MEDIUM - Chapter 35: Chapter 35

The End Of An Age & The Beginning Of Another's Reign.

The earth quaked and trembled, a wave of energy rippling through the air and causing everything to haywire, the barriers outside all twelve of them had reacted to this strange power, protecting those inside as best as they could. Adrian suddenly woke up when he felt the earth truly breaking outside and the car alarms creating an unwanted ruckus. "Hey babe, I'd hoped they wouldn't wake you." Jax whispered as he sat next to his mate on the bed. "What's going on, —why is the house using backup power?" Ari asked as he tried to sit up but swayed and Jax caught him.
"Easy there, I'll go get dad, just lay here, dad —pops, it's Ari!" Jax called out as he ran out of the room in only his sweatpants and soon enough the parental unit came rushing in despite Renee being pregnant himself, he seemed fine. "Hey sweetheart, oh goodness, you're burning up, what's wrong, —Jax go get a bowl of warm water and get Johnny down here." Nik immediately stated as Renee sat next to Ari on the bed. "It feels like I'm being split in two." Ari whispered as he heaved. "Ari what's wrong?" Johnny immediately demanded as he walked into the room. "Cover him with your will, if it's anything foreign it should keep it at bay, here love, let's get your temperature down." Nik exclaimed as he placed a midly cool towel on Adrian's head.
The earth shook again, creating more noise outside. "That wasn't me." Ari quickly informed. "Rae says your body is adjusting, you changed a significant part of the future so the ancestors are helping balance out the equation." Lizzie suddenly explained standing by the door, she had been living with them for what was close to two weeks now and found out that Lizzie was gifted much like Adrian, to see ghosts, spirits and whatever else inbetween, it's how she could speak to Rae, an ancestor of Adrian's family. "Can you tell them to hurry up then." Ari hissed as he laid his head back on the as another more dangerous tremor shook the barriers and inturn the house itself.
"What the hell was that?" Johnny questioned as he motioned for Lizzie to come closer to him. "Dad, it's happening again." Mark announced as he walked in with his brothers. "You feel it sweetie, where this time?" Renee quickly asked Mark. "In the forest, there is a man there, with tails, —like older brother Jax but he looks angry, grandpa is there too." Mark replied as he opened his eyes and everyone knew who he was talking about. Mark was also developing abilities, he could see and feel chaotic energy, the cause most of all  so vividly at times it was shocking. "Its him causing the tremors isn't he?" Lizzie asked. "Yeah, unfortunately, —it seems he's finally making his final attack, we need to help, but with Ari out of commission." Johnny exclaimed as they were all stunned to see the witch push himself up.
"I'm better now, —I feel a lot better." He explained as Nik still disagreed. "You need to rest, your temperature is dropping but it doesn't mean whatever the ancestors did is over." The banshee protested. "He's right sweet pea." Renee supported. "I know that, but if we leave Jose alone any longer, he'll come after more people, all I need to do is cut him off from the ancestral realm source and place the reversal spell on his host body to kill the connection he has to it once I'm done, you can bench me, I don't mind." The witch explained as everyone nodded, there was no choice, and there was no other option.
"Fine, —but the moment you put that spell on him Enzo is bringing you back home, or so help me Goddess I will come get you myself." Renee assured as he held on tightly to his son. "I promise dad." Ari muttered as he nodded and let go. "Alright, get ready—." Nik announced but stopped when Enzo ran over to the window and gasped. "Ari activate your shield!" Adrian didn't waste time and snapped his fingers encasing everyone and everything in a dark orange bubble that held against the wave of magical energy that came rolling in from wherever Jose was, it caused another black out and people aswell to fall unconscious, this was definitely Jose's doing.
"We need to go there, sooner than later." Enzo asserted as his body was encased in an orange shield that pressed on him like second skin. "Why didn't we get knocked out?" Lizzie asked in astonishment. "I'm not called the witch of protection for nothing." Ari stated proudly as he was helped off the bed, soon enough he'd be on his sixth month, then birthing, all the while attending online lessons for school, it was tiresome but he was pulling through.
"So do we need anything specific?" Johnny asked as he put on combat boots."No we just need to go kick some ancient booty back to the spirit realm." He boasted as Johnny just chuckled at his antics. "How about we find a way to erase him completely, no return." The wolf offered. "That's exactly what I intend to do." Jax called out as he placed his black katana on his back, he looked hauntingly beautiful in his semi samurai armour that Adrian had created for him. "Great, let's go." Ari exclaimed as he held out his hand and a portal opened that led to where Jose was.
The Felds.
"How dare you Jonathan, how dare you keep me away from my conquest!" Jose yelled as ripples of energy were emitted from his body, ripping the ground apart, shaking the very earth itself, causing damage to everything in the proximity of the man causing them. "These are no longer your glory days Jose, it is over, and it's time you accepted that." The patriarch called out as he growled and in a step he had attacked Jose, punching right into his stomach, then switching his attack to kick his head but Jose was quick to read the attack and used one of his tails as a shield then blasted the patriarch with a single ice beam which never hit the wolf but rather hit the trees behind him, the two separated, growling and hissing toward each other but lightning hailed from above and drove Jose back to where his army was, with five kistune generals.
Adrian and his brothers took the time to appear by the patriarch. "I need him in clear sight, to cut him off and cast the spell, he'll probably use the regiment to keep me away, so I don't know what you'll do." Ari explained as the wolf smiled. "Don't worry about that, we'll create an opening, just be ready, Lorenzo guard him." The wolf replied as he nodded to Jax and Johnny then closed his eyes to order the wolves that had come to fight. "We are ready, let's get to destroying this monster." The patriarch hissed as he took the lead. "Boys on me." He ordered as he attacked first, he created several spheres of his power and shot them straight at Jose who dodged all of them, the armies clashed causing the earth to tremble with explosions.
Jax shot up into the sky and released bolts of lightning on Jose and his second general, the Jaguar who countered with a white hot beam of power, Johnny countered it with one of destruction and came down to roundhouse the jaguar throwing him away. "Lets dance." He growled as the jaguar lunged for him and they began close combat, each of them forcing the other back until Johnny gtabbed his arms and swung him into the trees at back breaking force then shot several blasts of his power after him causing an explosion that burnt the forest.
Jax and the patriarch stood side by side as they faced Jose who scoffed. "This doesn't seem fair now does it nephew, —you may think you have a right, but let me tell you, the totem chose me, I am the wielder of its power not you." He hissed as the realization came to Ari through Jax, the statues in the ancestral realm, they were totems, the spiritual source of those chosen to lead, but Jose had been corrupted, he still pulled because of his gift but it wasn't to be. "We'll see about that." Jax whispered as he lunged for Jose with his katana, slashing upward at the kistune forcing him to flip back and pull out a blade of his own and parry away Jax's terrifyingly accurate swings.
As he parried the next blow away, Jose couldn't predict what happened next as Jax made his blade vanish and his tails appeared seemingly to attack but on contact they vanished and from behind Jose a thick beam of black energy was blasted onto him exploding when it hit him, Jax didn't pull back, he dove straight into the smoke, and round house kicked the kistune throwing him into the path of yet another one of Sonia's attacks, a green energy enveloped the man and began causing him excruciating pain whilst draining his mana, from above Enzo cast a demonic circle that blasted the kitsune with golden hell fire damaging him even more.
"Now Adrian!" The patriarch called out. "By the power given to me by the Goddess and my ancestors, let the totem of the nine tailed fox hereby reject you Jose Malain, let it take back what is not owed to you and what nature will not allow you to have." Adrian called out with the distorted voices of many as a single beam of brilliant orange light cascaded from above and onto Jose. "No!" He screamed as Adrian began his spell. "Sacruvati ketukhe revere — mortem diveris nogute elios deriter —may the body and soul of the one you posses find peace, may the balance be restored as you are cast out, sodriveris egnus!" The witch completed his spell as runes appeared on Jose, burned themselves on him like scorching embers until they charred his skin with black soot.
"No, you will not take his victory!" The jaguar that aided Jose yelled as he attacked with all he had, it hurtled toward Ari in an explosive wave but a shield appeared around him. "No power shall overcome the Medium!" Adrian proclaimed as the jaguars attack vanished and Enzo appeared next to him. "Let's go." The demon exclaimed and Ari nodded as Enzo ported away with him. "No you bitch, come back, —face me, give me back my right!" Jose yelled as power just rippled out but nolonger with the quackes it had caused before, he nolonger had the power to bring such devastation.
"Look at you now,  let's see who has the true right to lead the kitsune clan reborn." The patriarch howled, so loudly that his wolves answered back and pulled back, but they had already decimated the small force Jose had brought, Johnny and Sonia had already knocked out or killed his generals and Enzo had cast a prison on the jaguar that attacked Ari before he left, so it was now Jax against his uncle. "We'll do it together." Johnny told Jax but the kitsune refused. "As you are the future of the wolves, he is the future of all kitsune born, he must prove that here, and stake his claim, we must not interfere." The patriarch explained as Jose lunged for Jax.
The two fell into the trees, tumbling on the forest floor as human bodies shifted into two foxes, one dark orange with black runic marks, the other a dark purple which was riddled with white symbols that pulsed an ancient curse. "Lets finish this." Jose hissed as he lunged for Jax with claws aimed right at his throat, but Jax did something unexpected, he made his katana appear and he dove under the clawed arm to cut through Jose's ribs, he flipped up into the air whilst slicing through his back causing another hiss to escape Jose, who switched to a hand stand and kicked Jax away, but his nephew only seemed to use the trees and caught himself then began running around him, Jose was annoyed as he concentrated nature energy blasting it all around the forest igniting it on fire.
Jax blended with the fire as his tail glowed green and vines shot up from the ground and imapled his uncle, another tail turned black and so did the vines, he only needed to ignite them to cause Jose pain, and he did howl in pain as the vines had torn of flesh, the kitsune lunged for Jax again so they rolled on the ground, Jose with his fangs sunk  them into Jax's shoulder whilst the other's blade was imbedded in his stomach ripping and cutting him up. When they separated Jax's eight tail glowed and his demonic fog rolled out pulling mana from nature and his opponent who didn't suspect it until he felt the fiery heat of flames come from his left, and he was forced to shoot upward where Jose followed.
He kicked Jax back down but Jax caught his leg and swung Jose away but caught two of his tails bringing him back to blast him with lightning that caused the air to sizzle, Jose only got angrier as they began to fight in close combat, none of them except a few like the patriarch and Johnny could see the two move as they fought, the air hummed and reverberated with their punches, and attacks until a blast of fire exploded between the two causing them to separate, both aimed beams of demonic energy at each other causing another explosion that had their spectators in awe.
"They are evenly matched." Sonia mumbled. "No they aren't." Both Johnny and the patriarch simultaneously replied as more explosions caused everyone to move back at their sheer power. Jax was heaving as he was facing Jose who was also heaving. "Stupid boy, you won't defeat me!" Jose yelled as a purple mist exploded from his body and covered the area they floated above, Jax trusted his power as powerful whirlwinds raged around him clearing away the mist in time to see Jose attacking, a sharpened pillar aimed at his head came for him but he kicked it back as more came at him, he either destroyed them or kicked them away but soon Jax realized Jose was stalling and he was proven right when the mist suddenly cleared and a beam of purple energy hit him head on.
"Jax!" Johnny screamed as his brother had been hit by an explosion bigger than anything they had done before. "No, let him fight." The patriarch steadied Johnny in a bear hug as they watched Jose laugh in his victory. Jax was on the ground paralyzed, only Ari had ever hit him that hard before, the world seemed to spin around him, lightning sparked in the sky and a low hum echoed in the air. "You are the last son of Malain, it is your destiny to lead your brethren into the new age, take up this mantle, —fight for what is yours, because only you, are worthy." Jax would'nt have believed the voices but he couldn't be imagining the totem or statue that his mate had shown him before when he was in the spirit realm, he was hearing the totem itself as an orange crescent moon burned itself on his shoulder.
Jax's eyes suddenly opened and the ground he stood on shook with his newfound power. "No it can't be." Jose stated in shock as Jax punched his cheek causing several teeth to get knocked out, the roar of his supporters was unmistakable, he appeared in the forest where Jose had tumbled. "I have had enough of you to last a lifetime." He hissed blasting the kitsune with raw demonic power unlike before, it seared his fur and made him crash into more trees as Jax shot up into the sky his fur changed colour, it turned black with orange runes on his fur, pillars appeared around him aswell rotating, waiting to be commanded, Jose shot up from the ground, his own pillars behind him. "Lets end this nephew." He called out as he poured all of his mana into one single blow.
Jax did the same as his sphere grew, grew so large it was as if it would cover the moon, it was the same with Jose who growled as finally he'd be rid of the boy who took his power, in one single push the two powers hurtled toward each other and collided with forceful impact, one trying to overcome the other, Jose pushed, —pushed with all his strength but it was not enough, Jax finally pushed, pouring all his power and emotion into it and it did overcome his uncle's attack, the explosion first caused a gale to rip trees out of the ground, air was bent as the earth was enveloped in a fiery cataclysm.
No creature alive could've survived but he did, that's how Jose was, he was resilient but only for so long, Jax was still in his kitsune form, but Jose nolonger had his shifted form, he was now human, broken, bleeding and barely moving. "It is time to end your reign on this earth, you must release him before he dies too." Jax ordered but Jose scoffed. "Already arrogant nephew, just like Jonathan over there, —you are noble, but there is nothing to save in this body, his soul passed on long ago, he could not stand my will." Jose replied as he coughed and Jax's tail moved to impale his stomach, it turned a glowing white as in turn his mate's spell became active and Jose's soul was ripped out of the body.
"Goodbye uncle." Jax whispered as he created a sphere of orange light in his palm, it grew and changed, accumulating power until Jax released it in one blow destroying whatever hold he had left in the world, Jose screamed as finally he was erased completely. Jax breathed deep letting go of the power he had accumulated, it cascaded out of him rolling out in powerful waves, restoring what Jose had destroyed, putting back the upturned earth and it seemed to be one, as if the damage had never been done before. "He's accepted his duty, it will take time to accept and move on from this, but I have faith —Jax will be alright." Johnny senior stated as Johnny junior nodded in acceptance. "I believe you're right, it'll be okay."
