"We have to kill Eren"
The future was set, and you were going to have to kill one of your best friends. You knew you yourself wouldn't do it, that job would go to Armin, or probably Mikasa. The past couple months since Annie's release from the crystal had been hellish. Eren released titans around the world, killing millions. You and the other scouts tried to stop them, but instead of saving people, you lost you commander for the second time. The loss of Hanji hit you all hard, especially Levi. You could see the weight on his shoulders had gotten heavier, and you felt nothing but pity.
You had been fighting nonstop, and spending time with Annie in the brief cracks of free time; stealing kisses and holding onto her in the few seconds between tasks and missions you had. With the female titan in service of the survey corps, Annie was being used more and more as an asset. You were worried about her, and you did your best to stick by her side, but it didn't stop her from getting hurt.
The weeks flew by in a flurry of chaos. Eventually a time came when Eren would be open for the shot, and you knew the time had come. Everyone was tense, and especially Mikasa was in her own head. You tried to be there for her, but the two of you had never really been that close.
As the days go by, you prepare and head out, meaning to meet Eren and end this war once and for all.
. . .
Smoke and dust filled your lungs as you tried to keep yourself alive. Gunfire and rumbles were the only things you could hear, as man and beast battled from around you. You could see Eren in the distance; the large form of the founding titan never ceased to make you afraid.
You yourself were covered in scrapes and cuts, as you try to keep the swarm of pure titans away from your comrades.
You were afraid. Not like you've ever been before.
Your friends had been turned into pure titans, and you started who used to be Connie and Jean down. Unable to kill them. The only thing that made your friends distinguishable were their eyes. That was the cruellest part. A one who wasn't much of a drinker, you didn't consume the wine, and therefore weren't turned. They were closing in on you, and for the first time in a long time, you believed your end was near. So many of your friends were gone. This battle would be the end. Of the war or the world, you didn't know. Looking back at Eren's bony figure, you could see a flash of metal.
There's Mikasa you thought to yourself, before everything went black.
. . .
A flash of light, a figure in the distance, and everything cam back to you.
You choked on dust as you picked your body off of the ground. You saw figures through the smoke; Connie and Jean. Human Connie and Jean. You get up to call towards them, and see a third figure in the clouds.
Sasha.
You knew it was just an illusion: the cries of others calling out to loved ones passed, as each ghostly figure drifts away with the smoke.
You swing your head side to side, searching the figures for the one that mattered the most to you.
Please don't be dead oh god please don't be dead your weak body shuffled through the debris. After minutes of searching, you got nervous.
Until, through the smoke, you saw the distant sun glint off gold hair, and silhouette of the girl you love.
Annie Leonhart.
And she was okay.
You were okay.
