I pushed down the turmoil inside me. "I need some time to think this through carefully."
Margaret caught me off guard with her next question. "Just out of curiosity—do you have any proof of your uncle assaulting you?"
I let out a tired sigh. "I was in shock when it happened. By the time I could even process it, I'd already scrubbed myself raw in the shower. Any evidence is long gone."
For the next few days, I holed up in a hotel. Ethan kept blowing up my phone, demanding to know when I'd show up to finalize the divorce.
Even though I was the one who'd been wronged, guilt ate at me. In a moment of weakness, I agreed to his terms—walking away with nothing.
On the day we were supposed to file the papers, I put on my favorite dress and did my makeup, determined to face him with some dignity.
But the second I stepped inside our home, my stomach dropped. Someone else's lingerie hung on the balcony—definitely not mine. As I walked through the rooms, the signs were everywhere: another woman had taken my place.
The realization hit me like a punch to the gut. No wonder Ethan was in such a damn hurry to get rid of me—he'd been cheating this whole time.
A cold, sickening thought slithered into my mind: Had he been in on what Vincent did to me?
It wasn't just paranoia. Ethan had been the one pushing me to take that nursing job for Vincent in the first place.
For all I knew, this entire nightmare had been their twisted plan from the beginning.
My hands shook as fury and betrayal coursed through me. If this was how little I meant to him, then I had nothing left to lose.
While the house was empty, I planted a tiny camera in our bedroom—the same bed where we'd shared so many nights. Every movement would stream straight to my phone.
Once it was set up, I called Margaret. She practically vibrated with excitement. "Luna! Have you made up your mind?"
"I have. I'll take your deal—but the Beverly Hills house gets transferred to me first. And the money..."
"Done! Where are you? I'll come get you right now."
I gave her a random address, and soon she whisked me away to the mansion.
Seeing Vincent again turned my blood to ice. His hungry stare made my skin crawl. Margaret gave us a knowing smile before shutting the door behind her.
Vincent crowded me against the wall, his teeth scraping my ear. "You look even more stunning than I remembered, Luna. I've waited too long for this."
He knew exactly how to play me. Within minutes, I was lost in the heat of it—part pleasure, part bitter revenge against Ethan.
But even in the haze, I kept my goal in mind. When Vincent wasn't looking, I carefully collected his DNA.
After his first attack, I'd documented every bruise. Now, with this evidence, I could nail him for rape.
But that meant walking away with nothing. For a heartbeat, I hesitated—maybe I should just take the money and run.
Then my phone buzzed with a notification from the hidden camera. What I saw on that screen broke me completely.
I'd braced myself to see Ethan with some random woman. But I never imagined it would be her.
