I didn't get a goodnight sleep last night as I was thinking about Olivia and the fact that she called me by my real name. How the hell did she know? Only her parents knew, were they the one who told her? If so, I might as well come clean and tell her the truth. The only reason I didn't tell her was that her parents asked me to since she didn't like having bodyguards near her, she always sneaked away without them realizing and putting herself more in danger. So I had to protect her from afar which was not easy by the way.
"Hey," I looked up from my trance and saw Sara adjusting her glasses, hesitation was written in her face. Biting my lower lip, I looked down unable to look at her after what I did last night. I totally forgot to apologize to her this morning. Great!
"Can I sit?" she asked softly and I nodded, still looking down. We sat silently opposite each other, unsure of who should speak up first. It took me few minutes to wait for her to speak up until I was having enough of it.
"I'm sorry," we both muttered at the same time. We stared at each other for a moment before bursting out in laughter. Students sitting on other tables looked at us like we were crazy but neither of us cared. My stomach was starting to hurt and I could feel tears on the edges of my eyes.
"S-Seriously, I'm s-sorry," I stuttered in between my laughter. She took a deep breath and beamed a smile at me.
"You were crazy last night but I forgive you. Just don't ever do it again."
I sighed in relief, "That's good to know and I won't." Hopefully!
"And I'm sorry for slamming the door and not saying goodbye."
"That wasn't nice but I forgive you," I answered.
"Does that mean we're friends?"
"No, I don't do friends," I said deadpanned. She sighed while rolling her eyes and took a bite of her cupcake instead. I smiled and glanced at Olivia's direction. She was sitting beside Elle as usual with two other girls. Her gaze flickered at me while she was listening but I shifted my gaze towards the book I was reading.
Practice came and I didn't bother changing since I couldn't join in because of my injury. Mr. Brooks was okay with it and he wasn't around also so it would be Olivia and me who would manage the squad as usual.
While on my way to the gym, I thought about what I would say to Olivia. Of course I was planning to tell her everything after the practice since she probably knew what I was. But if she knew, she would have confronted me already? And if she was still oblivious, then how the hell did she know my real name? I guess I had to find out.
I reached the gym and found Olivia sitting on the bleacher, tying her shoelaces. I walked to her, clearing my throat to let her know. She looked up with a surprised expression on her face. Standing up, she crossed her arms and composed herself.
"You need something?" she asked sternly.
"Can we talk after practice?"
"Yeah sure," she said, smiling.
"Great! I'll be here." She nodded before jogging towards the other girls and boys. I watched do the stretchings then to the routines. Every flex and move she made were really amusing. I couldn't take my eyes away from her, it was as if I was being pulled by her. That was why she was the captain because no one was far better than her. The way how she taught others with her steps and how she could easily come up with those steps were really amazing. For a short period of time she made already made contributed great steps. I'd say she was born to do this and I was glad she pursued in becoming a cheerleader.
"Hey co-captain, how was it?" she hollered when they finished doing the steps. I gave her two thumbs up before clapping. She beamed a smile then told the squad to take a break. She jogged towards me and picked up the bottled water beside me.
"Uh that's my water," I said but too late as she was already drinking.
"Hmm that was hydrating."
"You do realize that's my water."
"Yeah so?"
"So? It's like an indirect kiss!" I clamped my mouth shut as I had slipped once again. I was about to say that she couldn't just drink other people's drinks and that the indirect kiss was just my second reason.
"I-I hadn't thought about that," she stuttered while handing the bottle to me.
"I think we should disregard that bottle," She nodded and put the bottle away and sat down beside me.
"Hey, I'm sorry about what I did last night..." I started after a minute of silence, "...that must had been scary for you."
She snorted, "Scary was just an understatement. I thought I was gonna die and just like that, my life came flashing before me. But for some reason, I also felt the excitement, the rush, it was pretty new to me."
"I don't know if I should be relieved or not," I said chuckling.
"Haha, I guess I'm weird."
"I'm not the only one then."
The practice resumed and this time I was standing watching near the girls while they did the routines.
"Chelsea, lower your arm a little, look at the girls in front," I hollered to one of the girls.
"Mike, focus! Don't divert your attention to something or you wouldn't be able to catch her."
"Come on guys, presence of mind."
After a little yelling and correcting the cheerleaders, finally the practice ended. When the crowd already dispersed, Olivia walked up to me, panting. Beads of sweat ran down her forehead and the stray hairs from her messy ponytail were sticking to her skin. Damn, she looked sexy!
"Well you went all out in there," she commented.
"They weren't taking it seriously."
"Hmmm, yeah. Come on let's get out of here." We walked back to the bleachers and gathered our things and then made our way out. It wasn't always that I get to go with her after practice since Brad would wait for her. Come to think of it, I rarely saw them together these past few days.
"So where's your boyfriend?"
"I dumped him." I stopped walking and looked at her curiously. When she realized I stopped walking, she turned towards me with a bored look.
"You didn't,"
"Yes I did! I don't like him anymore. Even if he's the quarterback, which was the reason I said yes to him by the way, I'm kinda tired of having him around, so yeah." I remained quiet and just stared at her as I didn't know what to say to her. Although I didn't like Brad, I felt bad for him at how he easily got dumped.
"And how did he handle it?"
"Not well," she answered nonchalantly. "And speaking of the devil," she added, gazing past behind me. I turned around and saw Brad walking towards us with a grim look on his face. I stepped back a bit and stood in a protective stance in front of Olivia.
"What are you doing?"
"Protecting you,"
"Liv, can we talk?" Brad's booming voice made my head snapped back to him.
"What for? We're done Brad or do you want me to dump you again?" Hearing Olivia's remark, his nose flared while clenching his jaw.
"Please?," he said through gritted teeth. I could feel Olivia's warm breath on the base of my neck as she let out a deep sigh. With her little gesture, she could distract me anytime which was not an option for me in a situation like this.
"Samantha will you give us a minute?," Olivia's gentle voice eased me a little. I reluctantly stepped aside and walked out of earshot. I watched them talking from afar but I didn't let my guard down just in case. From what I heard, Brad has a short temper and the way he was acting now, it was possible that he might hurt Olivia.
After a couple of minutes, Brad was getting agitated and his voice became louder. After cursing, he grabbed Olivia by the arm which made her squirm in his grasp. Without second thought, I walked fast to them and pulled Brad away from Olivia. He was surprised at first but he recovered immediately.
"What do you think you're doing?" he hissed. I kept a firm hold of Olivia's wrist while glaring daggers at her ex-boyfriend.
"You were hurting her!"
"So what? I can do whatever I want to my girlfriend."
I chuckled mockingly, "Last time I checked she dumped you, so that makes you her ex-boyfriend." I let go of Olivia and pushed her gently away from me. Seeing Brad fuming in anger, no doubt what I said ticked him off.
"You'll regret you said that," he hissed before throwing a punch in my direction. Olivia cried out in surprise, and at the same time, I ducked just in time then brought my fist to his side. He made an 'oof' sound and staggered back. When he recovered, he threw another sloppy punch but I blocked and twisted his arm to his back which caused him to yelp in pain.
Bringing my face near his ear, I said, "Touch Olivia again and you'll know what's coming for you," with one last shove, I let him go and walked towards Olivia.
"You will pay for this Samantha Flynn!" I didn't look back at him but I was sure he scurried away when I heard retreating footsteps behind me. Olivia, on the other hand, didn't take her eyes off of me as she continued staring at me until I was standing beside her. She looked agape and was about to say something but no words came out.
"Let's get going?" I asked slowly.
"H-How did you do that?"
"I, um, like to watch... random fight scenes in Youtube? Yeah that," I replied uncertainly. She didn't spoke up and frowned while studying my face. After a minute, she slowly raised her hand horizontally near my face where she could feel my breath. It looked like she was covering the lower half of my face but not actually touching it.
"W-What are you doing?"
She quickly pulled her hand back and took a step back, "I-It's really you!"
I frowned in confusion, "What do you mean?"
She didn't answer and looked away, "Come on let's go," she said before walking away. Shrugging my shoulders, I followed and caught up beside her. She didn't bother looking at me, her eyes trained up ahead while she remained silent.
"Um, can I ask you something?"
"Yeah,"
"Last night...why did you call me Scarlett?" She stopped in her tracks then faced me with a blank expression.
"Oh that, well I heard my dad called someone Scarlett, maybe one of our bodyguards inside, then last night you were acting like our bodyguard so that's why. Also the name has a nice ring to it, I like it." I nodded slowly, so her parents didn't tell her. I wanted to come clean but I guess I had to wait a little longer.
"Your real name is Samantha...right?"
My brows furrowed, unsure of what she meant, "Y-Yeah, ofcourse!" She smiled but I sensed something behind that smile. It was unnerving.

For the past week, Olivia has been acting weird like I could sense that she was keeping a close tab on me maybe because she was starting to doubt who I was. She had left Elle alone and spent her vacant time with Sara and me, making it easier for her to watch me. Whatever she was doing, I wasn't on edge though and I was letting her be. The only thing that bugged was how she easily left Elle alone. Since she broke up with Brad, the three of them stopped hanging out.
"Hey Samantha, you're not listening again," Olivia's voice rung out through my head, shifting my attention to her.
"What?"
"I asked where Sara is, what were you looking by the way?"
"I just feel bad for Elle, I mean how could you leave her just like that? Look at her," I motioned to Elle's direction who was sitting silently alone at their usual table. She looked to where I was motioning, she just shrugged and continued what she was doing. Having enough of her attitude, I stood up and walked towards Elle.
I slid opposite her seat and cleared my throat. Elle looked up and was surprised to see me smiling at her.
"S-Samantha what are you doing here?"
"I'm here to invite you to come join us in our table," I replied casually.
"I don't need your pity Sam so why don't you go back to Olivia!"
Oh bitchy! "Look, what Olivia did was unacceptable and I get that your mad right now but that doesn't mean that you have to be alone, I'm here asking you as a friend."
Her expression softened while fidgeting her fingers. "Thanks Sam for doing this but I just want to be alone right now, away from Olivia."
"I understand..." I said nodding at the same time, "...but if you ever feel like wanting a new friend, you can find one in me." She smiled and I returned the same gesture before standing up and walking back to Olivia.
"What?" Her scowling face eyed me curiously before ignoring my question. Shaking my head, I sat down and was about to continue my reading when Sara's voice stopped me.
"Hey bitches," she greeted while dragging a chair to sit on beside me.
I raised my eyebrow questioningly, "Bitches?" She seemed to be in a good mood considering Olivia was here.
"Yeah?"
I snorted, "You're kidding! The only bitch here is Olivia."
"Hey you," Olivia hissed pinching my arm. I howled in pain while they laughed.
"Ugh, you pinched like a bitch!"
"That's what you get when you messed with a bitch," Olivia retorted.
Rubbing my arm, I looked at Sara, "You seem in a good mood."
"Yeah, I finally finished sorting the documents the principal had given me so I can hang out with you during my vacant for the rest of the week," she giggled excitedly.
"That's great! Honestly, I kind of miss hanging out with you." Olivia groaned at my response which made both Sara and I turn to look at her. She was looking down at her notepad, writing something on it.
"Hmmm, how to answer this?" she mumbled. We ignored her and continued chatting in low voices so we couldn't disturb her.

The night came fast, with not much to do, I lay down comfortably on my bed, looking blankly at the ceiling with Oreo snuggled beside me. I was about to drift off to sleep when my phone pinged on the nightstand.
Grabbing it, I unlocked the screen and read the message. Surprisingly, it was Olivia who texted me.
'Hey!'
I frowned while typing for a reply, 'Hey?'
After few seconds, she replied, 'What u doin' tonight?'
'About to take a nap'
'I know this is sudden but could u come to the haus tonight?'
I sat upright, unsure if I read her message right, 'Why?'
'I have something to ask and I want to ask it personally!'
'Ok, I'll be there'
Dragging myself out of the bed, I quickly rummaged my closet and pulled out a white dress shirt and a black tight jeans. Slipping the clothes on my body, I then watched myself on the mirror. Satisfied with my look, I walked to the nightstand and grabbed the binoculars. I headed to the window and looked through the binoculars, surveying the front area of Olivia's house. I felt relief that everything was calm, there were still bodyguards lurking in front.
After scanning outside her house, I looked to her bedroom's window where I could see two silhouettes standing face to face behind the curtain. I was certain that one of those two silhouettes was Olivia but I wasn't sure who she was talking to.
I took my time watching them through my binoculars as I was planning to go there after 10 minutes. After waiting, I made my way out of the house and jogged towards her house. When the bodyguards guarding the gate spotted me, they nodded and the gate slid sideward. I strided through the front yard and finally reached the door. Ringing the doorbell twice, Olivia's smiling face greeted me.
"Hey," I greeted with a smile.
"Hey, come on in," she said stepping aside to let me through.
"So you have something to say?" I asked as soon as we were standing in the living room. Her gaze averted mine and she sheepishly rubbed her palms together. I could tell she was nervous and it made me uneasy.
"I-I have something to show you."
"What is it?" I watched her anxiously as she couldn't look me in the eyes.
"It's in my room, come with me." She headed to the stairs and motioned for me to follow so I did. Every step I took made my heart pound harder against my chest. I had no idea what she was going to show to me and I didn't like it. Did something happen her that I didn't know?
She opened the door to her bedroom and she stepped inside. I followed her and scanned the room. Nothing was out of the ordinary, it was still the same last time I checked. I walked further beside her queen-size bed and examined the area.
"What is it that you want to show me?"
"Nothing,"
Raising my brow, I turned around and found Olivia pointing a tranq gun at me. "What are you doing? That's not a nice toy to play with."
"I know but I'm curious how this works."
"If you fire that gun Olivia, I swear I wo- Ow!" I wasn't able to finish what I was about to say when I felt a prickling sensation on my right thigh. Pulling out the sticking dart, I immediately threw it to the side. I was able to take a few steps but I gritted my teeth in anger when my knees buckled on their own. My vision was starting to blur and the energy instantly drained out of my body. But before my body hit the floor, I felt Olivia's arms wrapped around me and thinking how it felt good to feel her warmth, this might not be a bad idea after all, I thought, before welcoming the darkness.

"Hey," I looked up from my trance and saw Sara adjusting her glasses, hesitation was written in her face. Biting my lower lip, I looked down unable to look at her after what I did last night. I totally forgot to apologize to her this morning. Great!
