I eyed the two girls in front of me as they continued glaring at each other. Since I invited Olivia to to that pastry shop, she started hanging out with Sara and I, well more like hanging out with me whenever she could. I had no idea what was going through with that pretty head of hers but as I thought about it, it wasn't that bad having her around because it would be easier for my job even if her bitchy attitude annoyed me. But no one would be more annoyed than Sara whenever Olivia was around. Apparently, pissing Sara off has become Olivia's routine for the past days.
Watching Olivia dragged the chair beside Sara with a smirk written on her face, I let out a heavy sigh and shook my head. Here we go again!
"Hi Sara dear, I miss you!" Olivia greeted mockingly while Sara rolled her eyes at the sudden remark.
"Sadly, I don't," Sara replied dryly.
"Oh! What a shame."
"Olivia," I called.
Olivia turned to look at me, her face lighted up, "Hello to you too Samantha!"
"Please don't start, I'm trying to read here."
"Fine," she huffed. "I just have something to give you," she added while fetching something from her jeans' pocket. Sara eyed her curiously so did I. I looked back at Olivia tentatively when her right hand suddenly reached out to my hand that was holding the book and brought it towards her. I was surprised at the sudden action and when I felt her soft palm against mine, a tingling sensation shot through my arm then to my stomach. When I registered what she was doing, I felt something between our palms so I reluctantly pulled my hand. My eyes flickered to Sara who still looked agape before unclasping my hand.
"What's this?"
"A movie ticket, duh!"
"And why would you give me this?"
She rolled her eyes, "I never thought you could be this slow Samantha," she mumbled but enough for me to hear it.
"Hey I heard that!"
"Obviously I'm giving it to you so we can watch movie together."
"Excuse me?" Sara interjected. Her eyes narrowed while looking at Olivia. "What about your boyfriend? Why don't you ask him instead," she added.
"Yeah, what about Brad?" I seconded.
She leaned back in her seat and crossed her arms, "Well I want to go out to have some fun but not with him and then I thought of you so why not? Besides, I'm tired of having him around all the time. So what do you say Samantha? I rarely do this kind of thing to anyone so you should be happy I chose you."
"No," I said deadpanned. Sara smirked at my blatant refusal. It wasn't bad to go with Olivia I supposed but I couldn't really say yes in front of Sara because clearly she didn't like the idea. I just didn't want her to be upset because it would mean that she wouldn't talk to me for days and frankly, I was liking her company.
"What? Did I hear it right?"
"I said no, so better find someone else to go with you," I said sliding the ticket to her. Of course I wasn't planning on leaving Olivia alone if she decided to go without me.
"Why not? Think about it Samantha, I'm giving you the chance to hang out with me, the most popular girl in school, for Satan's sake. Anyone would jump to any opportunities to be with me so how could you not? I'll make you popular."
"I said NO!" I bursted before I could realize what I just said. I couldn't believe how her conceitedness still pissed me off.
"Oh," she muttered suddenly looking downcasted and averted her gaze. I immediately felt a pang of guilt after my little outburst. I knew it came out strong and I totally regretted it.
With one last huff, she pushed back her chair and stood up but before she could take a step, I spoke up, "Wait!"
She slowly turned around with a raised eyebrow. I looked at Sara then back to her before letting a big sigh.
"Fine, I'll go with you," I said defeatedly.
"Really?"
I nodded which made Olivia smile, "Great! Pick me up on Sunday," she said before walking back to where she was sitting with Elle. I groaned, closing the book I had been reading when I heard Sara cursed.
"What the hell?" she said looking like she was about to burst in anger, "Are you two friends now? Because last time I checked you hate each other. Goodness! I can't believe you agreed to go with her, in front of me."
"Look, we're not friends okay and besides I'm not going alone with her."
"What do you mean?"
I grinned and leaned in, "You're coming with me."
*
Okay, I admit, I made a crazy decision of inviting Sara with me. I mean what the hell, what if someone would try to harm Olivia and I couldn't protect her the way I wanted to because I also had to protect Sara. I guess I just had to keep my eyes out and hope everything goes well tonight.
So far, the past days had been awfully quiet, no attempts or whatnot maybe because Olivia hasn't been going out lately aside from school as her parents weren't that lenient. When they got back, bodyguards swarmed their house in and out to protect them from the premise of their home but I was still in-charged of protecting Olivia whenever she may go so her dad didn't assign any. I was glad her parents were around, it made my work easier.
After I picked up Sara, I drove immediately to Olivia's. I felt nervous just thinking how Olivia would react if she saw Sara or how would this night go but I had a feeling that tonight wouldn't end quietly.
I pulled up my red camaro at the curb in front of her house and honked three times. I waited for a minute before honking again. I texted her on the way and she replied she wasn't done with her make up, up until now I guess. Of course I didn't text her first or she might wonder where I got her number so I waited for her to text me first her address, which I was wondering where the hell did she get my number. I would ask her about it later.
I waited patiently, tapping my fingers on the wheel when Sara spoke up.
"Thanks for picking me up by the way. I forgot to say that," she chuckled awkwardly. I turned to her and smiled before nodding. She was wearing a long sleeved white lace chiffon dress that ended in the middle of her thighs with her dark loose curls hanged until her chest and of course her round glasses. I must say, she totally looked pretty tonight.
"You look pretty Sara," I said before opening the door and got out. Even if it was a little dim, I still noticed her blushing before I got out. Sometimes I forgot how cute she could be.
I walked on the pathway towards the gate when I was stopped by two men in suits.
"Who are you?" the man with high cheekbones asked.
"I'm a friend of Olivia."
"Name?" said the other guy.
"Tell your boss it's Scarlett Smith," the guy with the high cheekbones spoke to his earpiece and few seconds later he turned towards me.
"I'm sorry for the delay Ms. Smith," he said, gesturing for me to enter as the gate slid sideward. The guards eyed me suspiciously as I continued walking down the path until I reached the door. Ringing the bell twice, the door flew open and I was greeted by a maid. She smiled before stepping aside, letting me in.
"Ah you must be Scarlett," Mr. Cox remarked as soon as I entered the living room. Seeing the man personally for the first time sent shivers down to my spine. He was pretty intimidating and if I wasn't used to meeting person like him, my knees would already buckle in his presence. His stare was pretty intense but I stood my ground firmly. He was intimidating, I gave him that but not enough to frighten me.
I smiled, "Yes. It's nice to finally meet you Mr.Cox!"
"Likewise dear. I must say," he said while pouring wine to his glass, "you really do live up to your reputation considering how you managed to keep my daughter safe while we were away."
"I always take my job seriously Mr. Cox."
"Hmmm...that's a relief. Until this mess gets taken care of, I hope you protect my daughter at any costs."
"I understand."
"Ah speaking of my little angel," I looked to where Mr. Cox was looking and saw Olivia descended down the stairs. My breath caught up in my throat as I trained my eyes from her fair long legs to her beautiful face. She was wearing an off-shoulder mini black tight dress that showed enough of her cleavage and hugged her curves perfectly. She was the definition of beautiful and sexy, plus she was a blonde, that added to her charm. I forced myself to look away as I was getting entranced by her.
"I see you already met my date tonight dad," I looked up at her questioningly. She just smirked and winked before turning to her dad.
"Date?" Mr. Cox asked.
She chuckled, "It's not what you think dad. I'll see you later," she said hastily before kissing her dad to the cheek. "Come on Samantha."
I smiled at Mr. Cox before following Olivia out. She stopped walking ahead when we reached the path outside and turned to look at me.
"I see you took off your wrist brace."
She smiled and nodded, "My wrist is fine now and besides I didn't feel pretty when I was wearing it." I just rolled my eyes and shook my head.
"So what can you say about my dad?"
"Intimidating,"
"Yeah he gets that a lot." I caught up to her side and we started walking.
"And you're like the young female version of him," I added which made her chuckle.
"You're right but enough of my dad. I want to ask...how do I look?"
"You look good," I simply said.
"Just good?"
"No, you look awful!" She playfully punched me on my arm and then we both chuckled. Oh thinking about it, I felt like I was underdressed all of a sudden with just a plain white v neck tight shirt and a leather jacket and a pair of black tight jeans with black knee high flat boots. But it didn't matter actually as long as I was comfortable and I could easily move if something happens.
When we reached outside the gate, she stopped in her tracks, looking at the car.
"What the hell is she doing here? I don't remember asking her!"
"I invited her."
"And why would you do that huh?" she hissed.
"Because I can and if you don't want her around, then you can turn your back and walk back to your house. Sara and I can still watch the movie without you around," I smirked before leaving her in her spot. I confidently strutted to the car thinking that she would follow me in 5...4...3...2...
"Damn you Samantha," she yelled and I heard the clacking sound of her heels. When I reached the car, I opened the car door. Sara was already standing beside me, smirking.
"Okay don't tell me-"
"Yes," I cut in.
"Arghhh, I hate you both," she hissed causing Sara and I to snicker before getting in. This might not be a bad idea after all.
*
The entire ride to the movie theater was quiet, I mean Olivia was quiet the entire ride while Sara and I were laughing at some random silly things. I wasn't trying to mock her or anything, it was that I prefer to lighten things up. I knew Olivia was fuming in anger but I hated it if she would burst out inside the car so I let her be in the backseat.
Before we got inside the theater, Sara and I bought our own snacks while Olivia just stayed back, crossing her arms as if she was looking bored. After paying for my snacks, I handed them over to Sara to hold before grabbing Olivia's snacks that I bought and  walked towards her and handed her the popcorn and a bottle of soda. She didn't accept the snack I held so I gave her a puppy look and nodded to what I was holding. This was the least I could do for ignoring her earlier.
She looked down to the snacks then back to my puppy look before sighing, "Fine, give me that," I gave her the popcorn and soda, "and stop being cute."
"I'm cute?" Well I didn't expect her to say that word since it made things awkward between us when I accidentally said that word aloud. I forced myself to keep the blush inside. Hells, it would be embarrassing if she saw me flustered with just the cute word.
"Ah no, not at all, I mean not that 'cute' cute, I mean a bad...cute? Ahhh just forget what I said. Let's go!" She murmured before brushing past me. Okay what just happened?  Shrugging my shoulders, I followed the two of them inside.
I almost dropped my popcorn when I jolted awake when I felt a slight push to my elbow that was propping up my lulling head. I looked to my right where Olivia was sitting, sniffing while popping some popcorn into her mouth. I turned to my left and saw Sara was also sniffling, dabbing her hanky to her cheek.
"Why the hell are you guys crying?" I whispered to no one in particular.
"Why not? It's so sad," Sara replied.
"Huh?" I looked up to the big screen and saw the main character, the billionaire guy was crying while looking at the picture of his deceased wife. "Okay? So? It's not even that emotional!" I mumbled. We were still halfway through the movie and they already started crying. Such crybabies, tsk!  Why did I even bother coming here? This was totally boring.
"Ahh why now?"
Raising my eyebrows curiously, I looked at Olivia, "What's wrong?"
"I ate all my popcorn."
"Oh that's sad," I replied nonchalantly. She huffed and glared at me for a moment before looking back at the screen. Remembering something, I quickly seached my jacket's pocket and pulled the chocolate out. I handed the Milk Duds which I bought earlier for her. Her mouth opened in surprise when she saw what I was holding.
"Wha-... Chocolate!" she squealed causing few heads to look in our direction. Someone shushed her so she immediately cowered in her seat while taking the chocolate and mouthed a thank you. I smiled softly, shifting my attention to the movie, feeling happy that I saw her smile.
The movie ended finally so as Sara and Olivia's cries. Their eyes were red and puffy when I clearly saw them outside the theater, Sara was still sniffling while Olivia was dabbing her face with her fingers, thankfully she didn't wear too much make up. I was the only one who wasn't affected by the movie because romantic movies weren't really my type, they were boring. I always went for action, thriller or horror movies. Those movies would really catch my interest.
The three of us headed towards the comfort so that Olivia could fix her make up. Sara and I were standing next to each other while we watched her applying her make up tricks. It took long for her to finish so I walked near her to practically drag her out but I stopped when the door flew open. A girl probably in our age strutted while popping a gum in her mouth. My reflexes took over and I stood near Olivia's back, covering her with my body as the girl passed by. I slightly shoved Olivia to my side away from the girl while I stared at her cautiously, so was she. Something about her looks and the way she stared at me screamed danger, so I continued pushing Olivia towards the door.
"Uh what are you doing? I'm not finished yet!"
"Well I'm tired of waiting," I lied still pushing her to the door. I nodded at Sara and she opened the door. I could tell she was also tired of waiting.
"You should know better than to stop a girl doing her make up," she hissed. Pushing her out, I held Sara's arm as she walked out. Confusion were written on their faces as they looked at me still leaning on to the door.
"Uh come on Samantha, we're gonna go," Sara urged.
"Um, can you wait for just a bit. I have a business to take care of."
"What? You dragged me out to do your bu-" I cut Olivia's statement by closing the door and locked it. I turned to the girl who was checking herself in the mirror. Checking her down, I started liking her all black style, black crop top with a black leather jacket and black tight leather leggings and cute black ankle boots and her red hair was tied to a high ponytail, definitely badass.
"Who are you?" I asked after I recovered from checking her style. Black really is beautiful!
She turned  towards me, smirking, "I could ask you the same thing, who are you?"
"Oh I'm just a nobody who likes your style."
"Thanks! Too bad, you won't see it for long."
Cocky much! "What do you want?"
"I want that Cox girl but sadly you pushed her out so I guess I have to kill you first."
I cocked my head to the side, "Bring it on!"
She grinned cockily before charging forward with her fist. I blocked her attack and countered a punch to her face but she also blocked it. She swung her fist again but I managed to duck and instantly grabbed hold of her arm and pulled her to me then I kneed her in the gut, but  she blocked it easily. We broke apart in a fighting stance. She was good I gave her that and it would be a little hard for me to end this fight early since I could feel my side started to ache.
"Hey Samantha, what are you doing there?" Olivia hollered behind the door.
"Um just a minute, I-I'm having it now," I shouted.
"Samantha huh, nice name..." the girl commented, "...for a dead girl!" she added before charging again. I managed to block her attacks but I always cowered in every block as they were getting stronger.
Few minutes later, I was panting while clutching my side as she managed to hit me with a punch. But of course I wouldn't let her off the hook easily so I charged at her for the first time but she blocked it so I made few attacks and luckily my kick landed to her gut. She staggered backwards but I didn't stop and kept the attacks coming even if the pain on my side was killing me.
"Samantha are you okay? What are those noises?" Sara shouted while pounding the door.
"I'm o...kay!" I yelled back while I pulled the girl up from her stupor. She managed to kick me on my side sending me backwards, my back hitting the sink while she stumbled back to one of the stalls. We were both groaning in pain and trying to stand back up. Forcing myself to stand, I gritted my teeth as pain shot through my side at the movement. Fortunately I managed onto my feet first and staggered towards her.
"I like fighting you but... we will continue this s-some other time," I stuttered before punching her, her head instantly lulled to the side unmoving.
"Sam open up! What's happening in there?" Olivia shouted sounding worried. I slowly made my way to the door while they continue banging it.
"S-Stop hitting the door, you children," I shouted back. Composing myself, I tried standing straight before opening the door. "Hello girls," I greeted. Both seemed shocked, their hands still in the air about to pound.
"W-What happened?" Sara recovered first from her shock.
"I slipped?"
My body went rigid when Olivia's thumb touched my bleeding lip. Her sudden touch caused a sparkling sensation in the pit of my stomach. It was a new sensation for me but it felt...good. Our gazes met and something flashed in her eyes.
"Your lip is bleeding," she said slowly and gently wiped the blood with her thumb. I didn't know what I was feeling right now but I didn't want her to stop. Our little staring contest didn't last long when someone cleared their throat. Sara. I looked down to her hand on my face and hadn't realize my hand was already holding it. As if on cue, we both pulled our own hands and averted our gazes.
"What happened in there? Where's that redhead girl?" Sara asked curiously.
"She's...busy. Come on, we have to get out of here. I'm taking you two home."
Luckily they didn't ask any questions about what happened and the three of us headed to the car. As soon as we were settled, without further ado, I started the engine and drove out of the place.
"Does your side hurt?" Sara asked worriedly. I looked back at her and smiled before nodding. She was now sitting at the backseat since Olivia wouldn't get in if she would still sit at the back. Olivia must had been curious also as she kept looking down at my hand that was clutching my side.
"What really happened to you Sam?" Hearing her called me Sam for the first time sounded pleasant even if it wasn't my real name. I wonder what would I feel if she would call me by my real name?
"I fell down the stairs."
She snorted, "What? Are you serious?"
No!
"Yes why?"
"How clumsy," I narrowed my eyes while she chuckled. How mean!
We rode for a couple of minutes in calm silence when I had to look back at the rear-view mirror as I noticed two black cars appeared behind. Definitely bad guys, I thought. They must had found us on the way.
"Uh girls, who likes to go on an evening adventure?"
"Definitely not me," Sara answered.
"Not in the mood," Olivia replied nonchalantly.
"Well I'm the driver and I like some evening adventure," I said confidently and turned up the music volume before stepping on the pedal. The girls let out a short cry and held onto their seatbelts. As expected the two cars also were speeding up.
"Are you trying to kill us Samantha?" Olivia yelled which made me chuckle.
"Oh God I wanna get out," Sara added."
"Chill girls, this won't belong," I said while overtaking the cars, they whizzed past us in a blur. Thankfully it wasn't that traffic so I could maneuver easily. I swerved to the right, barely hitting a certain car but they still managed to follow me. Come on, almost there.
"Will you girls stop shouting? I'm trying to listen to the music."
"I'm gonna fucking kill you Samantha Flynnnnn!" Olivia yelled.
The two cars were now keeping up and they were about to trap me in between but I smiled and stepped on the pedal further, gaining me some speed. The intersection was just up ahead so I went full throttle before the red light.
"Oh my God we're gonna die," Sara shouted at the top of her lungs as were already on the intersection. Swiftly glancing to each side, I didn't bother stepping on the brake even if cars were approaching from both sides. Perfect!  I zoomed past first, barely hitting the car on my right, unfortunately the first car that were tailing us didn't make it and the other stopped before getting hit by other cars. The girls didn't even notice there was an accident behind us as they were closing their eyes while shouting and music was pounding.
On the way to Sara's house was pretty silent and I had no idea what to say to them. I mean they were both shocked and scared about my little stunt. Sara didn't even say goodbye to us and just got out of the car, slamming the door behind.
"You okay?" I asked while we were almost to her house.
"Okay your face, I almost died, what were you thinking?"
"If I didn't do that, we would be dead by now,"
"What do you mean?"
"Goodnight Liv," I softly said before pulling up in front of their gate. She looked at me, her expression softened. Her shoulders sagged before sighing.
"I can't really be angry at you,"
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Goodnight Sam," she said before opening the door and got out.
"Wait!" She stopped, her back was onto me. I gathered up my courage and finally said what I had been meaning to say to her earlier, "You look beautiful tonight!"
She tilted her head to the side but didn't turn back, "Thanks, Scarlett!
