"Subjects of Ymir, my name is Eren Yeager..."
Your ears rung and your eyes hurt as your senses were flooded. You were with the other scouts back in Paradis on a break mission. You sat with Jean and Connie; both still deeply rattled by the loss of their best friend Sasha. Lunch was in a few hours, but you didn't feel like eating.
You didn't feel much these days.
Not uncommon for war to take a toll on people, god knows you can tell your other comrades have been worn thin, but it was something none of you really talked about. You all felt it better to let the would fester, instead of having to reopen it.
When lunch came, you ate a few bites of bread and took a few sips of ale, before feeling full. You stand up from your seat and turn to leave; maybe take a walk to think. Or visit Annie. You make your way over to the door, and out of the corner of your eye you see a small figure hiding under the scouts cloak. You though nothing of it as you stopped to chat with a friend for a couple minutes, before leaving properly. As the door closes behind you, you hear a commotion in the hall, but soon fall out of earshot in your haste to see Annie.
Was it pathetic? That you were so attached to a girl that might as well be dead? That probably doesn't care about you like you care for her? You shook the thoughts form your head as you made your way down several flights of stairs towards Annie's room.
On the landing, you see Hitch Dreyes standing in front of the door, locking it.
"Oh, sorry Hitch I uh, need to get in there". Hitch knew you visited Annie often and let some rules slide when it came to you.
She whipped around at the sound of your voice. "I- uh, sorry y/n but you can't go in there" she said, tucking the keys away.
"C'mon Hitch. You know me" you argued, stepping towards the door. Hitch herself moved in front of it, blocking you.
You were getting irritated, as you usually were these past few months. All you wanted to do was see Annie, and Hitch was blocking your way.
"Get out of the way Hitch" you said as you lunged to the side and grabbed the keys from her. She tried to rip them from your hands but you shoved your body in front of the door as you opened with a speed of one near death.
Once again Hitch tries to stop you from entering the room, causing the both of you to stumble through the door.
The sight makes your stomach drop.
There was water everywhere; chunks of pale blue crystal and piece of broken wood scattered around the room.
No Annie.
Panic starts to seep into your system. You grab Hitch by the collar, (rougher than you needed to) and pulled her so she was facing you.
"Where is Annie" you say through your teeth, rage and fear taking over your body.
You underestimated Hitch however, she grabbed your hands and flipped you onto your back; your body hitting the cold wet stone and knocking the air out of you.
"Don't ever grab me like that" Hitch starts, anger in her expression. "And Annie's fine. Just let her come to you. She's scared."
Your mutual worry for Annie lapses the two of you into silence. Hitch's grasp on your jacket loosens and you get up off the floor, feeling water deep through your jacket.
You thank her and walk off in silence. You know she said to let Annie come to you, but you spent the next several hours looking for the blonde.
As the sun began to set, you let your search fall short. No one had seen her, and everyone thought you were crazy. You walked a few blocks to a small field nearby, the grass overgrown and shadowed by trees.
You sat in the grass, your head in your hands. To be honest, you felt like crying.
You sat there for what felt like hours, but was only a few minutes. The only noise was the wind through the grass and the early summer bugs.
And quiet footsteps.
You ignore them. If they meant you harm, they would have hurt you already. You hoped they got the message, as the area behind you was silent.
"Y/n"
Time stopped as you heard the voice that had been missing from your life, for the first time in four years. Your head slowly lifts from your arms, as you feel the presence behind you getting closer. You turn slowly, afraid to break whatever illusion this was. Your eyes land on the girl, highlighted by the setting sun, covered in gold.
You raise yourself up from your spot slowly, eyes glued on the girl you love. She was here. In person. For the first time in four years, her beautiful blue eyes were open. And they were glued on you.
Like castaways starved of food, or magnets getting too close, you and Annie threw yourselves at each other, gripping the other like you needed them to breathe. You pressed yourself against Annie as hard as you could, and you lifted her off her feet, burying your face in her neck, inhaling the scent you just almost forgot.
Annie herself clung to you like there was no tomorrow, her hands around your neck almost choking you.
Your body was a rush and you were overwhelmed, and you fell to your knees with Annie still in your arms, and she just let the two of you fall. At this point, tears were running down your face as you buried your face in her soft golden hair. She must have showered recently.
The two of you sat in the long grass until the sun had dipped well below the horizon. You held onto each other, making up for the years you had lost together.
In shyness, Annie had told you she heard everything in the crystal, your professions of love breaking through the haze in which she existed. You hid your face but Annie moves her head to lean onto yours. The best you could do was mumble all your romantic words again, as Annie cuddles into your warmth like you've never seen her do before. Her head rubbing up under your chin as she turns her face into your chest.
You lapsed into silence again, content just be be with Annie again. She mumbles something that you couldn't hear.
"I'm sorry Annie?" You said, turning your head downwards to hear her.
" I love you too y/n"
