I gulped down the lump on my throat as I eyed in horror the thing the evil boss was holding. Noticing my reaction, she smirked as she squirted the needle making me jump on the chair I was being tied to. For three days as she had graced me with her short visits, she had been patient with me, trying to make small talks and occasionally asking my parents' whereabouts, no torture, no threats, because according to her, she didn't like messy interrogation. I was grateful for it, and me being a stubborn bitch didn't give her anything. I was amazed at how patient she was in those past few days but now, I had no idea what she was thinking. She probably couldn't stand my stubborness.
"Already tired of this useless interrogation? Are you going to kill me now Mother?" I asked calmly but within I was trembling in fear. I didn't want to die without saying goodbye to my parents and Scarlett.
She smirked, "Are you that eager to die?" she challenged.
"What, are you ready to kill me?" I retorted causing her to chuckle.
She leaned in, brought her face closer to mine, looking amused, "Actually no. I have a great time talking to you so you can't die, for now. Besides, I still like to see your parents." She straightened back up and raised the syringe. "This, my dear, is sodium thiopental or simply called, the truth serum."
"Fuck," I blurted under my breath.
"Yes, fuck," she said, amused. I squirmed, trying to break free as she slowly moved the syringe next to my arm. I bit my lower lip when I felt a sudden prickling sensation and shut my eyes. I hated needles, even if they wouldn't cause much pain, they were scary to look at.
I braced myself for whatever effects the serum had but I didn't feel anything except that I felt a little sleepy. It made me wonder if she had the right serum or she mistakenly picked a sedative. I opened my eyes and saw The Mother staring at me with a smile on her face as she crossed her arms on her chest.
"Are you trying to get me to sleep?" I asked sarcastically.
She laughed briefly, shaking her head. "No. Now tell me Olivia...what do you desire?"
I rolled my eyes at her pathetic question. "To be the most desirable bitch ever known!" I said aloud, improvising. I had no idea how a truth serum worked but it felt like it wasn't working.
"What do you really desire Olivia?" she asked the same thing again.
"To be the most desirable bitch ever known," I repeated, fooling around. It felt like we were going in circles here and as much as I hated it, I got plenty of time to go along, since I was stuck in here. What would she get with her useless question?
Instead of getting pissed, the evil boss just smirked and nodded before turning her back to me then walked to the center table. She picked up a small bottle and inserted the needle of the syringe on it. This time, she took a lot more of the serum, making my heart sped up. Was she trying to overdose me?
With a contented smile, she walked back in my direction and silently pressed the syringe on my arm causing me to wince. She drew in all the contents making me feel the trepidation, thinking that I would finally blurt out something useful to her, ofcourse except my parents' whereabouts because I didn't even know where they were.
Feeling the needle was out of my skin, I opened my eyes and instantly found The Mother's triumphant expression.
I smiled as I still felt sober and more in control, "Still the wrong serum," I said assumingly.
She grinned, "Tell me...what do you really desire Olivia?"
I snorted, "Not what, it's who. I desire one girl," I answered without hesitation which was really weird.
Her brow raised surprisingly, "Huh, that's... unexpected. So you're a-..."
"Bisexual. Out and proud. Well, not really 'out' to the world, just to my parents."
She nodded thoughtfully, "Speaking of your parents, where are they Olivia?" she asked gently and I shrugged.
"I don't know."
"You're their daughter, surely, you must know."
"That's the thing, I don't," I retorted nonchalantly, "They always leave without telling me where they'll be going but it's fine though, I got used to it. There's this one time they had gone for a business trip and went home after two months. I mean come on, what kind of business trip they had that lasted two months. You know, sometimes...sometimes I feel-..."
"I DON'T care...what you feel Olivia!" she snapped making me raised my eyebrow.
"Oh,"
She clenched her jaw, "Tell me where your parents are...then maybe I'll let you go," she said slowly.
"Like I said, I.don't.know...but my bodyguard does," I blurted without realizing and I mentally scolded myself for telling. It was like I couldn't control my mouth as it opened on its own accord and lying had never really occurred to me. It must be how the truth serum worked. To think I had said earlier she got the wrong serum, how pathetic of me.
Her face brightened up while her eyes narrowed as if she was deep in thought and then she leaned in, brought her face closer looking like she was more eager than earlier. "Does this bodyguard of yours...happen to be the girl you desire?" I gritted my teeth, forcing my mouth shut to prevent me from spilling but it was no use.
"Y-Yes."
She smiled widely, "And what's her name?"
No, don't say it!
"I first knew her as Samantha Flynn but later on she told me her real name. Scarlett Smith. You see, I found out about her secret. She works for this Agency as she calls it and this very same Agency assigned her to be my personal bodyguard because some organization is targeting my family, the Red Cicle...wait...shit...you're the Red Circle. Oh shit!"
She nodded, "Interesting," she straightened back up and smirked, "Well, it's been nice talking to you as always Olivia but I have to cut this conversation short for I have now something to do. I'll be back soon."
"No, please! You can't go after her," I pleaded as I watched her disappeared behind the door. I struggled against my seat, trying to break free although I knew it would be fruitless. All I could think about at the moment was how to stop The Mother before she could do something to Scarlett. This was all my fault. I couldn't stop myself from spilling and now the evil boss was going after her.
I stopped resisting as I felt a single tear rolled down on my cheek. I didn't know what to do right now. I couldn't get out of here and I didn't know if I would be able to. All the verve I felt earlier, along with my hope had been slowly fading. I didn't want to feel like this anymore, I wanted this to be over and I hoped it would be soon.
Taking in a deep breath, I slowly closed my eyes and let sleep overwhelmed my senses.
*
I was woken by the constant moving of my hands and as I came into senses, I realized two guards were untying me while The Mother was standing behind. I had no idea where we were going as they forced me up and escorted me out of the room. If the situation was different, I would feel very happy to get out but instead, I felt anxious as to where they were planning to take me.
As we entered the lift, I was surrounded by The Mother's guards, except her, who didn't ride with us. The lift opened and one of the guards nudged me out a little hard causing me to glare at him briefly as we walked on the lobby. Seeing a lot of guests, now I knew why they hadn't tied my hands. They didn't want the people to know I was a hostage and as much as I wanted to shout for help, I knew I couldn't run away from them and it would just put other people in danger if they decided to help.
We reached outside and feeling the cold breeze of the night was enough for me to calm down a little but it was shortlived when I was shoved inside the car.
"Where are we going?" I asked curiously when one of the guards got inside the passenger seat. They ignored me causing me to roll my eyes at them, "Nice talking," I added sarcastically. Minutes later, the door on my right side suddenly opened and came inside The Mother, taking a seat beside me then the car started moving.
"Where are we going?" I queried once again, this time it was addressed to her.
"To a business transaction. You're going to see how I sometimes do business Olivia." I frowned by the way she had said it. I got the feeling she would do something sinister later.
The ride broke into silence once again while I thought about my parents and Scarlett. They were the constant reminder why I couldn't give up yet. My parents were probably worried about me and Scarlett, even though I wasn't sure about her condition, was probably waiting for me or better yet, was planning to rescue me. That being said, I was torn about my conflicting feelings. One part of me wanted to see her, wanted her to rescue me but the other part was hoping she wouldn't risk herself just to save me because I didn't want her to get hurt more than she already had.
"It's a shame,"
"Excuse me?" I asked confused.
"It's a shame how your parents easily left you...while they took off, saving themselves." If I hadn't known the reason why my parents had left me to my bodyguard, I would have been angry and the way The Mother had said it, I would feel way worse but I didn't. I knew she was trying to get to me, trying to make my parents looked bad in my eyes, but shame on her, she couldn't make me hate my parents.
The reason why my parents had to leave me into the hands of Scarlett was because they didn't want all of us to get captured. It would make the Red Circle's job easy if we stayed together in one place. They trusted Scarlett with my life, knowing that she was capable of protecting me until now, when everything had gone sideways because of my stupidity and stubborness.
"I know their reason for doing it so I suggest you stop what you're trying to do right now."
She smirked and turned to look at me. "What do you think I'm trying to do?"
I didn't answer and instead, I glared at her, "Why are you so interested with my parents? Are you one of my dad's exes or something?" Her hysterical laugh instantly echoed inside the car. I didn't know what part was funny, but somewhat, it amused her.
"Oh that was funny," she said after her laughter died down, wiping the edges of her eyes.
"I don't think I said something funny."
"It's funny when you thought I am one of your dad's exes when clearly I'm not."
"They why are you so adamant to know their whereabouts?" Her amused expression immediately vanished as she looked away from my gaze.
"All you need to know for now Olivia is that your father did something unforgivable...and I won't rest until I get my revenge on him..." she turned her gaze back to mine and stared at me blankly, "You and your mother...would be just a casualty." I breathed as her words sent shivers down to my spine. I looked away as her stare was giving me goosebumps. I didn't want to see this side of her, it was very intimidating and vindictive. Just what did my father do to create such vengeful soul?
The ride had once again emerged into uncomfortable silence as I glued my mouth shut, keeping myself from saying 'not so good' things that might offend the boss because I actually didn't like seeing her vindictive side. Once was enough for me to realize I shouldn't pissed her that much. After two hours or so, finally the car halted and the guard on the passenger seat promptly got out to open the boss' door. As The Mother came out, the door opened on my side and I reluctantly obliged. Looking around, I hugged myself as the breeze was colder and stronger here in the dock. I followed the boss without waiting for a nudge because I knew better now, and we entered into some kind of a warehouse. Inside was spacious, few wood crates and equipments laying around and half of the area was in the process of renovation. There was nothing interesting to look at except for several unfamiliar guys carrying various guns, standing in the middle of the room and some on the sides, probably waiting for The Mother.
I stopped on evil boss' side and looked at her nervously. I felt like my heart was going to burst out of my chest seeing those unfamiliar bad guys but my expression didn't mirror The Mother's calm demeanor. She was so composed, I could see a faint smile on her red lips. It was as if we weren't surrounded by bad guys with guns.
She turned to one of her guards before strutting towards the unknown baddies with a guard in tow carrying a briefcase probably contaning the drugs. I mentally applauded her bravery to face them with just one guard on her side but it was no surprise there as she was probably doing this business for a long time now.
She stopped in front of a man who looked like on his mid-thirties wearing a business suit. They talked for a while before opening each of their briefcases. As the buyer tested the drugs, a contented smile appeared on his face making me think the transaction was a successful. They exhanged their briefcases and shook hands before The Mother turned her back to them and strode in our direction with a blank expression. I wondered why she didn't look happy when the deal was a success.
As soon as she reached in our front, she briefly gazed at me and smirked before extending her arm to a guard. Immediately, the guard handed her a gun and in a swift movement, she whirled around, aiming the gun to the buyer and instantly pulled the trigger. Before I could take in what she did, her guards then opened fire, shooting the buyer's goons as they were in the brink of shock, catching them off guard.
With the sound of gunfires and the scene in front of me, I stooped down and covered my ears as I shut my eyes. All I wanted at the moment was to get out of here and ran away. I couldn't stomach the blood and the killing and I was terrified by The Mother. So this was how she sometimes did her business? She was a monster! How could she easily do something like this?
After several minutes, the gunshots died down but I remained on my position as I didn't want to see the outcome of that bloodbath. I heard The Mother was calling me but I didn't move and ignored her until her guards gripped my arms and forced me to stand up. As I looked at her, I could now see her happy expression.
"You missed the best part Olivia," she started.
"You're a monster." I mumbled scornfully, "How could you kill him? You had a deal." I snapped causing her to chuckle. I tried my best to just stare at her face as I didn't want to catch a glimpse of the dead bodies.
"My, he deserved it. He went behind my back and it was stupid of him to do that. Now look at where that got him."
"You're horrible!"
She smirked, "Thanks." She turned to one of her guards and said something but it was cut short when a faint gunshot sounded outside. Our heads snapped to the entrance and saw a guard limping towards us.
"Enemies!" The limping guard shouted and as if on cue, a series of gunfires rang outside. The Mother wasted no time and barked orders as she started moving to the far end of the building where the bodies she murdered earlier were laying. I was reluctant to move, thinking that the enemies outside was Scarlett's team but I was unexpectedly dragged by two guards, following the evil boss. I thrashed on their holds but they were strong, I couldn't break free. As we headed to an exit, I closed my eyes to avoid seeing the dead bodies until we got out of the warehouse.
We got outside and a car was already waiting for us. The Mother got in first as I saw her while I was being dragged to the car but halfway through, a gunshot rang out and the guard on my right instantly dropped to the floor. The guard on the left managed to shove me inside the car with The Mother and closed the door. He exchanged fires with the 'enemies' but not too long after, he got hit. The car started moving and I heard The Mother's faint sigh but her relief was shortlived when a wheel exploded causing it to swerve on sides as the driver tried to maneuver it. We hit a cargo container and the impact caused me to lurch forward to the front as I forgot to put on the seatbelt. For a moment, I was engulfed with darkness as I hit the dashboard, luckily the impact wasn't that strong but it was enough to render the driver into unconsciousness.
I groaned as I felt a dull pain on the side of my forehead and felt the blood trickled down. Slowly pulling myself back to the backseat, I sat for a moment to reduce the dizziness I was feeling. That was when I noticed The Mother wasn't on my side anymore. I looked outside and saw her standing there. I forced myself to get out of the car and used the vehicle as a support while I regained my bearing.
"Liv!" My eyes instantly flew open and turned to the direction of the voice. Her voice.
"Scarlett?" I spoke incredulously. My heart hammered at the sight of her standing in the distance with Violet who, both, were aiming their handguns to The Mother. I couldn't belive I would see her again, it made me happy that she was alive and okay.
"So you're Scarlett," The Mother spoke bringing our attention to her.
"It's over now Mother." Scarlett said definitely. The Mother snorted then started laughing hysterically. I frowned in confusion at her reaction. How could she laugh in a situation like this?
As soon as her laughter died down, she shook her head and spoke up, "Oh it is far from over dear." Scarlett glowered as Violet who remained quiet the entire time started walking forward, still training her gun to the evil boss. I had no idea what Violet was planning when she stopped in front of The Mother.
"Mother," Violet spoke up for the first time then, unexpectedly, she whirled around and aimed the gun at Scarlett. My breath caught up in my throat as I watched her level the gun to her Scar babe. What was she doing?"
"What are you doing V?" Scarlett asked, confused.
"Violet?" I spoke up.
She pursed her mouth briefly then opened it again, "I'm sorry Scar babe." With that, she pulled the trigger twice, hitting Scarlett straight to the chest. I stood frozen in place, feeling the time slowed down as I watched Scarlett slowly dropped on the concrete. My mind had gone blank instantly and everything around me just faded as I tried to grasp what just happened. No, this couldn't be happening! Not Scarlett, don't be Scarlett. She couldn't die when I just saw her alive.
As I was too numb to move or to take consideration what was happening around me, an arm suddenly snaked around my waist, followed by a prickling sensation on my neck. I didn't know what they were doing and I honestly didn't care as I continued staring at Scarlett's lifeless body. Within seconds, I could feel my eyelids started to get heavy so as my body then after, my knees gave out on me making someone's hold on me tighter. As darkness slowly enveloped my consciousness, Scarlett's lifeless body had already imprinted on my mind, which I knew would be my greatest nightmare.
