Taylor's POV
I wake up in Travis' arms. My safe place.
I don't really remember all that happened last night
He is holding me very tightly but I feel so safe
I run my fingers along his jaw, and he looks down at me. I didn't know he was awake
"Good morning Tay" he says softly and rubs my back
"Morning" I say grinning at him
"How much sleep did you get? You look really tired" I say confused
"Enough" he replies but I don't believe him
"After I get everything ready I'm going to get in a flight to my moms if you want to come" I say hopefully
"I was planning on it" he says and grins at me
It's probably not ideal for two best friends to cuddle in bed together but we are different. This is us.
After we eventually get out of bed and get all of my stuff ready we are finally on our way to my mom's house.
Travis is driving, of course, and I am in the passenger seat on our way to my moms from the airport
"You know I'm really thankful for you right?" I ask looking over at him
"I know Tay" he says in a gentle voice and continues driving
Once he parks I already see my mom running over to me with a huge smile plastered across her face
"Hi mom" I say smiling as I get out of the car
"Hi baby" she laughs and hugs me like she always does
"Hi Andrea" Travis says as he walks over with all of my bags
My mom pulls away and pulls him into a big hug
She has always loved him
"How are you?" She asks him as they pull away
"I'm good" he smiles at her
"Well let's go set you up in your old room" she says and we walk into the house
I get this whiff of nostalgia every time I walk into this house
All the memories of me and Travis playing hide and seek, tag, our movie nights, and so much more.
"You okay Tay?" Travis' voice pulls me out of my thoughts and he puts his hand on my arm
"Of course. It's just weird being back here even though it's not the first time" I respond and turn to look at him
"I know. I felt the same way" he says and we walk upstairs into my childhood room
My mom goes downstairs and me and Travis put all of my stuff away
We sometimes brush arms and randomly hug and I guess I've never really realized it but there is always this heat everytime we make contact with each other
"I am making lunch right now if you are hungry" my mom says as me and Travis walk back downstairs into the kitchen and take a seat at the island
"I could always eat" Travis says and I giggle, he looks over at me and smiles
"Oh I know. I used to have to make double every meal just for you when you were kids" my mom laughs and we both join in
After my mom is finished making lunch we all sit down and eat. Every once in a while I see Travis yawn and he is barley keeping his eyes open
"You okay Trav" I ask as I look over worried
"Yeah just a little tired" he admits and I knew he didn't get enough sleep
"Why don't you go take a nap?" I ask and he quickly shakes his head at that
"No I'm okay" he brushes it off and continues talking to my mom
"Why don't we go watch something?" My mom suggests and Travis looks at me, I nod
After we finally agree on a movie me and Travis are on one side of the couch and my mom is in her chair
This chair is hers. No one else is allowed to sit in it. It had always been her chair.
"Hey Taylor come here for a sec" my mom says after a little bit of watching the movie
Travis looks at me with a questionable look and I give him the same back, confused on what my mom wants to talk about with me alone and not with Travis
After we get into the hallway she looks at me seriously
"Do you have feelings for Travis?" She asks and this question completely catches me off guard
"What no!" I react very quickly and she just give me the mom stare
"I mean I don't know. I haven't really thought about it" I admit after a few moments of silence
"I know you do" she says very confidently "And he does too"
I laugh thinking she is joking but she does not laugh with me
"Mom" I say in a you are going crazy type of way
"Taylor the way he looks at you isn't just a best friend type of look" she says in a softer voice now
It's making me think
Anytime I ever have the slightest inconvenience I run to him.
Anytime I feel uncomfortable or self conscious he is always there.
He always talks to me or holds me whenever I need it.
Maybe I have been in denial this whole time. Maybe all these years that I have been looking for the right person, he has been right here all along.
"Okay I do" I finally admit and she lets out a relieved sigh
"I know. You know you have to tell him at some point right?" She asks like it's obvious
"I mean I guess but it doesn't have to be right away" I say and she nods understanding the craziness I have experienced these past few years
"Can we just go back in there and I will think about it?" I ask
"Yes"
I let out a relieved sigh and we walk back into the living room
As I walk back to sit down I see Travis lying down and in a deep sleep
I glance at my mom and she laughs
I don't want to wake him up because obviously he is tired so I just make myself small and sit in the corner by his head
My heart melts as I feel his hands reach up for mine and tuck them into his chest
I look over to see my mom smiling at me, I look down at him and blush.
"Don't leave" he says in his sleepy voice that makes the hairs on my neck stand up
"Oh trav I'm not going anywhere" I say and lean down to kiss his head
I lift his head up and move him to my lap as I stroke his head with my hands
I just stare at him and I don't care that my mom is staring at us anymore.
Eventually I look over at my mom and she isn't there. She must've left at some point but I never realized it.
I've just been staring at Travis the whole time.
"I love you Travis" I say softly and move his hair to kiss his forehead
I close my eyes and lean my head back.
He is mine and it took me too long to realize it.
