaase?" Zedaph whines as his tail twitches happily behind him. He holds the pot close to him and stares adoringly at Tango.
"Of course." Tango laughs. "Put it somewhere safe, okay?"
Zedaph jumps up and runs towards the shelf where he keeps his treasures. "Alrighty! I'll protect it with my life!" He smiles proudly and puts the clay pot away. He sits back beside Tango. They sit in silence for a few minutes. Just watching and admiring the decorations surrounding them.
"Hey Tango..?" Zedaph murmurs as he slowly inches his hand towards Tango's.
Tango freezes and looks at Zedaph wide eyed. He isn't sure how he is supposed to react right now.
"...yeah?" Tango squeaks.
"Could you play a song for me?" Zedaph says slowly as he rubs his thumbs along Tango's knuckles. "Just...for me..No one else." Zedaph whispers.
"Sure." Tango mutters as he grabs his guitar and starts to strum away. Zedaph smiles. As he listens, Zedaph begins to hum a tune under his breath. Tango starts to sing.
*Songfic time;Meteor Shower by Cavetown*
"I've got miles of regrets and confusing friends
But perhaps it's just my stupid head in the end
Thinking should I wait here or make my way home?
You said, "Go" (you said, "Go")
Making up problems that don't exist
Why do I let myself dream like this?
We're floating away, my body's in space
We are going home
Missing pieces of my skull
I'll sew on patches of my own soul
There's nothing you or I can do so let the stars fall
'Cause from up here the sky's my thoughts and we're all so small"
Zedaph blushes, he's never heard Tango sing before.
"Meteor shower, quick take cover
But the hues in our hair compliment one another
I'd sell my own bones for sapphire stones
'Cause blue's your favorite color..
Missing pieces of my skull
I'll sew on patches of my own soul
There's nothing you or I can do so let the stars fall
'Cause from up here the sky's my thoughts and we're all so small..We're all so.."
Tango looks up at Zedaph with a soft blush across his cheeks.
"My heart and the earth share the same rule
It starts with love and it ends with you
But don't go outside, it's dangerous tonight
Without me right here by your side
Take it slow, you'll know
Which way to go
Sew up your skull
Take your time
And we'll be just fine...
Missing pieces of my skull
I'll sew on patches of my own soul"
When Tango finishes singing he lets out a shaky breath.
"That was beautiful," Zedaph whispers.
Tango turns redder and his smile widens as he looks down shyly. His hands shake slightly.
"I'm glad you liked it." he mutters quietly.
Zedaph takes Tango's hands gently in his.
Tango feels his heart pounding
against his chest. His breathing is shallow and fast.
Zedaph leans forward slightly and kisses Tango lightly. Tango's breath catches in his throat.
"I think I love you." Zedaph admits as he kisses Tango more. Tango's hands move up to rest on top of Zedaph's shoulders. He leans into the kiss and returns it. He cups Zedaph's cheek and tilts his head to deepen the kiss even more. The kiss is sweet and tender. Tango's stomach fills with butterflies again.
As soon as they break apart they stare at each other intensely. Their faces are flushed and their hearts beat wildly. The two are holding each other in an embrace. Neither of them is sure what exactly happened. They just sat like that for ages.
"I love you too." Tango breathes softly against his lips.
The two pull away slightly and laugh. They lean together once again and hug tightly. Both feel so happy and full of happiness.
Both of them fall asleep hugging each other close.
Xisuma walks into the room, he sees both boys asleep holding each other on the floor. X smiles, grabs a blanket, and lays it on them. He also takes photos, because father X likes to make his friends embarrassed. X giggles and walks out of the room.
