I roamed my eyes around the hall, spotting several guards stationing on either side of the area. It was what we thought, adding extra security considering there would be an important meeting later. Tilting my head slightly on the side, I brought my glass of champagne near my mouth so it wouldn't be obvious when I spoke through my earpiece.
"This would be an exciting night," I mumbled before taking a sip of my drink.
"I can't wait to go violent," Sean said jokingly on the other end. I looked further ahead and saw Sean serving drinks to the guests. He spotted me looking at him and he smirked.
"Well, we aren't called the Violent Storm for nothing," Darren joined in.
"Cheers to that," Violet said as she sidled beside me, "Did I mention how you look super hot in that red dress?"
I chuckled, "Yeah, that's the third time now. And you look sexy as hell in that black dress."
"Thank you," she curtsied frivolously. We clincked our glass and drank our champagne. I went back to scanning the area and not long after our target emerged through the door with a huge smile in his face as he greeted his guests. I looked to Violet briefly and nodded towards the target's direction to let her know.
"Hmmm, he's sexy and manly." Violet complimented. Well she was right. Vladimir Sokolov did look good and younger than his age of thirty-five. He was a russian drug dealer and according to Violet's source a.k.a the Red Circle guy we captured, he was going to meet the notorious drug dealer and the Red Circle's ringleader, 'The Mother'. We had been chasing the Red Circle organization for three years now but with no such luck. Not only the Mother was always one step ahead of us but apparently, no one had seen what she really looked like except her high-ranked lackeys. If things go as planned then we might be able to capture 'The Mother'.
Violet and I mingled to some guests to entertain ourselves while we waited for the right time to act out. Actually, this party sucked, I mean parties like this only wealthy people could afford were way out of my league, it was boring, well except for watching those people who bragged about their riches.
"Oh your husband is sweet but mine's sweeter, guess what he got me on my birthday?" I rolled my eyes at the two women who were feigning excited about the reveal, "Well it wasn't much, he just gave me a yacht and he named it after me," she said looking smug. A series of 'awww' erupted within our circle after the reveal, including Violet, but I knew she was just faking it.
Violet cleared her throat a moment after, silencing the women as they turned to her expectantly. "Well, aren't you poor ladies?.." their faces instantly turned sour, "...You all bragging about your husbands' riches but what about you wives? What have you given to yourselves that you can brag about? Isn't it more fulfilling when you can give something more than what your husbands give you, to yourselves?," she dabbed her fingers to her forehead as if wiping a sweat.
"And who do you think you are?" one of them asked, clearly pissed.
Violet smirked, flipping her hair, "Gosh, what a pity! Let's go Scarlett," I followed Violet, a triumphant smile written on my face as I felt proud of what she said to them. It was totally unexpected coming from her.
As long as we were out of earshot, we started chuckling. Sean passed by with a smirk on his face then Violet grabbed a glass of champagne from him. I smiled at her and said, "That was..."
"Burn!!" Sean finished. I nodded and we clinked glasses. Sean lingered for a moment but he had to go soon after since he was still on his fake duty.
"Well enough fun. It's time." Violet nodded and we strode to the target's direction. This was a good moment to introduce ourselves since he was finally alone while drinking his wine.
Violet cleared her throat to get his attention.
"Well, well, what do we have here?" he smiled, sending chills down to my spine.
"I must say, you look sexier in person Mr. Sokolov," Violet spoke seductively, slowly eyeing Vladimir from head to toe.
He smiled, "You have a way with words Miss..."
"Alexandra Miller..." Violet extended her arm which Vladimir instantly shook then she gestured to me, "...and this is my secretary Samantha Smith." I extended my hand also which he also shook.
"A pleasure to meet you ladies. Gracing me with your presence really brightens my night."
I smiled while Violet chuckled lightly, "And you too, have a way with words, I see."
He shrugged nonchalantly and smirked. "Anyway, I don't think we have met before. You two don't look familiar."
"No, it's our first time to meet personally the great Vladimir Sokolov, but as much as I want to get to know you, now's not a good time as my purpose of coming here is to talk business."
His eyebrow twitched, "Oh that's unfortunate, but still I'm happy to talk about business. As you probably know, I have various businesses so may I know which interests you." As I watched their exchange of conversation, Vladimir grew more excited when Violet brought up the business talk. It was evident in his face.
Violet looked at me briefly before turning to Vladimir, "I'm only interested on one."
"Oh, which one?" Violet didn't answer for a moment as if she was studying Vladimir's expression. When she was done, her red lips turned up into a playful smile.
She closed the gap between them and brought her face near Vladimir's ear. "The exclusive one or let just say...the illegal one." His smile instantly dropped as his flickered from Violet to me. He arched his eyebrows as if scrutinizing both of us, giving us the sharp look, but after a minute of silence, his perfect white teeth appeared as he managed to smile, although it wasn't like earlier, I knew he was forcing it.
"I admit, you caught me off guard but I don't really know what you're referring to."
Hmm, playing innocent are we?
Violet stepped back, standing beside me and before she could speak, one of Vladimir's guard appeared beside him and whispered something on his ear. His face turned serious then dismissed the guard after. He chugged all his wine and gave it to the passing waitress before turning to us.
"I'm afraid I have to cut this meeting short. I do have a special guest to see to. Hope we meet again, have a great night ladies." He walked away with two guards on his tail passing through the double doors. Another two guards stood on either side of those door.
Nodding to Violet, I fetched the clear glasses from my pouch and wore it while Violet did the same.
"Cut off their communication and kill the lights now," I mumbled through the earpiece.
"Roger that," Ryan, the Violent Strom's tech guy replied. We strode towards the two guards by the door and seconds after, the lights went off, the hall was instantly engulfed in total darkness, causing some shouts and gasps from the guests. Turning on the device, the glasses switched to night vision mode and without wasting another seconds, Violet and I immediately knocked the guards off while they were disoriented. Pushing open the door, we ran down the hall to find Vladimir. I took off the glasses and tossed it as it was bothersome plus it was useless now, considering that only the hall's lights were tampered.
With few turns, we managed to find Vladimir's walking figure heading to his study room. Grabbing the gun from the holster hidden in my thigh and the silencer, I nodded at Violet who was already putting the silencer on her gun. As soon as I was done, we immediately peeled off the wall and went after our target. As we reached quiet a distance from them, I aimed at the guard on the left while Violet on the right one, and I fired two shots hitting him square on the back. The two guards on either side behind Vladimir fell down at the same time, causing him to turn around in alarm. When he saw us, I raised my index finger near my lips, telling him to be quiet. He nodded frantically as we strode cautiously towards him.
Not so tough after all!
"Who are you people?" he asked nervously. I shushed him and gestured for him to move. I walked behind him while Violet on his side, training the gun on him. Not long after, we reached his study room and Violet stepped back while I trained my gun on his back this time.
"I'll keep watch," Violet murmured.
I nodded. Leaning in, I brought my face near Vladimir's ear. "Now open the door, slowly." He took a deep breath as he put his shaky hands and twisted the knobs. As he swung the door wide open, my gaze immediately landed on two guards. Wrapping my arm around Vladimir's neck, I pulled him to my side so I could get a clear shot and before they could react, with a swift movement, I fired single shot on each, the bullets hit them on their chests. They instantly fell to the floor with a thud.
I trained my gun to the woman who was sitting, her back onto us, as she didn't even move, it was as if she didn't care that her guards were now dead. Her glossy red hair, styled in a perfect bun shone as the light reflected on its surface while she sat there. She leaned on her side, looking at one guard sprawled near her.
"Vladimir, you have quiet a company," said the redhead. The familiarity of her voice almost made me hiss in disappointment as I knew whom that voice belonged to. I had anticipated to see what the notorious Mother would look like and it infuriated me knowing that I wouldn't see her tonight.
She slowly stood up, straightening the small wrinkle on her dress and finally turned around, flashing her usual smirk. "Ahh, it's you again. I didn't expect to see you here Samantha."
"Red."
She chuckled lightly, "Is that disappointment I see on your face? What, are you expecting someone else?"
"You're a Red Circle?"
"Yes!" she answered enthusiastically. Now, everything was just messed up. She just confirmed our suspicions that the Red Circle was after the Cox'. But why would the Mother be after them? And as if she could read my mind, Red spoke, "Hmm, you must be wondering why we are after your little girlfriend. Sorry to disappoint but you won't get answers from me."
"We'll see about that." Wanting to start the action, I hit Vladimir with the butt of my gun, putting him to sleep instantly and let his dead weight slip from within my arm before tossing the gun to the side. It was exciting to have a fair fight, and considering that we were both wearing dresses, it got a little more exciting and challenging.
"Are you sure about this? We can't stay here for long," I looked at Violet behind me and smiled.
"It won't take long V, I promise. Just keep watch, for me, pretty please."
Red was definitely a formidable opponent, she almost killed me last time but that was a different story since I was injured at that time. If I would put my mind onto it, I knew I would defeat her.
Adjusting to a fighting stance, I readied myself. Red didn't waste any seconds and initiated the first attack as she swung her fist in my direction but I was able to deflect it and countered a punch to her way. She easily dodged it and blocked my second attack. Caught off guard by the swift movement, she managed to land a punch to my gut, causing me to stagger back but as she took a step forward, I delivered a kick, hitting her to the gut also. She staggered back but quickly straightened herself.
We stood ready to pounce, eyeing each other like a predator to its prey. I felt the excitement bubbled inside of me and it wouldn't be long til I could feel the adrenaline. She smirked and for the second time around, she launched an attack.
It was as if we were in sync with each other that the fight was getting interesting but it was taking too much of my time. When the adrenaline hit me, I landed several blows to her which I was expecting, considering I recognized her fighting style. We fought for several minutes now, and I didn't feel any exhaustion but Red on the other hand she was already breathing heavily. Just looking at her busted lips, swelling cheekbone, and the blood dripping from the left side of her head, I knew I did a good number of attacks.
Wiping the streak of blood on my lips with the back of my hand, I thought of ending the fight. It was taking too long for my liking and I knew I had enough fun. Taking a moment to calm my breathing, it was then I realized Sean and Darren were already having their blast as I heard gunshots and their shouts of pleasure on the other end of the line.
They're going violent now.
Taking a deeb breath, I spoke, "How's your head?"
Red chuckled and winced at the same time, "Heh, I can still feel it."
"This is fun, but I have to end it soon."
"Be my guest."
This time I was planning to attack first but then the sudden burst of the door beat me to it.
"Incoming," Violet yelled as she ducked to the side. Acting out of reflex, I reached out to Red and grabbed her, pulling her with me as we dove behind the desk, then seconds later, a rain of bullets tore through the closed door.
"What the, they're going to hit their boss." I shouted. I heard Red laughed beside me.
"Those are Red Circle."
"What? They could have hit you."
"Scarlett, on me." Violet yelled and I crawled to the side to see her. She kicked the gun to my direction and it slid towards me. Grabbing it, I returned to hiding and saw Red was already on her feet and with a wink, she jumped through the broken window. By now the goons had stopped firing, I could hear several footsteps coming.
"Violent Storm retreat," I hissed and looked at Violet, gesturing for us to jump out of the window. She nodded and quickly bolted from her place, together we jumped out. A hail of bullets whizzed past us as we ran towards the forest.
"Ryan can you locate us?" I yelled through the rain of bullets.
"Yeah we're on our way to you."
Thankfully they stopped firing but they were still chasing us. If I wasn't wearing this stupid dress and if I wasn't in barefoot, I could have ran faster. Seeing a boulder big enough to cover us, I dragged Violet and we hid behind it.
"Scarlett you're almost to the road now, we'll meet you there."
"Copy." I said and readied my gun. I heard Violet hissed beside me and when I turned to look at her, she was clutching her side, blood oozed through her fingers. "Violet, you're hit."
"It's just a flesh wound."
"Just keep the pressure on it. We have to go." She nodded and I held her to stand upright. I shot three goons before we started running again. I kept on shooting to distract them and soon after we reached the road where the van was already waiting for us. I emptied the magazine, not missing any shots, before getting on the vehicle and we sped off.
*
The sun was already up when we reached the house. Darren and Sean went back to the Agency, apparently, Violet wasn't the only one who was hurt, Darren also took a bullet, on his leg. Ryan went with them to report back what took place.
I was currently on my way upstairs, to my bedroom, to get the first aid box in the bathroom. And when I found it, I immediately climbed downstairs, and asked her to undress so I could start cleaning her wound.
"You're lucky, it's just a flesh wound."
"Oh I was born lucky," she chuckled but she winced in pain.
After I was done with her wound, I took a sit on the table and looked at her seriously. "It's my fault you got hurt. If I hadn't fought with Red, we could have gotten out of there silently and unscathed."
She shook her head, "No, no Scar babe. This is not your fault okay? You didn't shoot me, they did."
"But I was the reason they caught up with us in the first place."
She laid her hand on top of mine, and brushed her thumb against the skin, "You couldn't have known and besides it's part of our job. We are risking our lives everytime we're on a mission and this, this is just one of those days. So please, don't blame yourself, pretty please?"
I sighed, "Just don't get shot next time."
She smiled. "I try."
I stood up and kissed her on her forehead as I was about to go upstairs but I stopped when I caught a glimpse of some figure on my peripheral.
"Surprise, surprise, surprise! How are you two? I know I'm too ear...ly? Oh my God!"
I stood dumbfounded, unable to move as I was shocked to see the last person I was expecting to see this early morning. She came here for a surprise visit and she done it good. She surprised us.
"S-Sara?" I stuttered.
Great! This is so messed up!
