"Nathan, have some decency! This is a hospital, not your bedroom. Do you really want the whole floor hearing you?"
My sharp tone made him pause, but only for a second. His gaze dragged over me, slow and deliberate, before that infuriating smirk curled his lips.
"Never thought a hospital gown could look this good on someone," he murmured, voice thick with suggestion. "Makes me wonder how much better it'd look on the floor."
God, he was impossible. In public, all charm and professionalism. Alone? A predator barely bothering to hide his claws.
And yet—my traitorous mind betrayed me, painting a vivid scene of his hands stripping away the thin fabric, his body pressing me into the mattress until the only sound left was my own ragged breathing. My skin burned at the thought.
I tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear, forcing steel into my voice. "Did Sophia send you?"
"You barely said two words when you called out sick. I was going to check on you at home, but Sophia caught me in the hall. Told me you were here." He shrugged, too casual. "Figured I'd keep you company. Slow day at the office anyway."
His eyes dipped lower, lingering, and my pulse kicked up.
Sunlight spilled through the window, warm against my skin—until I followed his gaze and realized the top button of my gown had slipped open. Heat flooded my cheeks as I fumbled to fasten it.
"You should go," I said, clearing my throat. "I'll be back in a few days."
Nathan glanced toward the door—empty for now—before his hand shot out, fingers grazing my chest in a rough, fleeting caress. His lips brushed mine, too quick to pull away, too slow to forget.
The contact sizzled through me, leaving my nerves alight.
He knew exactly what he was doing. The pinch had been just shy of painful, and I barely stifled a gasp. I kept my eyes down, pretending indifference while my body hummed with treacherous want.
Straightening his suit, he turned to leave.
And suddenly, the room felt too big, too quiet. His hand was right there—close enough to grab.
Memories of Sophia and Ryan this morning flickered in my mind, stoking the restless ache inside me. Nathan was the only one who could quench it, and I hated myself for craving him. He'd blackmailed me. Taken what he wanted. And yet, when his touch burned against my skin, I'd melted before I remembered to resist.
Why did I still want it?
His scent, his heat, the way his body moved over mine—my thoughts spiraled, stoking the fire low in my stomach.
Then he leaned in again, his gaze searing into me like he could read every filthy fantasy in my head.
"Sure you don't want me to stay?"
I turned away, but his fingers caught my chin, tilting my face back. His lips hovered just above mine, breath warm against my skin.
"Mr. Roscente..."
I meant to say Leave.
But the words dissolved before they reached my tongue. All I could do was stare, caught between guilt and hunger—and something darker, something I wasn't ready to name.
