The post felt like a violation—whoever wrote it knew me way too well. They didn't just mention my medication; they had my daily schedule down to the minute, even tracking when I left and returned to my dorm.
I kept scrolling, stomach twisting as the comments got worse.
"Seriously? A freshman pulling this crap? From a lonely senior who's been single for three years—PSA: I'm available, ladies!"
"That med stops lactation. My family owns a pharmacy—we sell it all the time."
"Holy crap, they're right. Just looked it up. Mind. Blown."
"Fake. Emily Laurent barely talks to guys."
"Oh, you're clueless. She's always sprinting to the campus clinic. Wonder which old creep in there is… y'know. LOL."
Olivia grabbed my shoulder. "Emily, breathe. You're white as a sheet."
I dropped my phone, my head spinning. She went into full crisis mode. "Don't freak out. We can track the IP. I'll get someone on it now."
But I already knew.
The only person who'd ever found my pills—tucked under my pillow—was Sophia, during her dorm inspection.
With her gone, I had no one to scream at. So I kept refreshing, punishing myself with every new lie.
Had Ethan seen this?
Doubtful. He was always buried in work. Even if he had, why would he care?
Most faculty didn't even know the student forum existed.
I was numb until Mrs. Anderson's voice cut through the haze. "Emily?"
My advisor—usually warm, always protective of her girls—looked grim as she motioned to her phone. "You've seen this?"
I nodded.
She exhaled sharply. "I've called your parents. I know you're not this kind of girl, but this is out of control. Your reputation—"
"No!" I choked out. "Don't drag them into this. I can fix it!"
Her stare was steel. "How? By silencing the entire campus alone? We need to find who did this, and your parents will be here to help clear your name."
Game over. I slumped into the chair, hollow.
Four hours later, my parents burst in—fresh off canceling their vacation.
Mom crushed me in a hug. "Baby, what's happening?"
Dad blew past me, zeroing in on Mrs. Anderson. His voice was ice. "Explain. Now."
With every word, his jaw tightened. Then he snapped, "Get that doctor here."
The post had name-dropped Ethan—some calling him my secret boyfriend, others drooling over his looks. Mrs. Anderson must've spilled.
I tried to cut in, but Mom squeezed my wrist. "Don't. He's been livid since we got the call."
My ears rang. "It's my medical issue! Why drag him into it?"
Dad's glare was lethal. "Then why were you carrying his ID? Why the daily clinic visits? What 'illness' lasts two weeks?" When I stayed silent, he scoffed. "If you wanted to ditch military training, you should've just said so. Pathetic."
Classic Dad.
If I wasn't first place, I didn't study enough. A cold? My fault for not bundling up. High school stress headaches? Just laziness.
He always assumed the worst—yet took full credit for my college acceptance.
Like he'd lifted a finger to help.
Tears burned, but I ducked my head, biting my tongue like always.
Then—
The door slammed open.
I turned.
Ethan stood there, chest heaving.
