Three days had passed since Sara's kidnapping and since then, she has been silent and distant. She hardly talk and oftentimes kept to herself. I sometimes found her crying alone in my bedroom, yes in my bedroom, since she was sleeping with me for the time being, as she asked me to and thankfully, Liv understood and agreed to sleep with Violet in the meantime.
It was also the third time I was woken up by Sara's squirms and shouts as she had a nightmare again. I pulled her close and enveloped her with my arms while rubbing her back as she sobbed against my chest.
"Shhh, it's okay, it's just a nightmare. I'm here, I won't let anything happen to you," I cooed as I wiped the lone tear that escaped my eye with the back of my hand. It was painful to watch her like this. This was messed up. She was breaking apart and I had no idea what to do. It would be helpful if her parents were here but they were still away and she asked me not to tell them or it would complicate things.
"I'm s-sorry, I woke you...up again," she said in between hiccups.
I peered at her and shook my head, "No, you shouldn't be sorry. If there's someone who should be sorry, it's me okay? What happened to you was all my fault and I'm sorry you had to go through all that. I'm really sorry Sara." God, I felt awful thinking how reckless I was to put her in danger and almost got her killed. This was why I didn't want anyone to get close to me because in this line of work I had, there was no time I would be safe.
I felt her hands cupped my face, "It's not your fault I was kidnapped Scarlett. You saved me and it's thanks to you that I get to live another day. Now I'm sorry if I ever let you feel guilty but don't blame yourself, I chose to stay with you even if it's dangerous because I care about you and I don't want to be away from you..." she tucked a few strands of my hair behind my ear, "I just need time to process everything that happened then I'll get better."
I shook my head and held her hands on my face, bringing them to my lap, "No. I can't let you put your life in danger anymore Sara. I guess it's best for you to stop coming here for the meantime. We can hang out in school but not here, it's not safe." She pulled her hands away from my grasp and frowned.
"No. Didn't you just hear me Scarlett? I don't want to be away from you. I want to spend time with you as much as I can, I don't care if it's safe or not."
"I can't let you do that. I barely saved you last time Sara and I don't want to risk getting you hurt again. Think about what your parents would feel if something happens to you. If you don't care about your safety, atleast think about your parents." She opened her mouth but closed it immediately and avoided my gaze. I knew it would be hard to convince her that was why I had to use the parents card on her so she would think twice.
When I thought the conversation was over, I tucked her chin between my fingers and tilted her head up so she could look at me. "Think about it okay?" She nodded, her eyes glistening once again, "We should go back to sleep," I added, patting her pillow. She needn't be told twice as she laid down easily, flashing a quick small smile before turning her back to me. I dragged the cover to her shoulder level and laid down, staring at her back. Even if I was used to her being around here, I knew she needed to stop coming here for her own safety.
Yawning, I closed my eyes to welcome the sleep once again but it didn't happen when I heard a shout from the other room. I quickly got off and grabbed the gun I hid under the bed before bolting to the other room. I kicked the door open and aimed the gun to no one in particular.
"What the hell?!," Violet gasped with a surprised and questioning look while Liv was frowning on the floor.
"What, there's no intruder?" I asked and slowly lowered the gun.
"Do you see anyone aside from us?" Liv asked sarcastically as she heaved herself up.
"But I heard a shout," I complained, glaring at both of them.
"It was me 'cause Violet here pushed me off the bed." Of course that was it. I should have known and now I embarrassed myself. What was I thinking?
Well, you didn't think, you just bolted right away!
I shook my head to get rid of my opposing self and looked at Violet. "Violet, you need to stop this. First, you locked Olivia out of your room, then you locked her in the bathroom last night, and now this...Violet!" I exclaimed in defeat. These two were just impossible to get along.
She shrugged and laid down on the bed as if she hadn't done wrong. "Well, sorry I can't help it. Goodnight Scar babe." I rolled my eyes then looked at Liv who was sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Scar, please take me back. Since I've been here, I haven't had a goodnight sleep. Please, let me sleep with you."
"You can have the bed back Olivia," Sara spoke behind me. She walked to stand in front of Liv and smiled.
"But Sara, are you sure?" I asked in concern, after all, she was the one who asked to stay with me.
She nodded, "Yes Scarlett. I will be fine." I hesitated as I looked at her.
"If that is so, then I can't wait to have a goodnight sleep again," Liv mumbled while stretching her arms up and walked back out of the room.
Sara smiled after she was tucked in bed, "Goodnight Scarlett."
"Night Sara," I replied then closed the door gently.
*
I groaned awake when I felt several gentle taps on my thigh. Even without looking at the time, I could tell it was too early to get up for school.
"Go away," I mumbled, slapping the hand that was bothering me. After what happened last night, I definitely needed a long and deep sleep, I didn't care if I had to be late or absent in school.
"Oh for God's sake, wake up Scarlett!" I heard Liv hissed followed by a shooting pain on my thigh as the gentle taps became a hard slap. I kicked the cover down and grudgingly sat up, glaring at her.
"You better have a good reason for waking me up this early Liv," I warned, crossing my arms over my chest. She held up her phone briefly before shoving it to her pocket.
"Dad mentioned about his private room in his office, he said it's time to open it."
"Do you have a clue what's inside that room?"
She shrugged, "Not even a slightest. Now come on, I'm dying to see what's inside of it considering it's been locked for I don't know how long."
"Can't we just go like after school?" I asked in defeat as I got off the bed.
"Nope. I'm too excited to wait for later."
After dragging myself to the bathroom to take a shower and brush my teeth, I decided to change into something for school so I would be ready after we visited her house across the street. Whatever was inside Felix's private room, I hoped that it would be something of help to us, considering she called Liv to tell her that.
As soon as I was finished, I jogged downstairs and found Liv sitting in the dining area with a cup of coffee in her hand. Thankfully, she was already dressed for school so I wouldn't have to wait for her once we got back.
"You didn't make a cup for me?" I asked, walking around the table and sat across her. She simply shook her head and pushed her cup in my direction.
"Just finish that," she offered and stood up. Rolling my eyes, I took the cup and sipped the hot liquid, feeling the heat entered my stomach. After I was done, we both got out of the house and walked into the cold early morning.
"I had no idea how much I'm missing this place until now," Liv spoke as we stood in front of the gate. She pushed it open until she realized it was locked, "And its locked. Why is this locked?"
I sighed, rolling my eyes, "You forgot agents used to come here to check on things and of course they didn't forget to change the lock." I walked near it and started climbing over, leaving Liv on the other side. I huffed as soon as my feet landed on the concrete and turned to look at her with a smirk. Her jaw slackened as she blinked in surprise.
After a moment of pure surprise, her expression turned grim, "This is just ridiculous. How am I suppose to climb over in this skirt?" she spatted, her hands gesturing to her little skirt.
"Just make it work Liv, I don't like waiting. Don't worry, I won't peek," I said turning my back to her. I smiled when I heard something hit the ground behind me, probably her heels she threw over, followed by the silent rattle of the metal and her constant huffs.
"This is really, really, really degrading...ouch!" I chuckled, hearing her constant complains. If only she knew...!
I turned around when I heard her landed on the ground. She was sitting on her butt, keeping her legs close as she took deep breaths. With one huff, she lifted herself up, grabbing her heels and put them on before glaring at me.
"Did you peek?" she asked accusingly.
How I wished! "No, of course not, what do you take me for? Anyway, you did good, who would have thought you could climb gates."
"Yeah whatever!" I chuckled as I walked to the gate and held the padlock, typing the code. I heard a click as the lock opened and then a gasp sounded behind me. I turned around and saw Liv's glowering face.
"You did not just open that," she asked slowly, her hands curled to fists on her sides. I covered my mouth briefly, forcing back the laughter threatening to burst as I took in her expression. Seeing how furious she was, I could say, I did a good job on that stunt.
I cleared my throat and put on a serious front, although I found it very hard, "I just did. Sorry..." and with that, I burst into laughter.
"God, I hate you right now, it's not even funny," she said angrily before storming away, leaving me deal with my fits of laughter.
It took me a while to regain my composure and followed Liv inside. As we got inside, I could see nothing had changed, it was like a fight didn't occur here last time. But that was expected from the agents who came here.
We went straight to her father's office, as I suggested, because she was planning to go to her bedroom at first. Opening the door, we strode inside and briefly looked around before our eyes landed on the wooden door. Liv didn't waste any time as she typed in the code and a soft click sounded. We looked at each other before she slowly pushed open the door. We were greeted by the darkness, so Liv fumbled on the switch to her side and as soon as the room was engulfed by light, my face lighted up.
"Holy...cow," Liv uttered in disbelief. As expected from Felix, it was probable he kept something like this. So, this was Felix's little armory room. In front of us were big guns put on display, on my right side were different handguns and on the left were varieties of knives.
"Wow, this is just badass," I commented, walking further in the room. I stopped just beside the circular table on the center of the room and watched Liv as she roamed around the room.
"How could my dad acquire these guns and knives?"
I frowned, "You didn't know?"
She stopped walking and faced me, "Know what?"
"Your dad was an agent in his time, like me. He was Mr. Black's...our boss' partner and bestfriend." Her lips formed an 'o' shape while her eyes squinted in surprise.
"So...so my dad, he was a badass just like you?"
"Badass? Liv, your dad and Mr. Black were, like legends. They weren't just the formidable agents in their time...they are the fathers of The Agency, the secret organization I'm in...or at least 'were' for your father."
"Woah, okay, that's just too much to take in. How come my dad never told me about this? Well it's not like I'm mad or something that he didn't tell me any of this, I'm just...surprised and well, proud of my dad. I wished he told me about how badass he was, you know."
I nodded, "I know what you mean and I understand how awesome your dad was--is, til now, but being in the organization is something we may or may not be proud of, because Liv...we don't just protect people...we also kill them." She pursed her lips into a tight line after hearing my last statement, a distress expression written in her face. She avoided my eyes and let out a deep breath.
"But still he was a badass," I added, lessening the now heavy atmosphere. I shouldn't had said that part, it was my mistake.
She nodded slowly, "Yeah. And I guess I have to talk to dad about this."
"Yeah. Come on, let's go back to the house and tell them what we saw."
*
We were down on to the last subject in the morning and since then, I didn't feel like listening to the boring lectures as I was feeling sleepy. I kept on glancing at the clock then at my watch, hoping that time would passed by in a blur. It didn't help the fact that I knew something was bugging Liv because whenever I glanced in her way, she seemed to be in a deep thought. So, I was pretty distracted to even bother listening to the teachers.
"Calling Samantha Flynn on room 27, to please proceed to the principal's office now."
My ears perked up, hearing my name on the speaker. My gaze immediately found Liv's and like me, she also looked confused. This was my first time being called into the principal's office and I wondered what was I up to. I couldn't even recall doing something against the school rules this morning, well, except disrespecting the teachers which I always did, and there was my tardiness, but I doubted that were the reasons I was being called.
The voice on the speaker called me out again and this time, I immediately stood up, mouthing a 'wait for me' to Liv as I walked out of the room without saying anything to the teacher. Since our room was near the principal's office, I reached there in no time, with my long and fast strides.
I pushed the door open without knocking and strode in, immediately seeing a woman sitting across principal Meyers, her back onto me. Just by looking at the woman's fiery red hair styled in a bun, I let out a shaky breath.
This isn't happening!
Sensing I was behind her, the woman stood up and turned around, revealing a perfect set of white teeth, flashing in my way.
"Oh, um, there she is..." Mrs. Meyers spoke as she stood up also, "...sorry to call you all of a sudden Ms. Flynn but your cousin is so adamant to see you so..." Mrs. Meyers voice became distant as all I could focused about was the woman who was standing in front of me, plastering her sadistic smirk.
"Samantha," she said with pure delight in her voice.
"Red. It's nice to see you again...cousin!"
Now, I've been compromised.
Great!
Just great!
