Taking the opportunity while Helena was distracted, I immediately reached out for my sword, and deflected her sword away before stabbing her on her thigh, causing her to yell in pain. I let go of the sword, and quickly rolled away from her, ignoring the pain on my stomach. Crouching, I looked at her, panting, as she slowly pulled the sword impaled on her thigh, before my gaze momentarily flickered to Darren and Val fighting off the remaining enemies as they managed to reach them while they were gunning them down.
I was about to shift my attention to Helena when I caught a glimpse of someone familiar, and when I got a good look at them, I felt like my heart would jump out of my chest when I saw Liv, fending off some enemies, and standing beside her was no other than Black. I had no idea what she was thinking, coming back here, and fighting off enemies like a pro. It angered me that she had to come back here, exposing herself to danger, and making me worry for her safety.
I just hoped Black wouldn't let her got hurt.
And speaking of Black, whatever the reason that made him change his mind, I actually didn't care, and him being here still didn't change how I felt about him. He turned his back on me once, and that was enough for me to hate him.
"Baby, look out!!" Liv suddenly shouted when we met gazes, and bringing my attention in front, I saw Helena swung her sword, aiming to cut my head in half, luckily, I had quick reflexes and I managed to duck down as the sword sliced through the empty space. I then quickly rolled to the side when she tried to strike me down in her second attempt.
Getting impatient, she hissed in anger and charged once again, striking and slashing her sword aggressively, I could barely avoid her attacks, even if they were now sloppy. She looked like she wasn't thinking straight anymore, blinded by rage, so long as she could whip and strike her sword, she didn't care about anything else.
As she continued with her assault, she had managed to cut my arm, causing me to shriek in pain, and then kicked me hard on the gut, making me stumble on my back. Groaning, I slowly lifted my body to sit up, and saw Helena about to thrust her sword on my chest, but unexpectedly, a sword appeared from the side, deflecting her blade. Looking up, my eyes widen when I saw Liv as she then quickly whipped her sword, trying to cut Helena, unfortunately, she briskly evaded it by leaping back.
"I got you now, baby," Liv reassured briefly glancing back at me.
I shook my head, "No Liv, what are you doing? You can't take her on alone...Let me do it," I breathed, forcing myself up, and stood beside her as she eyed Helena cautiously.
"You're badly wounded Scar. I can't let you get hurt more than you already have."
"Liv, don't--..."
"Oh, the damsel in distress wants to be a knight in shining armor...how romantic," Helena butted in, cutting my statement, "...but I don't have time for this...I will kill you both!" she suddenly hissed before charging towards us, and it caught me off guard when I was unexpectedly pushed to the side by Liv as clashed her sword to Helena's. She staggered back from the impact, and barely avoided Helena's second strike, then the next.
Wobbling up, I hurried to a nearby 'samurai' girl who had her back facing me, and without delay, I twisted her neck, hearing a faint snap before snatching her sword, and slayed two more. Black saw me as I met his gaze, and I gave him a subtle nod. When I saw him nearing me, cutting some girls at the same time, I immediately ran towards Liv and Helena, knowing he would strike down who would dare go after me.
When I saw Helena had managed to wound Liv on her arm, I swiftly raised my sword as soon as I reached them, and struck her down, but she was quick to block it. She limped back, putting a distance between us as I pulled Liv near me. We looked at each other briefly, before charging to The Mother, together.
Even if I had Liv by my side, and I noticed how we were giving Helena a hard time defending herself, I still felt perturbed, and couldn't quiet concentrate because not only I was worried for myself, but also for Liv, since she wasn't experienced in fighting, and I didn't want her to get hurt more than she already was.
As we continued bombarding Helena with our simultaneous attacks, I had managed to slice her belly, causing her to step back as she took in what I just did. I momentarily stopped as I looked at her cautiously, waiting for what she was about to do, but, unexpectedly, Liv had charged towards her without thinking twice, readying her sword to cut Helena.
"No, Liv!" I shouted as I trotted to them, and swiftly parried Helena's blade as it was about to lunge through Liv's stomach before she could even land her sword to Helena. I took the opportunity while Helena was recovering, and I immediately thrust my sword to her belly, it went through all the way. She went still as she looked stunned meeting my gaze, and then slowly, her gaze traveled to where my sword was, impaled in her belly. She dropped her sword, before looking back up at me, blood had now dripped from her mouth.
"Scarlett..." Liv mumbled behind me, I could tell from her voice she was shocked.
"You..." Helena breathed, "it's not...over yet," she added wearily making me frown.
"What?" I asked confusedly, and suddenly, she held the blade with both hands, catching me off guard, then abruptly pulled it in deeper, pulling me close at the same time as I was still holding the hilt, before snaking her hand behind, and promptly pulled a knife. Before I could even move, she had already thrust the knife on my stomach.
"NO!!" I heard Liv screamed out before seeing her lunged her sword to Helena's chest. Everything had slowed down then on as I watched her pulled the blade, and pushed Helena back, feeling the knife wrenched out from my stomach at the same time.
Watching Helena as she fell to the floor, I didn't realize my knees had also gave in until I felt Liv's arms wrapped around me, inhibiting my fall. I felt her lowering me down on the floor, and I stared at her frantic face as she spoke, unable to make out what she was saying. It felt like I had no control over my body all of a sudden, and I couldn't comprehend what was going on around me, but in mere seconds, that was when I felt an intense pain on my stomach, bringing me back to my senses. My hand instinctively reached out for the stab wound, only to touch Liv's hand that was already putting a pressure onto it.
Resting my hand atop hers, I centered my focus on her warmth instead of the searing pain, and clenched my jaw to keep me from hissing. I didn't want her to worry more than she already was because it would just hurt me watching her.
"I got you, baby, just hold on," Liv reassured, finally hearing her voice as she quickly wiped a tear that had rolled down on her cheeks.
I groaned, then forced a smile, "Y-You did it...Helena's gone...You and your parents...are safe now."
"Shhh, I know, but it's all thanks to you. You save us, Scarlett," God, I hated myself for making her cry like this. She had been through so much already and here I was, adding to her misery.
Seconds passed by, I felt like my body had became numb, and my eyes were starting to droop, feeling sleepy. I wanted to tell Liv I would like to take a nap, and not to worry, but even opening my mouth was like an extra work.
Forcing a tiny smile at her, I was about to close my eyes when Black suddenly appeared on my view.
"You can't die Scarlett," he eventually said, looking frantic.
Uh, who says I'm dying?  I wanted to retort back, but I was just too exhausted to even deal with him.
"Just hold on...I'm not gonna lose you, like how I lost her," he added, making me confused. If I wasn't in this situation, I would have questioned what he meant until he would stop being vague, unfortunately, he got lucky this time.
Another wave of exhaustion had hit me once again, and this time, it was hard to stay awake any longer. As my consciousness had started to drift, I felt like I was being lifted up with a pair of strong warm arms, and even if I wanted to argue, because damn, I didn't want to be carried by Black, I didn't have the strength to move, so for the love of God, I let him be, and let the darkness consumed me entirely.
*
I forced my eyes open, wanting to stop whatever the hell was constantly beeping, interfering with my sleep. As my vision had slowly adjusted, I looked around the somewhat familiar room, until I felt the oxygen tube on my nose. Suddenly, I recalled what happened to me, the stabbing, the death of Helena, Liv's crying, and Black carrying me. How I ended up here? I wasn't sure, and I couldn't exactly tell where was here, as my mind was a bit messy at the moment.
"She's awake!" A familiar voice rang through the room, and Val eventually appeared beside the bed, seconds later, Ryan, Darren, and Sean appeared next.
Darren unexpectedly engulfed me in a hug, causing me to jolt in pain.
"Oh, sorry I forgot," he apologized and stepped back. I took a moment to compose myself before nodding.
"Where am I?" I queried, looking at them expectantly.
"Man, do you really hate this place that you already forgot what it looks like?" Sean retorted, and I narrowed my eyes at him. Seeing my reaction, he then smiled sheepishly, "You're at the Agency's infirmary, Scarlett." And that explained why it was somewhat familiar. Yes, I had been here, but I had never stayed in this room long enough to admire every nook and cranny, and I had  never been hurt worse during my missions, so I didn't have reasons to step foot in here.
"How long was I out?"
"Long enough to make your girlfriend crazy, waiting for you to wake up," Ryan answered immediately.
"Oh, no, where is she?" I asked anxiously. How could I forgot to ask them about her in the first place? She must be worried sick.
"Relax, she went home for a while, but she'll be back soon," Val reassured, "...Because of you Scarlett, the Coxs are now back to their old lives, free from worries and threats."
I shook my head, remembering something, "No, Helena has allies, we couldn't be so sure," I argued.
Darren smirked, "What do you think we were doing while you were out?...Scarlett, you've been asleep for a week, and while you were out, we spent our time taking down what's left of the Red Circle, thanks to the files we found at Helena's estate...The Red Circle is no more, Scar, so is Helena."
I sighed, and leaned back on the bed, feeling a huge weight had been lifted off my chest. "Thanks guys, for everything."
"Ohh, you're getting soft, Smith," Ryan mocked.
I narrowed my eyes at him, "Hey, where were you and Sean that night?... Man, you missed one hell of a fight."
Sean rolled his eyes, "Of course, you had to mention it...We were babysitting Olivia's parents, for God sake. Don't get me wrong, the Coxs are okay, but babysitting is the most boring job, and I hate it. Lucky for you, you got all the fun that night."
"Yeah, fun," I said sarcastically, gesturing on my stomach wounds.
Talking to the gang was something I hadn't realized I missed until now. I had been too focused on protecting Liv that I didn't get the chance to hang out with them like I wanted to. Not that I regretted spending time with Liv though. I loved every moment I spent with her, it was just that I felt like I had neglected my friends on the process.
I admit, it felt good to bicker with them again, despite the not-so-ideal situation I was in right now. If I wasn't on a bed, and with things had already calmed down, I would have gone out with them, go to clubs, share some drinks, just like old times, of course with Liv by my side.
I didn't know how long we were talking and laughing with each other that we hadn't noticed someone had already entered the room, until they cleared their throat, making their presence known.
"Oh, Olivia, you're here," Val stated the obvious as others followed her gaze.
"I can't believe you guys forgot to call me," she said angrily as she crossed her arms, shifting her burning gaze at us. There was a fleeting moment of silence until Val broke it by clearing her throat.
"Uh, y-yeah, Sean, why haven't you called her?" she suddenly asked, looking alarmed.
"Why me? I thought she told Ryan to call her," Sean retorted.
Ryan immediately raised his hands, "Woah, I didn't remember Olivia told me something."
I rolled my eyes, "Okay guys, that's enough. Why don't you give us some privacy?"
"Yeah, sure," Darren replied, and the gang quickly strode out of the room in silence. Looking back at Liv, she still hadn't moved from her spot, her arms still folded, glaring directly at me.
I smiled at her, "Hey, babe," I greeted warmly. When she didn't acknowledge my greeting, I shifted uncomfortably on my bed, but didn't dare avoid her sharp glare, until few moments later, she slowly shook her head, then suddenly slid on my side, and instantly buried me in a hug. I groaned when she had pressed my wound, but I didn't stop her, and instead, I returned her hug.
God, I missed her so much, it hurt.
"I miss you, baby," she mumbled as she buried her face on my neck.
"I miss you too," I replied sincerely, "...how are you?"
She looked at me with tears in her eyes, "I should be the one asking you that...You scared the crap out of me, Scarlett, you know that?"
I cupped her face, brushing her hair with my other hand, at the same time, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you."
"It doesn't matter...You're awake, that's what matters now." She kissed me briefly then rested her forehead on mine. "I love you, baby."
"And I love you...more than anything."
