"I'm so sorry, Nellie," Noel choked out, his voice cracking. "I mean it. But Rian and I... we have history. She was on her knees begging me, Cornelia. Sobbing. What was I supposed to do—just walk away?"
He crushed me against his chest, ignoring how I fought to push him off. "Just give me a chance to make this right. I'll drag Rian to Mom's grave myself—make her apologize on her knees. Would that satisfy you?"
An apology? To Mom?
What good would that do now? Could "sorry" magically bring her back?
I put all my strength into shoving him away, then cracked my palm across his face. "Jesus Christ, Noel! How can you even suggest that?!"
The slap left an angry red mark, but he didn't retaliate. Just stared at me like I was speaking another language. "Nellie," he finally said, voice turning sickeningly sweet, "I'll treat you like gold from now on. Helping Rian was just... old loyalties. But that's done. Let's focus on us, okay? On our future."
His tone turned pleading. "Hating them won't rewrite history. Can't you see that?"
I couldn't even look at him. Just pivoted toward the door.
His hand clamped around my wrist. "Don't walk away. Please."
"Get your hands OFF me!" I snarled, wrenching free. My whole body shook with fury. "You disgust me!"
I didn't stop until I was blocks away. Could still feel his stare burning into my back—heavy, desperate. Didn't glance back once.
Home. Computer. All the damning videos, texts, receipts compiled into one explosive clip. Uploaded to Clipzy under a burner account.
At first—crickets. Then I called in a favor from a media contact. Within hours? Nuclear detonation.
Trending #1. Shares multiplying like viruses. Comments sections flooding with outrage. Journalists blowing up my DMs.
I laid everything bare—every dirty detail with proof. The internet did the rest.
Noel and Brianna? Public enemy #1 and #2.
Some tech whiz enhanced the footage, zooming in on Brianna's face until it was crystal clear. Her agency got doxxed. Noel's dirty laundry aired. The outrage tsunami crashed over every official channel demanding consequences.
His call came late that night. Voice trembling with rage.
"What the hell did you do?!"
"Justice," I said icily.
"For what? Your mom's gone!" he exploded. "How many times—Rian regrets it! Why keep dragging this out? You trying to bury us with her?"
Didn't even let me speak. "This is just your sick grab for fame!" he spat. "Using your dead mother for clout. Ever think about collateral damage?"
Right. Because viral attention was totally my endgame—not making them pay for how they destroyed Mom. Left her dying full of regrets.
They deserved hell. Suffering. A lifetime of sleepless nights.
This? Just the opening act.
Noel's voice dropped to something dangerous when he realized I wouldn't fold. "Last warning, Cornelia. Keep this up... and you'll regret it."
I hung up. Posted the call recording. Installed a hidden cam by my door. Checked into a motel.
Midnight. Right on schedule—thugs pounding on my apartment door. Screaming death threats. The glint of a blade under the hallway light.
