"Don't stop, Damn you're almost there!"
I sighed hitting my head at the back of the driver's seat as my dad missed the parking spot again. The school wasn't even that big but this week was signing in so everywhere was almost full. Dad was being a too careful driver and from the looks of it if we don't get it on with, I might not get to my dorm until midnight. "Oh come on." I whined, pouting.
"We could have collided if I didn't stop," Dad tried to defend himself and mum agreed with a gentle rub on the shoulder.
"You guys should have just let me come by myself, I don't see many students with their parents and I can drive." I complained again, hitting my head on the seat.
"Paxton Flynn stop being an ingrate okay," mum started, turning to glare at me. "No many people came with their parents that's the more reason you should feel really happy and blessed."
"I'm eighteen."
"That's still very small," mum said, "always remember that. Eighteen doesn't mean you're all grown. Plus my mum didn't do this for me and I swore I'd follow my kid." She crossed her arms in front of her, "Percy would probably go so far, I'd never get the chance to and Tricia's still very young."
I shut up after that before I turn on my mum's rant mood and I end up never leaving the car. I silently wished I'd gone very far too but then I mentally slapped myself. Regardless of them, I have always wanted to be close to comfort - home. Going so far was too scary and now I couldn't even. I had a boyfriend back home I planned on visiting most weekends. Remembering my boyfriend, I brought out my phone to check my text but seeing the last one made me remember we agreed to continue texting after I've gotten all settled up in my room.
I sighed dropping my phone down and looking out the window, I could see many many people. Students from different towns and places walking about alone or in pairs carrying one thing or the other. "You guys are so gonna embarrass me," I mumbled out, horrified at the thought of being called a Mama's boy in college.
Well, they are different from high school. Things like that don't happen here, right? Plus the people I see now, I probably won't see much of again. I'd just be one in the crowd.
"Don't worry Pax, we'd chill in the car until it's time to move to your dorm." Dad said, clearly understanding me more than mum. I don't blame her though and I see where she's coming from but if not for her, I'd have driven here or taken the bus here alone. Sebastian would have taken me, I thought missing him already.
"Sure Dad," I answered as we finally found a space to park. I got out of the car, taking my school map with me and stepping on the freshly cut campus grass. It's like they completely tidied up the school for us new intakes, everyway looked way cleaner that my highschool did on Mondays.
I got through with everything and soon I was parking into my dorm room with my parents. Now that I was inside the school I realized that all my worries had been for nothing because there were a lot of parents here, accompanying their wards in and inspecting everywhere. I was grateful I had my parents with me too.
We entered the room and the first thing I noticed was the blue painted walls and soft grey rug occupying the center of the room. Mum seemed impressed. "This way, you'd mostly be warm. Don't step on it though, would ruin the good thing."
I held in the need to role my eyes seeing that one part of the room was already occupied. There was an open traveling bag on the bed, books on his desk and a picture on the wall. He wasn't done parking that's for sure.
"The bathroom is really inside," Mum said in happiness, pulling open.
"They wouldn't lie about that mum." I told her watching her walk in and yelp coming out.
"Sorry," a voice said from inside the bathroom and in a second a lanky tall guy walked out taking off the rubber gloves he had on. He smiled at my mum, "hope I didn't scare you much ma'am?"
"Oh it's no problem, I should've knocked," mum said looking a bit winded as she walked back to us, sitting her butt down on my naked foam. I looked at her and tried not to laugh, he totally scared her.
"You must be the roommate," Dad said, getting up from where he was inspecting the fridge.
"Yes sir," his eyes moved from my dad to me. "I'm Sim, uh Simon."
I nodded, "I'm Paxton. When did you come in?"
"Earlier today, I've been tidying up since then," he gestured to the bathroom, "was cleaning that place up a little."
I nodded for lack of words to say and looked him over. He was taller than me a little maybe 5"8 or something, dark skin with bleached milkly hair, he had a lanky football body and dark brown eyes. He was okay in the looks department and even with his bleached hair, gave off the vibe of a very serious person. I looked away from Sim soon enough and joined my parents in putting my things in place. Mum helped with my clothes, then help Sim with his, chatting his ear up. Dad helped with the fridge and setting up my mini library shelve up on the wall. I put my bed and desk together. Soon we were done and I was escorting them out of school.
"This isn't the time to be lazy, you aren't at home anymore. Gonna have to step up," Mum continued talking advicing me as I walked them to the car. "That Simon seems very responsible and neat, you guys might likely argue because of that."
"I'm not dirty," I argue giving her the 'are you kidding me' look.
She gave me the look right back, "I've seen your room Paxton. I lived with you all your life."
"That's mostly Percy's dirt." I defended.
"Whatever, just be a good boy okay?" She said cupping my face up with a worried look.
"I will ma," I hugged her. I'd really do my best.
"If you have any problems at all, I'm 200km away."
After waving them off, I felt a little teary myself but I got myself together before going back to my dorm. I greeted some other guys I met in the hallway, they all seemed friendly even though most were too busy to say more than two word. The Hallway Assistant, Xander and some other people were giving away flyers and some telling stories of the campus and dorms. I hurriedly got back to my room, setting the three flyers I got on my desk. Not that I didn't want to socialize or anything, I would in due time. Now I just wanted to be done with my room, talk to Seb and maybe get to know a little more about Sim. Speaking of Sim he was still busy with his head phones on now, blocking the world out. Well, I don't know if he could hear me but I wasn't planning on disturbing him at all.
Me - I think I'm finally done. Could use a fulllll body massage rn. [Sent]
I sent the message and threw my phone back on the bed, going to my wardrobe to search for what pajamas to wear. Yep, I don't plan on going out again.
"You're going to sleep?" I heard Sim ask as I pulled on a tee shirt over my plain pajama pants.
"Not really but I'm just getting ready before hand. Why?"
"You don't plan on attending the dorm introduction stuff? It's happening around 9pm later today. It's compulsory? And I don't think you'd want to introduce yourself in pajamas." He noted kindly and I picked on an accent he had, I don't think it's all that foreign but it's not one I'm used to.
"Oh shit, I completely forgot." I face palmed myself and he chuckled a bit. "Thanks for the reminder."
"No worries."
My phone buzzed just then and I rushed to open the text from Sebastian.
Crown Prince - you're making me wish I was there more and more. I'd grateful help out. Which one of us do you think would turn into a magician with teleporting powers soonest? [Received]
I smiled, jumping on my bed and texting him back.
Me - me definitely. It's just been five hours and I want to hop on a train and come see you. [Sent]
Crown Prince - I hope you're fine regardless. Met your roommate yet? How's the dorm? Can I see? [Received]
I turned to Sim. "Hey it's okay if I do a video of the room right? My boyfriend wants to see." I cautiously watch him as I said the word boyfriend but he didn't flinch or look surprised.
"Yeah sure," was all he said. I was liking him already.
I switched to a video call, my heart leaping as I see Sebastian's face appear on the screen. He still hasn't gotten his little stubble out yet, says it makes him look more older and get more respect from customers at the bar. I don't mind it at all, I love the new roughness it gives to his face. But today he was whining about how he's gonna take it off and I'd miss on it completely. I figured it was just a bribe to get me stay one day more, but my parents wouldn't give in.
"Hi."
He grinned, "you're looking like a uni guy already."
I burst out laughing, "how? I've just been here five hours."
"More than enough if you ask me," he says, "what weekend are you coming back? Should I just drive by?"
"Drive by 200km? How sweet Seb," I shook my head. "Eyes open, I'm showing you the room now." I jumped off the bed, going to stand on the rug barefoot. "That's my bed, can you imagine my luck, the wall paint is blue." I gushed, turning the phone back to my face so I could see him. "I was scared it was gonna be something like green for nothing."
"Or black." He piped in.
"I told you no one paints black, it's not a cult."
"And I told you that bullshit, I'd love to paint my room black." He said, then wiggled his brows at me.
My jaw fell, "Sebastian don't you even dare. I don't want to sleep in a room painted black, that's like begging for nightmares. I won't come back if you do that."
He burst out laughing, I was sure Sim could hear him from the phone. "I was joking, I didn't even say anything."
I huffed, turning the phone away from my face again. "That's our wardrobe, bigger than I imagined but still small. We have a really cool fluffy rug and that's my roommate Sim." Sim waved into the phone before I turned it back to my face.
"It's small but cool." Sebastian said nodding in approval.
"Yeah, just enough I can handle with Sim."
We video chatted for a while before we switched back to normal chats. I even conversed with Ryder who was still packing into her room, we were in the same school and I'd go see her tomorrow. Landon was preparing for his flight tomorrow and was still at home, savouring his last-in-a-long-while moment with his bed. He was the only one amongst us going really far away, he got a football scholarship and everyone was so proud. It was finally time for the dorm introduction and I said goodnight to Seb, sending him a goodnight kiss. I changed out of my pajamas pants to jeans and left the room with Sim.
Hopefully this new start would turn out just great.
