Midge the Neko - Boyxboy -complete- - Chapter 14: Chapter 14

Midge had never in his entire life had a day quite this good, except for maybe yesterday.  He'd seen wonderous, amazing things today.  He learned that at the movies, Scott could buy a popcorn bucket that was bigger than his head.  He had sat in between Scott and Kelly with the huge bucket resting on his lap for the entire show.  He'd almost forgotten that they were there to see a movie until the lights went dark and he was pulled out of his popcorn stupor.
They'd even let him help pick the movie.  Scott had asked what he'd wanted to see and he'd requested a cartoon so they'd watched Big Hero 6.  It was amazing, and a cartoon so even when bad things happened, it wasn't real.  He did feel bad about the explosion but not long afterwards he was pulled into the excitement.
Afterwards they'd gotten him something called a milkshake. It was ice cream in a cup that was already half melted!  Scott said his was for his sore throat but Kelly didn't seem to think so.  The world was amazing.  The best thing though was that no one had really stared at him and no one had tried to grab him.  He had Scott and Kelly there to do all the talking and take care of things, so he just hung back and enjoyed it.
He'd fallen asleep in the car on the ride home and he was still mad at himself.  There were so many things to see!  He couldn't help it though, he was tired.  Scott had laughed at him when they got home and joked that he'd had a cat nap.  Now Scott was in his room taking his own cat nap but had promised to wake up in an hour or so.
Scott was in bed trying to nap, but it wasn't happening.  Being even this far away from Midge felt wrong and pointless.  He couldn't invite him in though, didn't want to give him the wrong idea.  Check that, Midge already had lots of wrong ideas, Scott just wasn't 100% sure he could keep his hands and lips to himself.  He really, really needed a date.
Scott rolled over, fluffing his pillow and closing his eyes, trying to clear his mind.  He was glad that Kelly finally knew, finally understood.  He had been right about the pair of them, too.  She had already taken Midge under her wing and he had no doubt they'd be besties in no time.  She'd be a good influence on him and Midge needed as many friends as he could get.
But what was Scott going to do with him?  He had a show out of town this weekend and it's not like he could bring him along.  Could Midge stay at the apartment by himself?  He really needed to get Midge a phone and make sure he knew how to use it before leaving.  He rubbed his eyes as if that would magically erase some of the millions of issues surrounding Midge.
The fact was, he was in way over his head.  Midge was a cat and a boy and in some ways almost a child, and also amazing and funny and strong and Scott didn't know what to do with even half of that.  Midge probably needed a therapist, hell, Scott probably did too but if he called around looking for someone to talk to a Neko, they'd lock both of them up in padded rooms.
He got out of bed, giving up on his nap.  Maybe they could snuggle on the couch and watch some TV and he could get some rest that way.  Maybe Midge would offer him another amazing head rub.  GAH that had been.... literally the best thing ever.  He opened the bedroom door and heard Midge giggling.  "Hey" he said, walking around the corner "What's amusing you?"
"The spider walks.  Look, you just wind it up and let it go, like this."  He put the spider down and watched it inch its way across the floor about 8 inches before it ran out of juice.
"I'm glad it amuses you.  We really need to get you a hobby though.  What do you like to do?"  He sat down on the couch, hoping Midge would join him.
"I do not know" he answered, sitting down with Scott.
"Don't make me come up with a list of things I think a catboy would enjoy.  Knitting?"
"No, I do not know how."
"Balls?  Do cats like balls?  Yeah, with the bells."
"No" he said, not impressed.
"Okay, I got it!  You must love fishing."
He just shook his head while Scott laughed.
"I'm sorry.  Seriously though, what do you do all day?"
"I clean and watch TV and nap.  I can do whatever you would like me to do."
"No, hobbies are FUN.  Things you do for fun.  You don't read, obviously, so no computer either, right?  Do you like video games?"
"I have seen them, and commercials about them but I have never played one."
"Aren't you bored?"
"Sometimes, I guess but I do not remember feeling bored very much."
"But, okay, I get that you were taking care of Trent with a lot of your time but what did you do all day with the others?"
"Healed, slept, cleaned if I was unchained.  I just waited.  I just... I waited."
Scott sighed, then put his arm on the back of the couch.  "You can come over if you want."
He didn't have to ask twice, there was nowhere Midge would rather be.  He tucked into Scott's larger frame, glad to be able to feel his heartbeat.  When Scott's arm came down to rest across his back he closed his eyes and settled in, relaxing.  "Sometimes I draw things."  He hadn't planned on telling him but he felt so safe right now that it slipped out.
"Ah, there we go.  What do you draw?"
"Whatever I can see out the window or sometimes things from my head and sometimes feelings."
"We'll get you whatever you need tomorrow.  We need to return some things to Wally world and grab you some undies, and I'm sure they have some paper and pencils or whatever you use.  I have rehearsal too, maybe you'd like to come with me."
"Whatever you would like."
"No, whatever YOU'D like, little one."
"I would like to sleep in bed with you tonight then.  Thank you."
"That's...." and he closed his mouth because even though it wasn't what he'd meant, he knew it was what Midge truly wanted and it was one of the first things he'd ever asked of Scott.  "That's fine."  He was going to need a shower first though; a long, thorough shower.
