My eyes snapped open at the sound, heart pounding as I jerked toward the doorway.
A guy from accounting—some coworker I barely knew—was strolling past, phone pressed to his ear, laughing at something.
Only when his footsteps disappeared down the hall did I finally let out the breath I'd been holding. Shame washed over me, slow and suffocating.
Idiot. I'd left the door unlocked. One wrong glance, and he would've seen everything—me, flushed and breathless, barely holding myself together.
I rushed to crack open a window. The cool air kissed my skin, soothing the heat still humming beneath the surface.
Then Daniel called.
"Sweetheart, I miss you so much. God, I wish I could come home to you right now."
A month ago, those words would've sent warmth curling through my chest. Now? They just left me hollow. Annoyed, even.
Other couples reunited with desperate kisses, tangled limbs, whispered promises. But what would his return even change? A peck on the cheek? A half-hearted hug? That was all he could give me.
"I miss you too. When are you coming back?"
My fingers traced the thin layer of dust on the windowsill as I spoke, my voice flat, distant.
"What's wrong, baby? You don't sound excited for me to come home."
"No, no, of course I am! It's just… coming back to an empty apartment every day is so… dull."
Daniel barely seemed to hear me. After a few more empty words, the call ended.
Outside, the sky darkened into dusk. Exhaustion settled over me like a weight as I packed up and left.
The rush hour crowds had thinned, but the bus was still packed. With over a dozen stops ahead, I shoved my way toward the back.
The air was thick, stifling. Gripping the handrail, I stared blankly at the blur of city lights.
Then I noticed them—a young couple tangled together on a nearby seat. The boy had his arm around the girl, whispering something that made her giggle, her cheeks flushing pink.
The way he looked at her—like she was the only thing in the world that mattered. Then his lips found hers, slow and teasing at first, until she melted against him. His hand slid lower, beneath the waistband of her jeans, and—
Oh.
My breath hitched. I could see the subtle movement between her thighs, the way her lashes fluttered as she bit her lip. She wasn't stopping him. If anything, she arched closer, her breathing shallow, uneven.
My phone buzzed. A text from Nathan:
"Still remember the sight between your legs—those pretty, flushed petals. So fucking beautiful."
Heat flooded my cheeks, my pulse kicking up. I fumbled to shove my phone away—but another message lit up the screen:
"Kissing you there, I could taste how desperate you were. That flood… so sweet. I can still feel it. Still crave it. Miss you like fucking madness."
Since when did Nathan have a way with words like that?
I should've ignored him. But my fingers moved on their own: "Stop saying these things. I can't take it."
His reply came instantly:
"This is nothing. Wait until I'm inside you—then you'll know what unbearable really feels like. You'll learn what ecstasy is. What a fucking shame we didn't get to finish what we started in the office today."
A pause. Then, before I could stop myself, I typed:
"A coworker told me you're… impressive in bed."
I hit send—and immediately wanted to claw the words back. What was I doing? Hinting? Fishing?
No. I wasn't that kind of woman. But before I could delete it—
A smug emoji popped up. Then:
"Once I get my hands on you, you'll see exactly how skilled I am. I'll ruin you for anyone else—especially your husband. And you? You'll beg for more. If even I can't satisfy you, no one fucking can."
Then—a video link.
My thumb hovered, trembling, before I tapped it.
And what I saw left me breathless.
