Monday morning came and I was already changed for school. I came home last night from the hospital after the doctors assured me I was fine, except for few bruises and scrapes and a sprained wrist which totally sucked because it was diminishing my poise. But atleast it wasn't my face took the most damage, just a minor scrape on my forehead, or else I might as well be dead than living a life with a mangled face.
Last night my parents called letting me know they would be back on Wednesday. I was a little angry at them for not calling me sooner but they apologized about it so I let it slip. Honestly, I didn't have even the slightest idea where my parents had gone and frankly I didn't care anymore since I was used to it. They were just so secretive and often kept me in the dark about their business. They were rarely at home and it kind of sucked at first but I got past it as time went by.
With that being said, still I couldn't bring myself to tell them how I almost got killed by some psycho masked girl because I didn't want them to worry. Although I so wanted to ask them for bodyguards, I decided not to since bodyguards didn't know the definition of personal space.
After I was done with my make up, I went out and got in my car and sped off to school. I reached the school in less than 10 minutes and immediately parked the car at the usual spot. One of the perks of being a popular bitch was having a permanent parking spot. No one would really dare take up my parking spot or they would know what was coming for them.
I reached the classroom and as a habit, I pushed open the door without bothering to knock. Mrs. P huffed and glared at me as I made my way to my seat. I was surprised she didn't say something or reprimanded me, I guess she was getting tired of doing that. Good for her.
I smirked at my boyfriend who was checking me out as always before sitting at my chair. Mrs. P continued her discussion a few minutes after and I forced myself to pay attention to her. After some time, my focused swayed when I realized I hadn't notice her familiar face. I looked at her seat and noticed that it was empty. Although I hated her to the guts, I couldn't help but feel disappointed she wasn't around. My mood instantly dampened and the tiny will to listen Mrs. P's freaking discussion was gone. So I ended up doodling on my notebook the entire session.
Lunch came and I was feeling extremely bored that I wanted to cut classes and go home, which was pretty tempting by the way. As usual Brad was becoming touchy and I knew he wanted to make out with me but I wasn't in the mood so I kinda pushed him away and asked for Elle to sit beside me instead. With a scowling face, Brad stood up and walked away. I sighed in relief knowing that no one would bother me when I sleep. Elle on the other hand, continued eating like nothing happened which I was grateful.
"Wake me up when the bell rings," I said before resting my head on my right arm in the table while my left hand with a sprain was well rested beside my head. What I was doing wasn't lady-like for me but I didn't really care as long as I could sleep. I didn't know why I felt dead since this morning. Maybe because I was looking for some drama or someone to argue and Samantha was the only one who could give me that that. She was basically the most interesting thing in this school aside from cheerleading and everything was just plain boring. Did I mention I hated Samantha to the guts? Yeah, but although I hated her, I liked having her around. She was like the spice to my boring bitchy school life.
"Oh my God what happened to her?" Elle uttered beside me.
"What?" I said, looking up at her. Her lips curled up like a pout, pointing to something in front of us. I frowned and looked at to where she was looking and saw Samantha and Sara walking towards their usual table. But what caught me off guard was Samantha limping in every step, there was a short gash on her right cheekbone and near her temple. Like Elle and I, students were looking at them curiously also as Sara held her arm and ushered her to sit. What happened to her? Did someone beat her up or something? Did she get into an accident?
My sleepiness and boredom disappeared as I watched her intently the whole time. She was facing at my direction so it was easier for me to get a look at her face. Her face would scrunch up at some point of her movements which got me thinking, how the hell she still managed to come to school when she was basically in pain. I mean, was school this important to her? Couldn't she just rest for few days? I just hated seeing her like this.
My whole lunch period was spent watching them instead of sleeping. I didn't know what got into me but I couldn't keep my eyes off of her. It was like my eyes had life on their own because they would always look at her even if my mind wasn't up for it. Honestly, even if her face was marred with gash wounds, she still looked beautiful. Wait, did I just say that? What is wrong with me?
Elle and I parted ways when we were out of the cafeteria, she went to her class but I, on the other hand, followed Samantha and Sara. I didn't know what has gotten into me but a sudden urge to follow them was potent in my being.
They walked little which was kind of annoying but I understood considering Samantha's condition. They made their way to the comfort room and went inside. Now what? I sighed while looking at the closed door.
Angry at myself, I pushed open the door and sashayed inside to make use of my wasted time. Sara looked surprised at my sudden intrusion but Samantha remained as calm as ever. I noticed Sara's hand was touching Samantha's shoulder which was irritating to see but I ignored them and walked near to the mirror.
It was like cat got their tongues as they remained silent in my presence. I pretended fixing my hair and makeup for a few minutes. After I was done, I turned towards the two.
"What happened to you?" I asked deadpanned. Samantha huffed and leaned against the wall while looking at me."Hey Samantha I'm talking to you."
Her tongue clicked and shifted her gaze to Sara. "Sara , thanks for assisting me, I appreciate it but you should go to your class now, you're already late. I can handle myself."
"Are you sure?"
I rolled my eyes, "Yeah she's fine just go already," I answered. Sara glared at me for a moment before opening the door and went out after leaving a smile to Samantha.
"What do you want?" Samantha asked nonchalantly, crossing her arms to her chest which made her groan in pain.
"An answer to my question."
"Why do you care?"
"I don't, I'm just curious that's all."
"Well I have nothing to say to you, so you better stop asking," she retorted and walked towards the door.
My jaw clenched as the anger was threatening to slip under my calm composure. "Why are you being mean to me?"
"Uh because you're a bitch?" She said without looking back at me and opened the door, leaving me half-angry but amused at the same time. I admit, she could be a bitch who could anger me whenever she wanted but it was amusing at the same time because she could challenge me and I liked it.
After a minute of calming myself, I went out of the room and caught up beside Samantha.
"God, not again Cox. I'm not in the mood."
"Neither am I."
"Then why are you walking with me?"
"Uh because I can keep up with you and we're going to the same class and you seem to forget that we are practically classmates so I don't see any problem with me walking to the class with my classmate. Do you?"
Her eyes narrowed for a second, "Whatever!"
I smirked as I won the argument. We walked slowly side by side, although the slowness annoyed me earlier but now I wasn't feeling it at all, I felt relaxed and contented instead which was weird for me. I hadn't felt like this in a long time and frankly, I kinda missed it.
We finally reached our classroom and I opened the door for her without knocking. It was unusual of me to be doing this thing but it felt right at the moment. Her brows arched in confusion which I smiled in return and gestured for her to come in first which she obliged.
Like Mrs. Pierce earlier, our teacher didn't comment at our tardiness and just watched at us settled ourselves. As I had said, I guess they were getting tired of scolding me now thinking that it was still no use since I wouldn't obey what they wanted me to do and if they would send me to the principal's office, I would always get out unscathed. I didn't know why but I never asked because it was always be in my favor in the end, so it was a win-win for me.
The class ended pretty quickly without me realizing as I actually listened to the discussion the whole time. Well, I forced myself to listen was the correct statement since Samantha was constantly eyeing me the whole time and I couldn't really look back at her because then our gazes would meet, so I distracted myself from her by listening to the discussion.
It was already our vacant period. I was planning to go home so that Brad wouldn't see me as I was totally not in the mood for him today. I went to my locker to dump my book inside and spotted Samantha doing the same to her books.
"Fuck," she hissed when a book fell down. Biting her lower lip, she attempted to pick up the book but winced in pain when she bent a little. She stood back up and was about to punched the locker in anger but decided not to.
Not wanting to look at her like that, I jogged towards her and picked up the book.
"Here,"
She looked up at me with an unreadable expression and reluctantly accepted the book, "Thanks!"
I smiled and immediately went back to my locker to avoid any awkwardness with her. Opening my locker, I shoved the books I was holding and locked it. I turned around but jolted back, my back hitting the lockers behind me when I saw Samantha standing in front, looking at me with her usual calm expression. My hand flew to my chest, calming my pounding heart,
"Hells, you almost gave me a heart attack!"
"Well I didn't mean to."
"Do you want something?"
"Why are you being a little nice to me today?" she asked gently crossing her arms on her chest.
I frowned, "I am?"
"Yeah, but a little." I nodded, unsure of what I was going to say next. Luckily, she was keeping the conversation alive when she asked me,
"So where's your boyfriend? It's rare for you to be alone during this time."
"I don't know, I'm not in the mood to see him. Actually, I'm planning to go home and sleep until our practice starts. It's boring here anyway and I don't have another spots I could stay without Brad seeing me."
She hummed in response and seemed to be thinking of something. Thinking that it was the end of our conversation, I was about to excuse myself when she spoke up.
"Well since Sara couldn't hang out with me this time and I don't have something to do considering my situation right now, maybe we can grab a bite if you're up for it. I'm kinda hungry and it's the least I can do for opening that door earlier and picking up my book," she said casually. I was speechless and my mind seemed to be not working properly right now as I was surprised at her offer. She said it casually like it was nothing but for me, it was confusing. One minute she was acting like a bitch and the next she was being friendly.
"Well I take that as a no then,"
"W-What? Oh no, I mean, yes but not that..." I gritted my teeth and calmed my nerves, "yes, we can go grab a bite."
She smiled,"Okay. You drive!"
"What? So you just wanted a driver after all."
"Yeah, I'm hungry and look at me, do you think I can drive?"
I cocked my eyebrow, "I'd rather sleep than be your driver."
"Fine! I was planning to tell you a secret spot where Brad doesn't know but it's cool. See you at practice!" She walked away leaving me processing the thing she said. If I know a secret spot then it wouldn't be a problem for me if I wasn't in the mood to hang out with Brad or anyone in particular. In that way, I wouldn't have to go home or run away from him since Brad knew where I usually go when I tried to avoid him.
"Wait Samantha," I yelled, jogging towards her walking figure.
We reached my car and settled ourselves inside. Samantha was giving me direction where she would like to go as I was driving following the direction like her chauffeur. Honestly, I had no idea what was running through her mind right now. I mean we didn't like each other, we bickered when we got the chance to and we sure argued about steps and whatnot during practice and then just out of the blue, she asked me to hang out with her. What's up with her anyway? And what's up with me? Agreeing to be her chauffeur? Huh!
I pushed the nonsense thoughts away when I pulled up to a familiar side of the street as what she instructed. I groaned and gritted my teeth as I looked around the street for the second time. I must had gotten caught up with my thoughts that I didn't realize where I was driving.
"Really?" I asked bitterly.
"What?"
"I was avoiding Brad and here you are wanting to grab a bite in a pastry shop across Brad's apartment building! Are you mocking me Samantha?" I hissed angrily.
"Are you kidding me Cox? How would I know Brad is living across here? I'm not even close with your boyfriend so why would I know?" she asked arching her eyebrow.
She has a point! Way to go Liv!
"Whatever!," I huffed before exiting the car, slamming the door forcefully. I walked towards the shop and entered without waiting for Samantha. The bell chimed in as soon as I opened the door and the man behind the counter looked up then smiled after he saw me. I returned his smile with rolling eyes and sat in the corner, beside the large glass window.
The bell chimed in once again but I didn't look as I knew who just entered. I heard her greeted the man in the counter and ordered casually while I looked outside through the window. After a couple of minutes, she slid a small plate of chocolate Swiss roll in front of me.
I looked at her skeptically while she was dragging the chair across me and sat down.
"I didn't order this."
"I know and I know you can't resist chocolate rolls."
"How?"
"I just know. Now eat it and I bet you won't be disappointed." I picked up the spoon and scoop some of the roll bringing it to my mouth. I moaned as the sweetness melted through my mouth. I had never tasted something so delicious like this before. It was perfect.
Couldn't get enough of the taste, I scoop another one and shoved it to my mouth and again, the taste delighted me. I heard Samantha snickered across me but I didn't mind her as I was enjoying my chocolate roll.
"I guess I'm right afterall."
"How come I haven't thought of checking this shop before? God, I'm so stupid."
She chuckled, "Thanks to me then."
"Hmm, I don't really say thanks to anyone but I can make an exception, so thanks."
"You're welcome."
I smiled and continue digging my chocolate roll and she did the same. While I was savoring my food, I eyed her Rum Cake. It looked really delicious and maybe it tasted delicious too. A silly thought crossed my mind and after shoving the last spoon of my roll into my mouth, I brought the spoon down to her cake and immediately scooped a spoonful then promptly bringing it to my mouth. A burst of new taste had explored my mouth which made me giggle in delight.
"Oh you're such a pig!" she hissed, glaring at me. I laughed at her reaction while covering my mouth. She narrowed her eyes for a minute before she burst in laughter also.
"God, t-that was c-cute," I stuttered in between my laughs.
"No, y-you're cute!" My laughter instantly died down so as hers when she realized what she just said. Heat rushed to my cheeks while we stared at each other, both unmoving. That cute word must have accidentally slipped from her mouth.
"We should go!"
"Yeah, good idea," I replied before standing up. I walked towards the door while she trailed behind.
The whole ride back was filled with an uncomfortable silence that neither of us has the audacity to break it. It was funny because with just one word, everything just went back to square one. I was getting comfortable with her company and I was liking the light atmosphere around us earlier until now. I didn't know about her but I didn't think I could forget what she said anytime soon.
I parked the car on my spot and got out. I was doubting if I should walk first or walk with her but I decided to walk with her when I thought of something. She didn't complain when I walked beside her and continued to look ahead.
I cleared my throat and spoke up, "So, about that spot, where is it?"
"Right, I forgot about that."
"So? Where is it?"
She smirked and turned towards me, "Brad definitely won't look for you there just in case."
A burst of excitement spread through me,"Okay, tell me!"
"In the library!" she chuckled before walking away.
"What the hell! It's not even a secret spot!" I yelled at her walking figure. God, she's just impossible!
After changing to my practice attire, I went straight to the gym with Samantha, along with some cheerleaders. While on the way, I felt relaxed around her since we were not alone and the noises of the other girls eased the awkwardness between us which I was thankful for.
While walking, I felt a hand on my arm and I was suddenly yanked away and was pinned to a wall. I looked at Brad's smirking face then to Samantha behind him. She looked surprised but her expression immediately changed to her usual demeanor before walking away. The others girls followed her, leaving me and Brad alone. Sensing that everyone had left, Brad instantly smashed his lips to mine.
"I missed you baby," he mumbled but I pushed him away with just my right hand as anger fueled inside me.
"What the! What is wrong with you Liv?"
"I told you I'm not in the mood for you Brad."
He closed the gap again and said, "Come on, I know you missed me too?"
"Don't!" I warned but he didn't back away, instead he trailed kisses on my neck. Usually, I enjoyed him doing that but right now all I could feel was anger and disgust.
"I said don't!" I yelled pushing him away, "Stop or we're over, understand?" I walked away immediately, fortunately he didn't follow until I reached the gym. The cheerleaders already started stretching when I got inside except for Samantha who was sitting at the bleacher, looking at them.
"So what did you instruct them to do after the stretching?" I asked as soon as I was standing beside her.
"Nothing," she replied without even looking at me.
"Okay then, I'll just let them do my steps first."
"Fine." My brow quirked up at her sudden mood swing. Shaking my head, I walked towards the cheerleaders and instructed them what to do.
The whole practice went smooth and productive. I was glad that most of the dancers got the steps I taught easily. Although I may have yelled to some cheerleaders at some point but as they kept on trying, they finally perfected the steps.
The whole time, Samantha didn't argue about the steps, she didn't even utter a single word since I entered. I was curious but I let her be, knowing that I couldn't get some words out of her.
As soon as we were done for the day, I dismissed the students and headed to the bench to drink some water when I saw Sara was already sitting beside Samantha. Since I was standing not so far from them, I could hear snippets of their conversation.
"Are you sure?" Sara asked.
"Yeah."
"That's good to know. So are you going home now?"
"Yeah."
"Okay great, I'll drive you home then." I rolled my eyes at Sara's offer. It was obviously her way of getting some alone time with Samantha.
"No, you don't have to, I have my bike."
Wait, what?
I stomped towards them, uncaring if I intrude their conversation. "You have your bike and you let me drove you?" I interjected.
"What? What are you still doing here?" Sara questioned standing up, "And you drove with Samantha? You two went out? Where? When?"
"Yes we went to a pastry shop earlier," I answered, crossing my arms to my chest. "She invited me because she couldn't drive."
"And why did Samantha invite you? You two practically hate each other."
"Uh guys, I'm still here,"
"Shut up!" We both hissed to Samantha at the same time. Her hands raised up in defeat.
"I didn't know why she invited me okay? Why don't you ask her yourself! And why are you acting up like a jealous girlfriend huh?" Sara didn't answer me and just looked between me and Samantha. She bit her lower lip and averted my gaze.
"Whatever, I'm outta here. Drive yourself home Samantha," Sara blurted before running away, leaving me confused with Samantha.
"Great," I uttered in defeat.
"Okay what the hell was that?" I looked at her with a cock eyebrow. She was still sitting in her place.
"What the hell was what?" I retorted.
"That," she gestured to the direction where Sara ran off to.
I huffed, "You know what?"
"What?"
"I'm outta here. Drive yourself home Samantha." I said, walking away from her.
"Hey," she shouted.
"And don't hurt yourself," I hollered, chuckling.
Finally it was time for me to go home. This has been a long and eventful day. I didn't know if I should be happy or not about the sudden change of Samantha and I's complicated relationship. But all I knew was that even if we often bickered with each other, I liked having her around so might as well game up and start hanging out with her.
