"Darling, once your wife and daughter are dead, you have to marry me right away!"
"Relax, I've been dying to get rid of that old hag for years. She's nothing like you—you're young, gorgeous, and actually exciting! And my worthless daughter? If my wife hadn't interfered back then, I'd have pawned her off years ago!"
"Our poor boy drew the short straw—kidney failure at his age. But at least your wife and daughter are perfect donor matches! If we play this smart, no one will suspect a thing, right? Her family won't cause trouble?"
"That bitch doesn't have any family! She's a damn orphan! We just need to keep our mouths shut and we're home free."
The hospital's giant screen broadcast their conversation in terrifying HD clarity.
The crowd erupted. The way people looked at my father and Eden shifted instantly—curiosity twisting into pure revulsion.
"What kind of monster kills his own family for his bastard kid?"
"That scheming whore makes me sick! They're both gutter trash. Don't they believe in karma?"
"String them up! Animals like that don't deserve to breathe!"
The mob's fury crashed over them like a tsunami. My father and Eden stood paralyzed, faces bloodless, eyes wild with panic.
I was seething too—but mostly stunned. How had Uncle gotten hotel footage of their private conversation? If the cops hadn't been holding the crowd back, those two would've been torn apart on the spot.
While Uncle arranged Mom's transfer, he took me to the police station. Rattled by the damning video, Dad and Eden didn't dare press assault charges against Uncle. They were too busy pissing themselves to cause trouble.
Walking out, I clenched my fists in frustration. Surveillance footage wasn't enough for a conviction. Sensing my tension, Uncle mussed my hair. His voice dropped to a dangerous murmur: "I've got more. Enough to put them away right now."
I blinked. "Then why didn't—"
"Because prison's too good for them." His smile didn't reach his eyes. "After what they did to you and your mother?"
Ice shot down my spine. I grabbed his arm. "Uncle, no! You can't—they're not worth life in prison!"
