Three days had passed since our little play and Violet had gone radio silence putting me on edge the whole time. Negative thoughts had crossed my mind, thinking that what if she had been caught by her mother? What if they hurt her now that they found out about our plan? And what if they would also hurt Olivia again?
I was anxious the whole time, I couldn't just sit by, but as if Violet knew what I was going through, to my relief, she called me from a secured line earlier, letting me know she was coming over. I was reluctant at first because I didn't want to risk everything, putting her life and our plan in jeopardy. But in the end I relented when she mentioned that she found out something.
"Did Violet call already?" Sara asked as she descended the stairs, hair disheveled and her pjs wrinkled.
I took a sip from my cup before looking up to her, "Oh you're awake. Yeah she did. She's on her way right now," I answered, flashing a small quick smile and she nodded before walking in my direction. For those three days, she had been constantly asking me about Violet which weirded me out for she didn't usually ask about Violet's well-being. She may be worried about her and so was I, it was just that the whole asking thing was new to me.
She then grabbed a cup and poured some of the coffee I made.
"I'm glad she's okay," she mumbled.
I nodded, "Yeah, me too."
A comfortable silence took over as we both sat down, opposite each other. I could tell she was in deep thought as she was staring blankly into an empty space, holding her cup of coffee. I was curious about what she was thinking but I decided to stay quiet and thought about Olivia instead. I wondered how she was doing right now. The last time she saw me was when I got shot and pretended to be dead in front of her which was hard because I didn't want her to be devastated over nothing. I just hoped Violet had told her about that plan.
"Scarlett?" she spoke up, breaking me out of trance.
"Hmm?" I looked up, meeting her gaze.
She hesitated for a moment before opening her mouth. "There's something I've been wanting to tell you."
"Okay?" My forehead creased noticing her stern look. Whatever she wanted to tell me was probably a serious thing.
Her forefinger started tapping the brim of her cup as she briefly avoided my gaze. I patiently waited for her to speak up and when she looked back again, I gave her a faint nod, urging her.
She took a deep breath and steadied her gaze. "Violet and I, um...we kissed."
"Oh," was all I uttered as I simply stared at her. I admit she caught me off guard and now I didn't know what to say to her nor what to feel. I was confused.
"It was just a spurt of the moment. I swear that kiss means nothing to me," she quickly stated.
"Look, um...it's fine Sara... But I wish you could have told me sooner. I won't get mad or anything if that's what you were thinking."
"I'm sorry, I know I should have told you sooner."
I shook my head, "No, there's nothing to apologize Sara. We're not in a relationship or something, so it's fine." I admit I felt a pang of jealousy. I liked Sara, I was attracted to her, that I couldn't deny. But right now, the jealousy was mixed with something else...blithe, after all, I was hoping that Violet would find some girl that could make her happy and I got the feeling that it was Sara, and just knowing it made me happy. So, I was jealous but happy at the same time which was confusing.
"So how was it? The kiss?" I teased, grinning at the same time to lighten the mood. She blushed instantly and sipped from her cup. I smiled watching her acting so adorable.
"Um, I don't really know. I was surprised when she leaned in and kissed me. Though it was just for a moment because I pushed her and walked away, so my training was cancelled that day."
I arched my brows, "Training?" I asked making her eyes widen.
"Oh I haven't told you, have I?"
"Ah no?"
She took a deep breath and cleared her throat. "When you told me to distance myself...I asked Violet to teach me how to fight, so after classes and weekends she would train me, teach me the basic skills I needed to know...That's when the kiss happened also." I leaned back on my chair as I was processing what she just said. So that was why they were always together, acting a little suspicious around me and how she managed to fight off the Red Circle that night Olivia was taken. It all made sense to me now.
"I know I should have told you and I'm sorry that I went behind your back," she added as she noticed my silence.
"Oh no, it's okay, I'm glad Violet taught you and if there's someone who should be apologizing, it's me Sara...for pushing you away. At that time, I couldn't risk getting you hurt so I had to tell you to distance yourself, I'm sorry for doing that."
"No Scarlett..." she said, putting her hand over mine on the table, "You did what you had to do and I understand that."
I smiled, "Thanks."
"I'm home!"
I quickly pulled my hand and looked up to Violet who just announced herself. I could tell she saw our hands judging by her blank expression as she stood in the doorway but she quickly recovered when she beamed and walked in our direction.
"Violet," Sara greeted as she stood up and hugged Violet. Smiling, I walked around the table and hugged her once Sara pulled away.
"I'm glad you're okay. How's Liv?" I asked as I pulled away to look at her.
"She's fine, for now, I somehow managed to convince Helena." I let out a sigh of relief for something heavy had been lifted off my chest.
"Oh that's a relief," I breathed.
"Yes but it won't be for long. Anyway, here..." she said, handing me a photo of an unknown man in black trench coat, crossing the street, "That's Lucian Carpenter, an ex-soldier who manages some of Helena's drug facilities."
I hesitantly took the photo from her, "So, business talk in the morning, got it."
She sighed, "As much as I want to stay longer, I can't. I barely managed to escape her guards.
I nodded then scanned the photo she gave me."Um, he looks...dangerous."
"Because he is and he's ruthless. He's one of the three entrusted by The Mother to run her business... And as for the other two, I'm currently working on it."
"So a triad manages Helena's drug facilities..."
"Yes. Eliminating them one by one..."
"Is like hitting where it hurts the most," I finished for her, "Hitting the business would crumple the Mighty Mother."
"Exactly!"
"How are you gonna do that?" Sara spoke up, looking a little distress.
I smirked, "I guess it's time to call in the Violent Storm."
*
"Ready to infiltrate?" I asked through my comm while I watched two enemies in the distance, lingering by the entrance, carrying big guns.
"Let's get it on," Val, our new member and Ryan's girlfriend answered excitedly. The first time I met her earlier, I instantly grew fond of her, with just a short conversation with her and hearing her sarcastic remarks earlier.
I smirked at her who was laying on her stomach beside me and pulled up the mask, covering the lower half of my face. She did the same and with a nod, I stood up and scurried towards the guards by the door, training my gun with a silencer on, to them. One of them saw me but before he could lift his big gun, I already pulled the trigger, instantly dropping him to the ground. I shot the other one effortlessly before leaning my back flat to the wall. As I watched Val did the same, Ryan, Darren and Sean stood in front of us, facing the door.
"Alarms and cameras have been deactivated," Ryan spoke up as he put the iPad to his vest's chest pocket.
"Oh that's sweet of you babe," Val said sweetly.
"Can we storm in now?" Sean spoke impatiently.
I raised my arm, gesturing to the door, "Be my guest." With that, Val kicked the door open and all hell broke loose. One guard to another, our bullets hadn't missed any of them and I could tell, the four were enjoying it for it has been a while since I gave them one hell of a mission.
I hid behind a pillar as I reloaded my gun then went back in the game. I admit, I missed the euphoria of guns blazing, my adrenaline wouldn't stop kicking, I could feel the heat on my hand holding the gun, which only meant that I didn't want the gunfight to stop. Sadly, the enemies were far too easy for my liking.
"Guys, think you can handle them?" I asked through raging gunshots.
"Piece of cake," Darren answered confidently.
"Then I'll leave you all to it. Ryan, you're with me."
"Got it!"
After shooting two enemies, we burst through the door leading to another room with a bunch of crates inside. They probably contained the drugs they manufactured in this facility.
"Which way to the office?" I asked urgently.
Ryan briefly scanned his iPad. "This way." I followed behind him as he opened the door but we were greeted with five armed guys. We didn't hesitate to open fire, knocking three of them instantly.
"Wanna take care of them?" I asked smirking.
Ryan grinned, "Gladly." With a wink, he peeled off his back from the wall and pointed his gun to the two, hitting them on the chest and stomach. As the path was clear, we proceeded in finding Carpenter's office. We passed by a room where the drugs were being made and processed. It reminded me why we had to burn this place down after we got what we wanted.
When we found his office, Lucian was nowhere to be seen. If I wasn't mistaken, his guard must had informed  him of the commotion we created. As soon as Ryan managed to open the door, we immediately went inside and I started rummaging papers on his table to find some clues or better the location of the other facilities while Ryan tried to access Lucian's computer.
"Ugh, it's password protected," he whined.
"Can you open it?"
"I can but it would take a while."
"Then start crackin' it."
When I only found useless documents, I decided to keep watch while Ryan was taking his time. I was on a high alert because any moment someone would walk through that door. And I was right. The door flew open and came in Lucian Carpenter in his glorious black trench coat, looking dangerously fatal. The photo Violet gave me didn't do any justice when I got a good look at him, he was really scary in person with his long scar above his left brow that ended inches below his left eye.
"Scarlett, we have no sight of Carpenter so far," Darren spoke through the comm.
"Don't worry, I got my eyes on him now," I mumbled as I stepped back, "Ryan?"
"Yeah, I'm...in. Just need to- Holy shit! Is that...?" he trailed off.
"Lucian Carpenter. How much time you need?"
"Give me a few minutes."
I took a deep breath, "Okay. I'll hold him off until you're done."
"Scarlett be careful." I smiled behind my mask even though he couldn't see it before stepping out of the small office, aiming my gun to Lucian who was standing in the distance. He was holding his gun but he didn't aim it at me as he stood still, watching me like a hawk.
After a minute of our staring contest, he unexpectedly let go of his gun, dropping it to the floor making me raise my brow. Without delay, he charged at me without even thinking I was pointing a gun at him and I pulled the trigger. But to my horror, it just clicked, making me realize I was out of bullet.
"Shit," I mumbled before ducking as his fist swung above my head. His other hand drew an uppercut but luckily I managed o step back. As I stared at him, I threw my gun to the side and this time, I initiated another round of attack. He easily blocked my punch and kick and swiftly countered a punch on my way. I barely evaded it but his second punch had landed on my gut, knocking the wind out of me and as I bent forward, he caught my back and effortlessly threw me to the table. I landed on the floor with an 'oof' bringing the table with me. It hurt but I had no time to feel the pain as he was advancing again.
Kicking the table out of my way, I brought my foot forward hitting him on the shin causing him to stagger back. I then stood up and delivered a kick to his gut, sending him to the wall, on his back. I swung a fist at him, hitting his jaw and then I threw another but he avoided it and my fist landed on the wall instead. And before I could comprehend, I briefly saw stars when his fist hit me, I could taste blood on my mouth.
As I was disoriented, his hand found my neck, briefly choking me before slamming me to the floor, knocking the breath out of me. My vision was momentarily engulfed with darkness and I thought I would pass out. I tried moving to my side as I coughed and groaned, trying to catch my breathing. Some blood had flowed out of my mouth, I wanted to take off my mask to give me some air but I shouldn't as I didn't want him to see my face.
When I managed on to my palms and knees, an arm draped around my neck, instantly tightening the hold as I was being pulled up. I struggled against his arm as it was crushing my windpipes.
"Whoever you are...I'm sorry you have to die this way," he said, his voice sending shivers down my spine. With my remaining strenth, I repeatedly elbowed his side, hoping it would loosen his hold but he didn't budge.
As I was slowly losing consciousness, gunshots rang through the room, followed by him loosening his arm on my neck until he dropped to the ground, bringing me with him. I whisked his arm from my neck and quickly pulled down my mask, taking deep breaths.
"Sorry it took so long," Ryan's voice echoed in my head making me open my eyes and saw him peering down on me, smirking.
I smiled, "No problem." I took his hand and he pulled me up. "Thanks. Did you get anything from his computer?" I added as I rubbed my neck.
"Yes. I know the locations on the other facilities under his management. Are yoou okay?"
I nodded, "Yeah. Got worked up a little bit."
He chuckled, "Huh, says you." I rolled my eyes and brought my hand near my ear to speak to the comm, "Guys, are the bombs set?"
"Yup. Just waiting for you to blow them up," Sean answered delightedly.
"Good. But before that..." I trailed off as I searched Lucian's pants' pockets and found his phone, "...let's call the Mighty Mother first." I looked at Ryan with a raised brow for confirmation and he nodded, I pulled back up my half mask before searching through Lucian's contacts. When I found The Mother's number, I promptly called her.
"Lucian," she answered after few seconds. "I hope you're calling me with a good news?"
Pressing a tiny button on the mask just in my neck, I spoke up, "It's definitely a good news Mother." I smirked when I heard my voice changed into a low deep voice.
"Who is this? why do you have Lucian's phone?"
"Oh Mother, Lucian's dead. It's just a matter of time before I find the other two and burn your facilities down to the ground." I grinned when I heard her deep breathings on the other end.
"Whoever you are, you have no idea who you're dealing with."
I chuckled, "Oh I know exactly who I'm dealing with, but you don't Mother. If I were you, I'll start praying for I will come after you. Goodbye, Mother." I ended the call and looked at Ryan who just shrieked after hearing my threat.
"Oh that was chilling Scarlett."
"Thanks. Now let's get out of here and burn this mother-effing facility to the ground."
