Felix gave me a cold smirk. "We all graduated just a few years ago—none of us have savings. But somehow you bought a house outright? Unless you were sleeping around or being kept, who'd believe that?"
Quentin jumped in, "Cut the act, Evelyn. You're the one who should be ashamed."
I couldn't believe this was what they really thought of me.
Their words cut deeper than any knife.
"Look, I'm open-minded, yeah. I dated around in college—so what? But I was serious in every relationship. I never screwed anyone over. Believe it or not, I didn't sell myself out. Think whatever you want, but unlike you, I still have self-respect!"
"If you want to play these sick little games, go ahead—count me out. And since this is how you see me, we're done. My place isn't open to you anymore."
I took a sharp breath. "You've got until 4 PM tomorrow to get out. If you're still here, I'll have security drag you out myself."
I ripped the ring off my finger. "We're through, Quentin. Tonight, I'm adding up every damn cent you ever took from me—every meal, every drink. Pay me back, or I'll take you to court."
"You make me sick. So tonight's little party? That's on your tab."
I grabbed my bag, knocking over three unopened bottles of Ace of Spades on my way out. At the bar, I spun around and ordered two packs of their most expensive cigarettes—charged to Luna Evans' account.
I didn't go home. Instead, I flagged down a cab and checked into a hotel near my office.
