It was the weekend, and for once, I didn't have work looming over me. Just as I was about to step out for some fresh air—anything to shake off the suffocating loneliness—my best friend Tiffany Blanchet called.
"Hey, Daphne," she said, her voice bright. "You look like you could use a girls' day. Wanna come out and ditch the gloom?"
Honestly, I was already sold. Following the address she texted me, I arrived in no time.
Tiffany grinned when she saw me. "God, it's been ages. What's with the long face?"
Like she even had to ask. Ever since Zachary left for his business trip, I'd been a wreck. Only last night had I managed to catch a breath—but who could possibly understand how hollow I felt without him?
"You know exactly why," I muttered. "Zachary's been gone for weeks. No… relief. Frankly, it's a miracle I'm not worse."
Tiffany and I had always been the kind of friends who shared everything.
Her eyes lit up. "Then let me take you somewhere fun. Trust me, it'll fix that mood of yours."
I was instantly intrigued. I'd been dying for a distraction.
Besides, Zachary had told me before—if the loneliness got unbearable, I could always book a spa day. As long as I didn't cross any lines, he wouldn't mind.
Tiffany dragged me into this sleek, high-end wellness club. Leaning in, she whispered, "The masseurs here? Unreal skills. You'll leave feeling like a whole new woman."
The way she said it sent a thrill through me. I was more than ready.
After checking me in, Tiffany nudged me toward a private room. "Just relax and enjoy yourself, okay?"
With a teasing push, she sent me inside.
The room was dim, softly lit, and the masseur wore a mask—but something about him felt familiar.
I reached up to pull it off, but he caught my wrist.
"Madam," he said smoothly, "it's policy. Guests can't see our faces."
But that voice—I knew it.
"Chase…?" My stomach dropped. "Is that you?"
"Sorry, madam. You must have me confused with someone else."
"No, I know it's you." The second the words left my mouth, his hand settled on my hip.
"Madam," he murmured, "you're here to relax. Let me take care of you."
His touch was electric, sending shivers straight through me. A soft gasp escaped before I could stop it.
I hadn't expected… this kind of pleasure.
"Don't tense up," he coaxed, gently easing my legs apart.
His fingers worked magic, teasing every nerve—until they drifted lower.
I jerked away. "No!"
"Madam," he said, amused, "you came here to unwind. Why stop now?"
"You're my daughter's boyfriend! How dare you—"
"Here, you're just my client."
I wasn't having it. Snatching his mask off, I glared.
"Chase. I knew it was you."
He smirked. "Madam… the truth is, I've always wanted you. Especially after last night—"
"Stop. Just stop."
This was insane.
Last night, he'd been all over Chloe. Now he was claiming this?
"From the first time I saw you," Chase murmured, "I was in love."
"Enough. Quit this job, find something decent, and I'll pretend today never happened. Chloe won't hear a word."
No way was I letting my daughter stay with a man like him.
Before I could move, Chase pressed closer. "Madam, listen—"
"I love you. I'll break up with Chloe for you."
His gaze burned into me, my pulse racing under his touch.
"Chase, don't… How could you do this to her?"
