That kiss sent lightning through every nerve in my body—nothing in my twenty-something years had ever come close.
Even when he pulled away, my head was still spinning.
His smirk told me he knew exactly what he'd done. "See? You were begging for my attention."
"I—I just wasn't expecting it!"
Who the hell kisses someone out of nowhere? I should've slapped him.
"Are you ready now?"
"Obviously."
The second the words left my mouth, his hands were on my face, his lips on mine again.
And damn, he was good. By the second kiss, I was melting—painfully aware of the heat building between us.
What happened next? Let's just say it was inevitable.
When I woke up, dark eyes watched me, my fingers still tracing the hard lines of his abs.
"Done staring?"
Mortified, I jerked my hand back and lunged for my clothes.
As I dressed, flashes of last night's recklessness flickered through my mind. Regret? Shockingly, none.
The rumors hadn't lied.
"Not even leaving your number? Just gonna ghost me like last night never happened?"
After a beat, I snatched his phone and punched in my WhatsApp.
Something told me I'd be seeing him again sooner than planned.
"I'll catch you later. Last night was... fun."
My face burned as I bolted.
That man had made me forget why I was even there in the first place.
Back home, I stepped into the shower just as Mom's voice drifted through the door—soft, intimate—talking to my soon-to-be stepfather.
"I don't know when Emily will come around. I never thought she'd lie to me like this."
Mom leaned into him, her pale skin stark against his.
His fingers trailed lazily through her hair. "Don't stress. Kids resist change. As long as you trust me."
"I get why she's upset with you, but why would she make up those things about my son?"
My stomach twisted. She thought I'd fabricated everything.
"I'll talk to her. She's young—she'll understand eventually."
I shut my door quietly, heart sinking.
She didn't believe me. She believed him.
Last night hadn't been some twisted plot to smear him—just a reckless mistake. But he'd spun it so well, painting me as the liar.
Only when their voices faded into their room did I dare move.
Then the sounds started—low groans, breathy gasps—freezing me in place.
"You're incredible. I could never leave you."
"Then why delay the wedding? Is it because of Emily?"
My breath hitched. They weren't married yet?
A strange warmth flickered in my chest. Maybe she still cared.
"Yes. I raised her. I want her to accept this first."
"Ah—don't stop. You're so good."
I stood there, emotions churning.
I'd been wrong. She hadn't chosen him over me.
The noises grew louder. Face burning, I fled.
Three days later, Mom arranged a "family bonding" dinner.
Reluctantly, I went—only to spot him at the restaurant, laughing with my stepfather like they shared a secret.
Rage exploded in my chest. I stormed over.
"You two planned this, didn't you?!"
The escort I'd "mistaken" and my stepfather knew each other. This was a setup.
They were after Mom's money—and I was the pawn.
How could I have been so stupid?
Their faces paled. Clearly, they hadn't expected me to figure it out this fast.
"Sweetheart! What a coincidence!"
I scoffed. "Cut the crap. How long have you been scamming us?"
"I'm telling Mom everything!"
Their exchanged glances said it all—this was a con.
"Explain it to her," my stepfather muttered. "It's just a misunderstanding."
The escort grabbed my wrist, slamming me against the wall.
"Sweetheart, you've got it all wrong."
His thigh pressed between mine, his body trapping me. Heat radiated off him as his lips brushed my collarbone.
"That night, you wanted it."
"Now stay still... unless you want me to take you right here."
